Hi, Firstly, i've got to say what a brilliant forum! Been reading this forum for ages but this is my first post, so be easy!

I'm having huge problems with my A3 SB 2.0 TDI DSG, I hope some one will be able to shed some light on it....

I'm getting this horrible shuddering/juddering (like the engine's about to stall) when I'm in 5th or 6th gear. The revs have to be low, say 40mph in 5th or 6th gear and then when I use some low to medium acceleration the car jumps around like crazy! It sounds like the engine mounts are about to be ripped off! The problem disappears if you put your foot down and accelerate hard. A constant vibration can also be felt when at high speed...like 80mph. Its like the car's stuttering but very minutely. All this only happens once the engine has warmed up.
Gone to an Audi specialist....stuck it on VAG-COM....no problems thrown up, the guy spent the day looking at the car and was stumped! Also taken it to 2 other garages with no answers. :banghead:

I don't particularly fancy getting robbed up by Audi at the moment so any help will be much appreciated!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dual mass flywheel, it takes out the vibrations ... however they don't always last that long.

So is this something expensive to fix? Could the problem be anything else? Been hearing horror stories about cars with same sort of symptoms and Audi just changing the gearbox at horrendous cost!

It can be expensive to fix mainly due to labour. The parts are currently quite cheap from VAG, probably due to commonality of the failures.

Normally the clutch and DMF are replaced together.

Depending on a few factors you may be able to ask Audi for a contribution.

Firstly it is a common failure so you could certainly argue that point.

You will be better placed if you have a full Audi history.

similar symptons :( i was thinking it was the DSG but it makes sense to be the fly wheel....

Is there anyway you can tell if its the flywheel besides symptons on hows the cars acting. Can you check the fly wheel visually without have to dissemble anything major ?

Thanks a lot

Hi, thanks for your responses!
Just got off the phone to my local Audi specialist and told him that I have been doing some research about the problem and that a lot of people seem to think it's the DMF.

He then told me "I dont know what your talking about, no automatic in the world has a Dual Mass Flywheel", I ended the conversation feeling a bit embarrassed! :Flush:

Anyway, Is this true? Does the DSG Audi A3 not have a flywheel? Can any one verify this?

Thanks!
Joe

Your car dose have a flywheel, but not a the you have being discussing :jester:.....and if it helps it is the flywheel hat is making your car do that and the dealers are in the know about it...i know this because i have a friend who works at Audi & VW and many car have had the same problem

You shouldn't feel embarrased, you should find another specialist though - perhaps one that knows what he's talking about.
