Scuffed alloys after new tyres

Just washed my car after getting new tyres on monday, was horrified when I cleaned my alloys. Somehow they have managed to scuff them pretty much all over

Anyone experience this before? what's the best way to go about going back to the garage? Shame I didn't check them at the garage, i'm really gutted, can see them saying it could of happened after they put them on...

Definitely not going back to Protyre in Heyford.... last time I went they messed up the balancing and now....

Well you named and shamed. l would o and see what they say. At the very least ask them to have the tech look and see what damage hes done.

Gutted for you mate. You will have great difficulty in proving it was their fault!
Even if you'd checked whilst still there, they would have denied it. The only way is to go over the wheels with the fitter prior to having the tyres on and get them to sign there is no damage. Unless you have a friend who fits tyres...which I do, it's so hard to trust anyone these days, no pride in their work!!

That's some pretty terrible tyre fitting. I agree with the other comments though that's it's very hard to get the tyre monkeys to agree it's their fault. Definitely worth complaining though, as they may at least contribute towards a refurb.

yea figured as much, going to give them a ring tomorrow, guessing they will deny it and I'll end up paying for a refurb

I had a similar experience with a tyre fitter with my old car. They totally ****** the wheels then denied that it was them. I never got any money out of them

looks like the foot has rubbed the rim in the 1st pic, we have a plastic 'sacrificial' foot on our machine to reduce potential damage. Works fine unless the laquor is already flaking.

Not sure what could have cause damage in 2nd pic, its very high up the spoke.

Some alloys are a nightmare to do nowadays, requiring several people and bars. TBH, its so hard to some wheels nowadays I wont do anything less that 45 profile & nothing over 17". Just worth the hassle.

I'd go back and complain for sure.

Go and confront them first, if they are rude or tell you to go elsewhere then casually walk away.

I wonder how much the garages windows cost in comparison to a new wheel.

Had the same thing, I've used my fitter for years now though. They let a trainee on it and he used a tool which slipped, I know he didn't mean it but it is not good enough.

Next move; to try event tyres, no one has a bad thing to say about them yet. Best to just move on, if you must simply call them and talk to the manager.

I used Event tyres just to see what they were like and was a little worried when a massive van turned up and a 5ft 17 year old chav jumped out! However I took it all back when he fitted me 2 x 235/35/19's on my beetle in about 20 mins. He had some modern looking equipment and lots of smooth plastic tools. I watched him fit the tyre and he made it look like childs play for a size that notoriously difficult to fit.

Cant recommend them highly enough, so much so my Auntie used them to fit 2 new rears on her Boxster and she was that happy she sent them a letter thanking them saying how much better they were than the Porsche dealer!

It's not rocket science.

You need the right equipment, and trained staff that actually give a ****.

I always used Tyres Northampton and have found them very good. This was backed up in Evo this month - the guys said it was the only place he'd take his Zonda - if it's good enough for a £300,000 supercar, it's good enough for me.

If these mickey mouse places aren't confident they can fit the tyres without ******* the wheels up, they should say so before they make a mess.

This happen to me - the twats screwed up 3 of my wheels - brand new kerb free RS4s.

They didnt give any money back but he gave my unc a discount off the tyres, gave me the three puntures free and this worked out as getting 3 wheels refurbed....

A right b!tch - esp if your wheels were mint (as mine were - well 3 were!).

go back and see what they can do - but they'll prob jsut say you done it on a kerb - i spotted mine when he put the wheels on..

i always point out the wheels were scuff free before they start !

that way it's their fault if anything happens. I use C&S tyres is boro.
He's a motorbike and alloy specialist. All it takes is time and care.

If you getting them refurbed you will need to get all four done. Ronal arent allowed to release the colour code for the RS6 style 5 arm wheel , so refurbs are very hard to colour match correctly. Or if its two wheels get them refurbed and fitted on one side.

I had my rear tyres done today and now have some nice scratches / scrapes on my previously pristine alloys.

I didn't check well enough before I signed the bill, I called the company and the fitter came back and denied he had done the damage. Claimed it was impossible with is machine as it has a plastic guide to prevent it.

I'm still negotiating with them, waiting to hear from the boss.

It was a well known mobile fitting company mentioned in this thread and I have used them before five times without issue.

Not impressed. Anybody know if the 'home repair' kits you can get are any good? The damage is pretty small and not very deep so was wondering if something like :

I've had pretty good experiences with chips away, they charge around £50 per alloy for repairing kerbing/scratches. Have them coming tomorrow to sort out the mess the tyre fitters made...

I've fixed up small scratches before (on my old 106 gti) by just rubbing down the lacquer then spraying a few layers of it over the top, not sure I'd want to do that on my A3 tho ;p

i've go tot have two new tyres on my fronts soon - dredding it. I always make apoint of pointing out that the wheels are mint and that i wont accept damage being repaired - new wheels only will be accepted and they are about £350 each i think from audi. If they won't accept that then i walk away and go somewhere else.

Plus i always check and double check before leaving the premises afterwards. I've used event tyres before and last time they didn't do a bad job, but they did scratch theinside of the wheel getting the old balancing weights off

Your always best to point out the wheels are perfect before they start. The jaws that hold the wheel on the machine can leave marks too. Sometimes its impossible to clamp the back rim due to the tyre forcing its way back towards it so you need to use the jaws that push out. Was it sticky weights they removed?

Fitted a tyre to a fiesta yesterday - his spring had snapped and rubbed away the inner sidewall dangerously thin!! To make things worse, he caught the side of his car on the wall driving into the workshop!!! Not his week I guess..

If my experience is anything to go by don't use Event. I used them five times without issue and now they have messed up my wheels and refuse to admit liability.

So my bill for new tyres has now gone up by £90 and I end up with re-furbed alloys.

I even emailled the directors of the company but they are not interested. I can't prove they did it so I don't really have a leg to stand on.

I really got the impression that they care and actually try to please their customers but it seems when things go wrong they just turn a blind eye.

...I appear to have been lucky - small local outlet have fitted 6 tyres to our Touran over the last 2 years and strip, puncture repair and refit my A3 without a single mark. Even put the A3 rim carefully (inner face) on a tyre rather than the bench. Neighbour also swears by (as opposed to at) them for great care and great prices
