What a mess- time for a BIG change!!!

I have had an unlucky experience in the snowy conditions. It involved: a pheasant, a very muddy road, loss of control and ploughing my car under a line of barbed wire!!!

I have a red 2004 Audi 2.0 TDI S-line DSG. (same original shape as MattAndrew).

Now i have some very uncomfortable markings on my roof, and boot from where the barbed wire has slipped over the car (imagine dragging 3-4 cats accross ur roof with thier nails out!)

So this is the opportunity i think i have been waiting for- i have the cash and i want to get a facelift 2008 S3 front end and rear bumper, with bonnet (get it all sprayed up) and repair and respray the roof and rear end (very light filler work).

I know it is an ambigious question, but how much do u think i'm looking at?? I need some real help hear guys- need the parts and anyone who can recommend or is willing to do this work i have cash waiting!

Would really appreciate ur advice and help.

    Rich.

Get some pics up, but sorry to hear about the damage, snow causes all kinds of trouble, then you get people sayin they love it...

Well there is a front end on ebay, bumper, bonnet, lights, wings, that was at 800 last time i looked yesterday, you need the rear bumper, get stuff resprayed, so im think well over a grand..and thats if your very lucky and find the parts second hand..

    Complete bumper 300.
    Bonnet 100
    Rear bumper 250

    Paint - 350.

    That doesnt include the roof.

I was thinking S3 and that was the prices they were going for on the bay..

    Here's a bumper http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/audi-s3-bumper...ayphotohosting - make sure its genuine

BTW - you'll need to sort your exhaust out aswell as they wont sit in teh S3 exhaust recess - you'll need a new backbox as well

Looks like its a repair job given its been primed which the S3 isnt from stock like that anyway, but you never know could be new but doubt

You will really need to do sides as it would look weird given comes down lower at rear & front so sides looks stupid as mine did on the Sport A3, cost arm & leg but looks the dogs hazels

Sorry to hear about your experience thats going to be quite costly to get sorted. In my opinion i think the Front bumper would be around 350 complete with Grills etc., bonnet around 80, the Rear bumper around 250. Are you going to want Xenon headlights aswell to do your conversion? They Would be around 400 and then the respray would vary dependant on who its from. i think all in all it would be around 1500 +

Appreciate your help with this guys.

Do you think i should stick with a refreshed s-line rear or would that not come as low as the S3 front bumper. Obviously it has to look proportionate and i want it to look factory and mint.

I'm happy to do the sides too, but i've heard they are a ***** to do and i won't be touching any of this work myself- so worry that a bodyshop may mess up the sealing etc and cause rusting months down the line.

I'm thinkin it wud be a good time to slot the Xenon's in too and complete the job as i was thinkin of this anyway.

Everything is so up in the air. And looking on ebay for parts is a nightmare!!

There are people bidding crazy prices for front ends, like 500 plus (damaged!!) surely you can get new cheaper!???

All i need is some seriously good contacts, some guys who know how to get the job done and are willing to do it and some realistic pricing!...not much to ask i know...

Talk to Matt as he's up your way, he can always chat with me for any help with things given I've done the whole lot & more, but he's more than capable of doing & even getting oem parts for you, probably spraying aswell, skirts are not a ***** to do, just take time & patients & get all parts, easy peasy lemon squeezy

Okay here is the latest update, I have just been to my local bodyshop and we have inspected the damage caused by the barbed wire and diagnosed the following as needing repair and respray:

    Whole Boot
    Whole entire Roof
    Both Rear 3 quarters
The thin strip which runs from rear 3 quarter above the door right down to wing mirror (next to roof rail) on both sides

He has quoted me 400 for this work, and 2 days to do it. I thought this was pretty good- what do u guys think.

I asked him about the spray work on the S3 parts also. To spray the front bumper, bonnet, side skirts and rear bumper and then fit it all flush to the car he said 500 and it will take 3 days... how do u think that sounds?

Interested to know ur thoughts guys!

If its 500 to paint everything including new parts for S3 look & fit, not 900 then bite his fecking hand of mate, lmao, thats cheap, but 900 seems tad rich in current climate

I find that you get what you pay for with paint jobs. If possible, have a look at some of his previous work to get an idea of how good (or not) he is.

    Thats very true.

The quote is as i have written below: 400 for the barbed wire damage to car.

Then 500 for complete prep, spray and fit of all the S3 parts.

Back in the Day (when i was 18), i used to spray cars for Toyota, so i know how to do it- its just i have no-idea of bodyshop prices as i used to spray them on the production line.

