i developed a high pitched whistle on acceleration tonight after racing a tuned to the hilt focus RS (and won by a fair bit hehe) im hoping itl be gone by morning when its cooled and its also idling a little high, anyone slightly more mechanical than me out there know what it may be ?? i did blank off the PCV the other day but had no problems until now .......................HELP :(

Mine has had a high pitched whistle between 4500 and redline since I bluefinned it. I thought it was normal. Do you think not kaz?

Damn you should hear mine whistle & its only a TDI, mines turbo related & its fairly common thing on turbo's overall I believe after a while & if you've been hammering it.

Might be a loose pipe but if you've got full power still seems unlikely its an air leak, any noticeable loss of power at all?

wow thanks for the reply guys
no theres no air leak and its at full power deffo NHN, its idling from 9000 to 14000 up and down and a little jerky so iv connected back up again and its still doing it now and still full power :sos:, id like to keep the blank on as its reccomended by a few guys on vagoc and doesnt affect it ''aparently'' so im unsure what the idling problem is now 'sigh' ....the engine warning light was on too but reset the ecu and thats off now, i wanna get to the bottom of the idling problem before blanking the PCV again
any ideas kaz ? u seem knowledged up lol thanks :sob:
Oh and the whistles gone now too but i hope it wasnt serious

Mine whistles now but when i changed the IMF flap over, a seal between the egr and imf pinched and let air it. It whistled a lot louder.

But normal turbos do whistle - mine was just a lot louder with the air leak and really juddery!

But after myt remap, the turbo did sound different - a higher pitch whistle!

When the turbo is running at full power / temp for multiple runs I'd guess there could be a few things that may happen:

1) Audi may have built in a fail safe to protect the car under certain parameters which causes the car to behave differently when it reaches certain temps / revs (you haven't taken it too far beyond 7200 I hope!)

2) You have the startings of a boost leak which is accentuated under very high boost / temperatures. Once you car cools, the leak point returns to 'normal' (of sorts), and if the leak point gets bigger, so will the problem

ALWAYS remember to warm the engine up considerably (around 12 minutes), and then COOL the turbo down (ie don't just switch off the engine after a rag - let the oil circulate round the system to cool things down a bit) by driving the car at normal rev ranges for 3-5 minutes after a 'heavy' session.

I take it the car is throwing no DTC's?

ur right mitch haha why on earth i said 9000 to 14000 is beyond me haha of course i meant 900 to 1400 silly Dan :keule:altho a busa engine would be great haha my zx10r would go 14000 it did today anyways :salute:

theres no DTC's mate but iv found the idling problem i took the spacer out of the forge DV and it lowered it a little and it split the pipe closest to the fan its connected now and goes great again the whistle stopped by itelf so i think one of your options was right warren
big air leak, possibly why a porshe boxter just kept up with me gggrrrr tarty ba*tard lol
iv redirected the actuator now so no pipes are close to the fan i was under the bonnet in the dark the other night so missed that split pipe somehow.....big sigh of relief

Well done mate, it's always horrible searching for boost leaks on turbo's as in the back of your mind you are always hoping its not the tubby thats on the way out!!

A SEAT dealer wanted to replace a turbo on my last LCR (18 months old, 14,000 miles). Quoted an estimate of £3,700 for the job when they called to tell me their diagnosis of my boost spike issue (not warranty covered as car was modified). I disputed it, had it towed to an independent specialist, and after 10 minutes Vince at Stealth Racing noted the DV had a crease leak in one of the hoses that the dealer had failed to find in 3 days. Bunged him £25 in beer money and job was a good'un.

jesus ! thats shocking mate !
but ur right i kinda knew the tub wouldnt be on the way out its only 2 years old lol but cant believe i never seen that cut pipe maybe it was just split underneath to begin with ? yeah i think that was it haha not my eye sight
im still in shock with your SEAT dealer story bud that is honestly scary !!!!
i have a slightly scary seat story my friends ibeza FR diesal keeps up with the S3 THATS frightening but hes part exing it this week haha no more embarrassing races :whistle2: ****** light little fast thing !!!!

hi there guys was wondering if this was normal.....say im driving in 2nd gear and let go the accellarator pedal (as you do) to change to 3rd gear i get a whistle like noise only its like a juddering whistle a bit hard to explain....also a heard the same sound from a golf which went past me yesterday and that was a 58 plate. Not very loud but loud enuf.

My car A3 2.0 TDI SPORT 2006

hmm never heard of that mate mind you most diesals do whistle on a lot and go for 300,000 miles being vag haha but couldnt say for sure buddy soorrreeee:rolleyes:

Does it sound like a dump valve but a lot lower?

I'm pretty sure thats normal as mine does it.

Mine does it most when you accelerate to when the turbo just kicks in and you can feel the tourqe just kicking in and then lift off, it makes that noise more. im pretty sure this is normal.

My turbo now whistles under heavy acceleration since the giac, it's nothing to worry about. Is your car stock dan?

you guys drive ya tdi's in 3rd gear at around 40-50 and let go the gas pedal instantly and you should hear it.

My wife had a Revo'd Ibiza TDi FR running 168bhp. Went like stink, just didn't stop well (I warped her discs really badly!). Needed better suspension, brakes, and clutch.

my whistles gone now guys it was just the night i raced a tuned up RS and took mine to the max up to ??? then eased off as my work was done haha he was nower to be seen :arco: but it was just as the torque was kicking in yeah then i discoverd the sliced PCV to actuator pipe after resetting my ECU to get rid of the engine managment light....an eventful cuple opf days haha
but those ibeza's are stupid fast arent they lol my mate had mapped it to the hilt himself n i couldnt do a thing with it in a straight line, other mate has a cupra one mapped and it coasts past another mates R32 haha their a worry those little things !!

Dan. 165mph on a pubic road? Are you mad, stupid or both??

I don't think you'd stop in time for someone crossing the road :(

Please consider your actions

Where I agree that the speed mentioned is somewhat stupid & idiotic tbh, I dont think any of us can start criticising another member for speeds, I hazard a guess we all break speed limits daily which if we're honest wouldnt stop in time for someone crossing also so kinda kettle black springs to mind.

Ok, So your agreeing with me then??

The only critisizm I made was that doing 165mph was mad and stupid and you agree with me (see above)

We can both the black pots together then :friends:

Another point worth noting:

Its not the best idea to start bragging how fast you went last night in Alnwick wiv yer mates, theres probably some low life grass on here waiting to let the coppers know what your up to.

Just a bit of friendly advice

That's shocking - to think another enthusiast on a car forum would raise this to the police without speaking to the original poster first.... that's ****** in my opinion!
I'm not saying I condone that sort of thing, but I guess in these sort of places you'd like to think you're with like minded people who would confront you directly rather than call the police... :(

Yeah I'd agree, why do people have to be so ****** huh, if they had problem with there speeding they should of told them directly, but that Golf totally owned that RS4, does this start the old S3/RS4 row on a whole new footing, lol
