My missus last weekend bought a Mk4 Golf R32 with a full Milltek, having driven it a few times i now find my A3 boring!

To make it worse i have now rebuilt my Polo G40 engine after melting a valve and that also makes my A3 feel dull slow and boring to drive!

Anyone else bored of their A3 yet?

Not at all fella, love it & having driven S3 for 7 years & S4 B6 for 2, I'm still happy with my derv for now, but I fancy a sportback S3 or even a Scirocco 4wd when released as they have a 4wd Golf 6(facelift 5) now so wont be long

Saw a scirocco earlier, I just love the road stance man, fat wide & just waiting for me to get my hands on one to mod the feck out of, lol, lol

Still got those damn springs, lol, find a buyer will yer please

I havent even got mine yet-been looking for a while now. Currently driving a 1.2 Corsa sxi so I'm sure jumping into a 2.0 170 brake a3 wont disapoint me! lol I couldnt belive the handaling and smoothness of the car when I took it for a test drive.....then I got back in my corsa :( GUTTED! haha

Oh yes, i've been bored with mine for some time, i've been looking at different options but not jumped yet. I've only had the A3 for 12 months but our puma is more fun, my old escort cabriolet was more fun, a fiat 500 was miles more fun and a renault clio was more comfortable. The only thing i'm struggling with is what to replace it with, i've considered loads but at the moment i'm thinking either a Mondeo ST TDi and getting some money back or an Astra 888, if I went for petrol it would probably be a Focus ST2 a Mazda 3 MPS or a BMW 130i.

The A3 isn't a bad car but it has no personality, it just isn't fun.

those 1.2 corsa's are only just slower than an F1 car ! once wound up they don't half shift !

Be like me, I live above my work & tend to drive either the hire drive vans or customers cars more than mine. Makes getting back into mine a pleasure LOL

HAHA eh they are nippy, love mine to bits-had it since brand new and its as light as a microwave! But I do just wana get my a3 now, plus my missus has just got a new 1.6 cooper and it seems so much faster than mine-I love driving it!

hmmmm i'd say don't drive the mini anymore you'll be deppresed when you have to take the A3 out for a blast. I'd seriously swap mine for a 500 arbarth if i wouldn't look like a tit getting out of it !

Ah this thread has knocked abit of the exciment out of getting my new car now lol wish I wouldnt of read it! haha we need a new thread about why there good and I should buy one!

i wouldn't worry too much, the A3 is a great family car ... you have kids ???? lol, seriously you might like it, I just find it a little un exciting, i actually prefered my golf an focus that I owned before, still everyone is different, the 170 is a very nice engine i'm sure you will like it.

S3 is a million miles away from boring (remapped of course).
Had 20+ cars, many of them hot hatches so reckon Im qualified to say so.
Had MK5 GTi (remapped) which was brilliant and very highly rated in the motoring press and still reckon S3 is better, , but its much more money so thats expected IMO.

Like NHN like the idea of a Scirocco though, seen one on the road for the 1st time today and its a lovely thing, loved old Corrados Ive owned but would need a bonkers synchro version to tempt me from another S3.
To be fair Ive never owned other AUDIs so nothing to compare against.
Is a Corsa really more fun than a 170 Derv A3? Cant believe overall ownership is better.

Fond memories of old GTEs and R5GTTs but no desire to have a Megane or VXR.
EVO X and STi has my interest but the running costs dont.
Still ticking the boxes makes me take a backwards glance whe I lock it up which says a lot.
Maybe keep and got the the JonnyC/Big Andy Route.....