I looked round his spray booth and it is a slow bake oven with a water wall (top notch like). Sat in their was a Range Rover sprort in gunmetal grey he had finished a few hours ago- It looked f*ckin mint!!

I have faith in his ability, coz i have the eye for quality, and of all the colours Red is one which isn't too hard to spray- just takes a while to build the colour up.

How much wud u guys say i should be paying for S3 complete front end, rear end and side skirts as a second hand 'job lot' ??

Price sounds about right to me to be honest. I'd be more reassured by the 900 quote. I'd be worried if it was 500 for the lot but 900 is worth paying to get a top notch job (in my mind anyway). Especially as you've seen some of his work.

Also ask him before you part with any cash what his policy is if a customer isn't satisfied - with that in mind, any tradesman with a solid belief in their work shouldn't take any cash until you're happy anyway.

Meh, I say go for it!

Reassured by a higher quote, lol, christ let me know next time you need any type of work done then I'll give you the highest price possible as this all but assures me of the work, lol, I mean really thats a kinda stupid thought process IMHO, seriously I paid 385 for my S3 kit to be painted & the work was 1st class to say the least, christ if I followed that notion of higher price obviously means better work I've have a bloody paint job cost more than my car, lmao, I've seen supercars with paint jobs & gaps in bodywork that would make you cringe.

Not as stupid as it sounds. (1) You get what you pay for. (2) You have to be fcking good or a total con-merchant to charge a meaningful amount. If he'd offered to do the entire lot for 100 - everyone here would walk away. Don't deny it! (3) Plus its only in conjunction with seeing the premises and samples of the work - and he's seen this.

Its worth paying it for the peace of mind. Look at how many 8L owners with rusting rear quarters and arches and doors have been back and forward to bodyshops because of poor paintwork.

don't sound too bad, is it solid red or missano ??? you get what you pay for and a good painter is worth paying for, if he gets it wrong then you will end up hating the car.

Yeah but then again you also dont have to pay high prices for a damn good job, you're attitude of the higher price obviously equals a better job is rather nieve to say the least, I have 3 friends that do paint & they're pretty damn good but they dont charge huge prices to people, they charge a fair price & usually far below what alot of others I know do, not because there work is any less of a job than the more expensive ones, actually its better, but to also state this, it doesnt need to be bloody audi's paint shop to do a great job, some of the best work comes out of older paintshops, not stunningly looking glass fronted business centres, lol, after all its paintshops we're talking about not buckingham palace

    1. you dont get what you pay for these days, you can pay very little get a cracking job(as per now economy has made people drop prices for work) or you can pay a lot & get the most ****tiest job you've seen, been like that since time began or since we last evolved, lmao, there is a certain amount of common sense to know whose good or bad dont you agree & there's the painters who want a good name
    2. You dont have to be fecking good to charge a meaningful amount, as said above, but conmerchants charge little or alot, there's no set policy is there for this kinda thing, its as already stated common sense who you use & helps if you're savvy with these things huh
    3. Yes I'd agree seeing the work, but seeing the premises doesnt neccessarily mean its a great/**** job, not at all, one of my mates has got an old wooden building with a proper baking room in but doesnt do **** work, I've seen **** jobs done for expensive prices within there flashy building

Doesnt mean seeing a building that closely resembles the Louvre means I get a great job, really doesnt, lmao

It all comes down to common sense & word of mouth sometimes, plus seeing the work

(Anyway today I'm pissed of cause my back hurts & still got this fecking flu/cough after 1.5 months, then my doctor says oh its killing old people, thanks a feck for that info, bar steward) lmao

When I had my old red 1998 A3 (lazer red IIRC) resprayed after somebody ran into the back of my car there was a ever so slight difference but that was only because I was looking for it and under streetlights.

Firstly Rich sorry for now getting back to your email sooner, ive been busy with one thing and another.

I emailed my parts place today so should have a reply tomorrow. Sorry to hear about the damaged to your car.

Regarding the mapping question, basically the map changes the settings in the ECU and gives extra bhp and torque. A 140bhp 2.0 diesel will go to 170/180. The map transforms the car, like I said before your welcome to have a run out in mine.

    Mapping sounds good!!

I have the car booked in for the first stage of the work to start next Tuesday (will take full before and after shots). This will include filler work and full respray to: full roof, both 3 quarters, full boot, spoiler, side rails and front pillars.

