Hi guys, after having recent mods done to my S3 im finding the clutch cant take the power now and is slipping a lot, have any of you upgraded your clutches yet,if so ant recomendations/prices as a guideline for me as i am going to have to get it replaced very soon as its annoying me,im looking into have an autotech fuel pump fitted at the same time? Id say my car is running around the 330 bhp mark.

I have the Sachs kit on my car, I chose to go with the organic drive plate rather than the 4 paddle option as I use the car everyday and couldn't be arsed with having an on off style clutch..

Saying that, I know of a car with the paddle drive plate and its fine, so really its down to what plans you have with the car

Mine is now running a load more power and torque and its fine! Oh also it runs with the standard Dual mass flywheel..

Also Southbend do a kit, this includes a single mass lightweight ally flywheel, so you will get a fair bit of noise from that but there kits use Sachs components as far as I know anyways!

Hope that helps you out :D

Like Jonny, i have a Sachs (SRE) organic clutch which runs with the OEM dual mass flywheel (also changed) and it works perfectly.

What i don't like is that now the clutch pedal is much harder (at least 3 times compared to stock).

Was thinking this myself - I've been running 342bhp and 344 lb/ft with the standard clutch for over 3 months with no problems at all and this includes track days ...... you absolutely sure its slipping ?? Have you been doing loads of slipped clutch starts or summat ?

The standard clutch is becoming my concern also Wesley so it'll be interesting so see what route you go down with regards upgrading. Sounds as though the Sachs kit works well though.

Oh yes its deffo slipping, when changing from 3rd to 4th theres a noticable slip and also between the other higher gears,i do drive the car hard but hey whats the point of all the mods if im going to drive it like a milk float lol!! Was looking into the sachs cluth and got quoted 480 for the clutch and a maximum of 300 for fitting ,how does this price compare with yours fellas?

Prices sound good to me, but remember you will need a new OEM dual mass flywheel to fit at the same time, they are 580

Yeah, I know what your saying mate, I didnt want to change my DMFW either (for obvious reasons) but everyone I spoke to advised me to do so.. so I did

What I didnt want to do was change to the uprated clutch, pay for all of the work and then not have the benefits and still have the clutch slipping problems..

Jonny, did you run in your clutch ? If yes for how many miles ?

Also someone i know with an EVO IX (changed 4 clutches in 10.000 miles for obvious reasons :-) ) but after the OEM clutch failed, he only changed the clutch plate without the flywheel.

The new clutch failed in less than 500 miles and he had to buy a new one, a new flywheel and pay again for the labour ...

Thats why, remember that the drive plate drives against the flywheel, once a clutch slips it will polish up the flywheel and then thats screwed too.. Now I know what I know I think it would be foolish to just change the pressure plate and the drive plate and not the flywheel..

I ran it in for an hour or so, thats enough.. To be honest they dont really need any running in but I though I would be kind to it after paying out 1423 lol..

I had the same problem with pretty much the same mods (giac and evoms)

I was lucky enough to get the clutch replaced under warranty otherwise Audi wanted 1300 to supply and fit a new clutch, release bearings and dmf which as jonny said needs to be done.

The cheapest i could find for an Audi approved non franchised dealer was around 700, i would imagine if you go uprated this cost would rise.

My advice would be to try get Audi to do it under warranty and make do with the standard clutch if you dont plan on going much further with the mods.

Audi also give a 2 year warranty on the clutch so you can give it hell and not worry.

That's what i thought too so i took it easy for around 150 miles. Oh, and i think twice before launching the car aggressively :-)

Now that is worth knowing Sohrob. Did they replace the DMF under warranty too ? And did the dealer not question / object to the warranty work given that your car was obviously modified ?? If not then the warranty route is clearly the option over and above a 1400 Sachs jobbie if I should ever experience difficulties (nothing yet - touch wood).

yes they did clutch, dmf and release bearings all under warranty. I put the car back to std map and it didnt slip but i insisted that it slipped so they had to take it out.

Because it was at the early stages when they took it out the damage wasnt to bad.

It is also worth pointing out to Audi that the dmf is prone to failure, they have been having quite a few problems with it.

Had exactly the same situation with a MK5 Gti + REVO Stage 1.
DMF was knackered so the whole lot was replaced under warranty by VW as the clutch had sufferred `consequential damage`. Although if it had been the clutch that had failed and not the DMF then it wouldnt have been covered under warranty.

It could be that your DMF is knackered and not the clutch as the symptoms are the same.

Its a bit worrying that a std S3 clutch/DMF struggles with 330bhp as Im around 310bhp so concerned that Im so near the limit with only Stage 1 REVO.

    Good luck
    Paul

How did you manage to get Audi to agree with changing all this lot,i phoned them today and they didnt want to know saying it was down to wear and tear!!

it was hard work and you will really have to kick off, talk loudly in front of other customers, say you will contact trading standards and also mention its a common fault and that should do it!!!

If that fails leave a couple of axes in the car like i did lol