Well I am looking for a A3 2.0T Quattro 3 door S line manual in any colour apart from silver (no offence to anybody) as long as it is a post 05 (single grill) they seem rarer than hens teeth.
Okay it doesnt help that I have a kia to part ex that is only 6 months old but if I ignore that fact still not many about, plenty of TDI ones.
So that rules out the few private ones that are about.
Have thought about PCP on a new one but 20,000 a year blows that.
So if I buy another S3, a year to eighteen months old with 20,000 on the clock (between £18,000 to £20,000) and put between 15/20,000 miles on a year will it depreciate much more per year that the 20T Q version as running costs are not going to be much different and both cars cost about the same at that age.
Sorry all but I hate low performance diesels (apart from the mpg) my kia has all of 140bhp,I feel I could walk faster at times.
Dipstic by name,dipstic by nature:keule:

The A3 was not built as a car to compare to the R32 though. You could only compare the S3 to the R32 (and having driven both the S3 would win hands down). Comparing the A3 with an R32 or 130i is not a fair or reasonable comparison.

Sorry its a major culture shock from S3 to a diesel kia, perhaps its the time of the month lol:blink:

Fail to see how a torquey 170bhp hatch with all that refinement wont be a pleasure to own and drive.

Enjoy it.:icon_thumright:

Cheers

you could say that about a mini but I bet it would run rings around an A3, whilst you cannot directly compare a 130i to the A3 when 13k will buy you a 2 year old 130i or a A3 tdi then I would compare them in a way, having said that i've just come off auto trader and a 2005 Mondeo ST220 3.0 is a touch over 5-6k !!!!

I got one..................not worth selling though as the market is crap and i will lose soooooooooooooooo much money on it

Exactly my point, and I am not knocking the A3 tdi, think everyone is doing the same

Ok.

Im either ****** or just confused.

Weve got A3s/S3s/130s/MINIs/KIAs/MONDEOs/V6 Golfs and Corsas all being compared.
A broad spectrum indeed.
Think Ive missed something,

Gonna ring Quentin Wilson and get back to you.

Not comparing my Kia to anything lol its in a world of its own

I am going to ask this question.

If you had a choice what would you choose? 1.4TFSi Audi A3 or Mini Cooper S? Very different I know but there it is.

I have a choice to make

there's no comparison, A3 all the way, more room, much nicer interior, reliable, practicle, many things really, cooper might be nippy but tbh its built for munchkins, lol

I dont like the Minis image, too many about these days but the cooper S handles as well as any car i've ever driven. Its a point and shoot go kart style drive and is completely different to the A3

It also has a stupidly small boot and that silly electric power steering you can hear coming a mile away!;)

if you want to enjoy the car then the mini, i'm just over 6'4 and I can fit comfortably behind the wheel although no one can sit behind me. Oh and the electric pump for the power steering has been redesigned on the mk2 model so it doesn't buzz/whine like the early cars. just buy one without many options and you will lose less than you will on an A3, which are losing money, i've lost 7k on mine in 1 year.

not keen on the interior of the mini & as its what you see when your driving it has to be nicer. Haven't driven one apart from into the workshop but what it the deal with the armrest? Kinda awkward to let handbrake off without hitting it with your elbow.

I'm looking forward to what Audi bring to the table to keep us in the fold in the coming months. Should start to see some pics of the new a3 platform soon enough *rubs hands*

Now the facelift is out of the way and in full production the four rings need to release some info to keep us salivating :D

Im still well happy with mine :D

I have only had it four weeks tho, and its been in the garage for two of them!

I have perviously had a rover 216 coupe, a hyundai 2.0 coupe gen1, a mazda mx6 2.5v6i manual a celica 1.8 vvtli 190 and my a3 140 tdi is nearly as fun but with double the econmy.

I am sure i will be board of it soon tho, but thats when the modifying starts!

A!

Exactly the same move I made. Doesn't take long to get used to it!

I find I appreciate my car more after I have had a drive of something else.

Coulnt take it any more,so just purchased a facelift Red S3

OPPS:whistle2:

a renault clio was more comfortable.

The A3 isn't a bad car but it has no personality, it just isn't fun.

Agreed. Test drove a clio 182 the other day and it was amzing comapared to the a3.

Had mine for exactly 1 year now and love it to death.

Agreed it's not the most exciting thing to drive but I was fully aware of that when I bought it. Audi's aren't about edge or your seat driving dynamics (unless your opt for an RS model). I love it for its relaxed manor, build quality and image.

Best car I've ever owned!
