Hi Guys, im just after a bit of advice really.

Ive now done around 22k miles in my S3, and it due for another oil change in around 400 miles.
I had my first oil change at around 11k, but the 1st full service is due in another 8k miles.. so around 30k.
Basically my local dealer charged me around £250 or the oil change!!!, and im reluctant to fork this much out again, especially as i will need a full service in 8k miles and the oil will probably be changed again anyway.
What i was thinking was buy the oil and filter, i assume its Castrol Edge 5w 30 fully synthetic? doesnt actually say for the S3 in my manual, just all the other A3 variants!! and getting a friend of the family, who owns a garage, to do the oil change for me. One worry is will they be able to reset the service light/intervals, or does this have to be done by audi?

I will obviously call my local dealer and see what the best price they will give me is, and that im not happy to pay £250.
Just wondering what you would do?

Cheers!

Go to a trusted independent mate.
AmD, Regal, Votex, Awesome - anywhere good that isn't a main dealer basically. Better quality, lower price, no impact on warranty, might reduce value of your car by a couple of hundred quid if you trade in with a dealer but your car will get serviced properly.
Search around on here - plenty of threads on here about this.

I would do as you are suggesting, or at least visit an independent dealer who will do it far cheaper and reset your warning code.

Castrol Edge 5w-30 Longlife Fully Synthetic oil if you are on the extended service plans (I am on this but my first service came up at 10.5k instead of the supposed 20k).

At dealers you pay the premium as they offer you a posh coffee and a magazine to read while they are waiting. First service at Reading Audi was £354 for me, and then when I said I don't have to pay I have a fixed term maintenance plan they kicked off at me for not telling them in advance (get the feeling the service may have been limited standard if they had have known?!?!?!?!). UK Audi dealers - rubbish.

Oil change on mine (57plate S3) was £160 at Tyneside AUDI.
£250 is a **** take.

Im guessing there arent national rates for AUDI dealers.?

Fortunately, Ive been lucky with my dealer. There have been pretty good as far as servicing and warranty issues go.

The effect on resale is difficult to determine.
Some want to see a dealer stamp, some dont care as long as its a stamp from a reputable specialist.
Enthusiasts wont be too bothered about dealer stamps, particularly if its a modified car.
Depends how important resale versus good service is to you personaly and how long you intend to keep the car.

As long as the price difference doesnt run into £100s, and its a simple job (ie Oil change) Im sticking with AUDI for now for my own reasons.

Good luck.

cheers
Paul

1st oil service for me was around £130ish at around 12000 miles, and 1st inspection service was £110 at around 19000 miles. Sounds like your being shafted mate.

Reading Audi are reputed to be one of the most expensive in the UK. Wouldn't go there again even to use their toilets.
