hi all i have a ongoing oil leak, so had a mechanic look at it he took lots of bits off and found that its the crankshaft seal thats leaking,(when i say leaking a slow leak, meaning when i leave the car overnight you can see like a 2p size oil on the road, thats only because i have the under tray off), as you know to replace that you need to take off the timing belt along with lots of other bits and it is quiet pricey, the mechanic said that it will not cause problems with that oil leak and can wait till your timing belt is due and than change the seal, whats your guys advise

If I was you I would get it done, the leak is not going to cure it's self and if it causes contamination to the belt then it could cause it to break. After all a 2p patch is quite alot when you think over 20/30k miles.

It depends how long ur keeping the car, how many miles has the car done. Your better off getting it done sooner, as oil leaking onto the belt could lead to bigger problems. If your planning on keeping the car until up to 80,000miles jst get the belt done early.
Im doing mine tommorrow as it done 74,000 now, at the same time most people replace the belt tensioners and roller and the water pump.

well its done 55k at the moment, and i have no plan in selling it as yet,i had a qoute from stoke audi they will do the seal, cambelt, tensioner, water pump for £425, is that a ok price?, the cambelt change on its own is for £275

ill check out the prices on my invoice for all the parts and let you know, check on ebay as a few audi dealers ie crewe and stoke had offers on there.
£425 including labour and VAT was a qoute from STOKE AUDI,
that included the cambelt and tensioner and water pump, and the crankshaft seal,
so that works out a extra £150 for the water pump and crankshaft seal
