    Sticking alloys on the SE VS the Sline

    Hi guys and gals

    I am about to buy a white A3 on which I plan to stick some 17" black alloys. Just wondering if it is going to cost any different to stick it on the SE compared to the Sline?

    It seems silly for me to get the sline when I plan to change the wheels anyway - unless for some reason it will need extras to get the wheels on the SE (I can't see why it would, but then again I am no experienced mechanic).

    Also, the SE comes with manual air con, is that correct? Basically air blowers that you have on any old car... the only difference for the electic is that t shuts on or off at certain temperatures - correct?

    Fitting wheels to the SE is no different to the S-Line. The SE sits quite high, unlike the S-Line which is relatively low from the factory, so you may need to lower it for it to look as good.

    As for air con vs climate - on manual air con, you control the heat and level of blower. On climate you set a temperature and the climate decides how much air it needs and how hot/cold. Generally you need to fiddle more with manual air con to keep the car at a comfortable temperature.

    Plus with the S-line you get the nicer interior trim, bumpers and spoiler... much better starting point really

    my se came with fishscale aluminium trim.All depends what is spec'd on purchase

    in regards to the suspension, yes a se sits about 20mm ish higher than a sline. However, a 100 quid set of eibach springs will sort this out and also dramatically improve the ride quality also.

    Same here - I spec'd the aluminium trim from new and it was a zero cost option, so there's likely to be a few privately-purchased A3s with it.

    I also retrofitted 17" Star alloys to my SE and it doesn't look high at all - again, 17s were an option on the SE from new and have the same rolling radius as the 16s. They just appear to fill the arches more.

    Finally, just to note that all SEs from launch came with climate control (i.e. auto AC) as standard. Manual aircon was only available on base models.

    Ah, so does wood come as standard but you can spec it different? Thats not so bad then

    Are you talking about the 350 wooden inlay option? I am not a fan of wood in a car tbh!

    The sline is very tempting, I like the seats and leather trim. Is there a website that shows you the body differenece between the SE and Sline? The brochure is rubbish for showing you things, the S3 is plastered all over it and I can't afford that!!

    If the spoiler and skirts are noticably different, I would consider the upgrade!

    Also, just out of interest, I am getting an automatic - do you think petrol or diesel would be cheaper to run in greater London? I drive in towns for about an hour a day...

    Wooden trim used to be standard on the SE but not any more. You now get Granite, Umbra or Opal according to the interior colour specified. You can also specify Walnut brown wood but it costs an extra 350. None of the aluminiums or Piano black are available on the SE.

    On the Sport the standard is Medial (fishscale) aluminium and the only other option is Walnut brown wood for 175.

    On the S-line and S3 the standard is now Matt-brushed aluminium with Piano black an option at no charge. The S3 also has the option of Fine grain birch wood in grey, again for no charge.

    17's look lost inside A3 arches - at least 18" but if you put it on an SE it will look like a monster truck!

    the 17s are ok, but i would also say go for the 18's. i have the 17 5-star spoke and i am getting the 18 rs6 alloys n fitting the eibach pro's

    The SE comes with full climate control (dual zone) - at least mine did - '54 (MY05)

    It used to but since Audi UK reduced the spec of the SE to suit the fleet market and lowered the price by 1350 it now comes with manual air-con and the dual-zone climate control is a option at 365.

    A lot of the options that were included in the SE spec are no longer included by are available as options.The SE spec now only includes the following extra to the Standard:

    16x6.5J 6-spoke alloy wheels with 205/55 tyres
    Front fog lights
    4-spoke leather multi-function steering wheel
    Front centre armrest
    Driver's Information System.

    When I ordered my existing Sportback in SE spec I added some 2830 worth of extras. On the one I have just ordered I have added 4620 worth of extras, but the basic price is lower. Both cars will be almost the same spec apart from my existing one has xenon headlights and the new one will have adaptive xenon headlights.

    That's interesting David - I recall just before the facelift that the SE gained 17" wheels and foglights as standard. It looks like post-facelift, those items have gone back on the options list again.

    my sport has the black piano trim, its kinda easly scratched. TBH, I'd thought all A3s came with the dual zone climate control!!! Audi are cheapskates making it an option LOL

    All except the Standard and now the SE do. These two models come with Manual Air-Con. When Audi decided not to include the Dual-zone climate control and a few others items as standatd fitting on the SE they also reduced the price by 1350 which is approximately the value of the options removed. Harldy cheapskates as you put it!

    The SE and the Sport used to be the same price. Now the Sport is 1445 more than the SE. Just a change in marketing to suit the fleet market.