Need to desperately source the S3 kit for the second stage of the project. Need full S3 front end (57 shape), sides and rear bumper and bonnet- anyone know some good links??...

With this in mind i want to change the exhaust to the S3 spec too, does anyone know the part number for this and is it an easy swap?? Will i just need the back box?? (some guidance here would be appreciated)

To let you know my direction, i'm looking to make an S3 replica but want to keep it branded as an S-line. So will have an s-line badge on the grill.... (I don't want the embarrassment of losing a challenge from the blazin squad member at the lights with his Turbo'd Corsa!!)

Aim is to have this all boxed off by spring (cosmetics have to be done for summer- its all about the looks!!), but unfortunately the garages and people i have spoke to about parts don't seem to share my urgency or enthusiasm!!!?? (not directed at you MattAndrew)

When i have the kit and bonnet sprayed i'm gonna get the wings and doors wafted over to cement the uniformed colour and this bring the car back up to showroom condition.

Then i can breathe and concentrate on the winter projects...

Thing is the new sills have S3 in them & the S3 skirts will not work with the SLine sills 100% cause of the fitment, so as much as I didnt want S3 written on car I had to have it for the sills fella & why not goto audi directly & ask for the parts then ask for a 10% discount, I get that default now, I'd guess you'd also get something like this for all those parts

Dont forget yours is a pre facelift so you will also need a new bonnet and bumper bar in order to fit the S3 bumper

Dont need a new bumper bar, all you have to do is trim the bottom corners about an inch vertically & 15cm's along the bottom so grind that angle of & it fits perfectly round the S3 bumper, this is exactly what audi do aswell cause it says adjust with workshop tools & the original S3 one has these bits trimmed of to, so no difference in rest of bump bar from yours & S3 except these angled bits, I've done this so know for sure

I actually did a load of replies to someone recently about S3 body upgrade, do a search or if I find it I'll post link.

I followed Mattandrews guide and he said you needed a new bumper bar to fit the one piece grille. I was under the assumption that you trim the bumper bar only if you have a big grille already and want to fit S3?

If not I have a bumper bar here thats no good to me!

I know Matt fairly well, he did say get a new one but I looked at the difference & read etka/elsa & they say trim it for the upgrade, its simply as I said above & fitted perfectly, its only so the bar goes round the huge fog areas anyway, thats only difference ladies, so no new bar needed, just a grinder

Can you believe it, audi actually have a TSB for this mod, 1st time ever can tell yer, very strange

If I was you mate I'd trim the edges of your spare bar & sell on AS or ebay saying for S3 06-08 upgrade etc, 30 easily, lol, some wont have a grinder & also dont wanna feck it up.

Right guys, the A3 is in the bodyshop now and i get it back on Saturday- so quite apprehensive about the final results- am gonna go down to the bodyshop tomorrow to check the prep work.

Will post before and after photo's on Saturday or Sunday.

But the real issue is the S3 bodyparts- i still need the full front end, rear bumper, xenon lights, face lift bonnet and sides.

But can i get them....nope! Get very little response from the guys on ebay and they are looking for stupid money for the parts.

Does anyone have access to the prices of these parts from dealer???

Need some serious help sourcing these parts as it is really holding up everything- i have the cash waiting- which is the most frustrating thing!!

    Let me know guys!

Well I will chat with Matt as he's up near you, no promises but PM exactly what you need & I will see if he will let me deal under his guise while he's away, I know him fairly well so you never know, as I said I wont promise the earth just yet & deliver nothing, but I'll try then can chat with stealers.

But the healdights is another story tbh, from stealers they're ridiculous, so to find them anywhere cheaper is bonus.

I have the headlight loom if you're interested so no need to get from kufatec, just what I paid thats all if you're doing bixenon which I strongly advise.

Dont do any front fixings without doing headlights 1st, trust me I've done it all.

Did you check my recent posts about S3 skirts, etc fitment, sills, door bottoms etc?

Yes i have contacted that guy on ebay, he wants 1,000,000 for every part. He also wants 150 for a bonnet, which i think is very steep.

It is also quite dubious that the parts are off a Cat B write off and the bumper has been primed which to me suggests it has been repaired...and he always lists his parts as G@@D condition. Now i don't know if i'm just being cynical...but why wud you always use the '@' sign instead of 'o' to describe a parts condition...exploiting a loophole maybe....Hmmmmmm!

    Not too sure.

I had a guy contact me not too long back on here called Jay about all the parts he had and his prices were more realistic- but he's never got back in touch- which is frustrating!
