    Question DRL Question

Just wonder if any of the guys on here with new S3's have any idea how to turn the DLR on. Had a look at the manual and it says they are turned on and off with the thumb wheel by the light switch. Maybe i am reading it wrong but it says they will come on either in the 0 or Auto position. The thumb wheel just adjusts the level of back light so am a bit confused as they only come on with the main lights or when you select side lights. Probably a simple answer....sorry if i'm being dull LOL

Mine might be different to yours been the 2008 model, but to the right of the thumb wheel is another switch which on mine is marked 0 or 1. (0 been off and 1 been on all the time)

Hmmmm......I've been wondering the same thing. There is no thumbwheel that I can see for the DRLs.

I don't have auto lights so to have the DRLs on I have to manually move the light selector knob to the DRL position. There doesn't seem to be a way of having them automatically come on.

I have auto lights too but I don't have a thumbwheel for DRLs. The only thumbwheel I have is for adjusting the dashboard lights.

If I set the lights to 0, all lights switch off, whether it's day or night.

Setting the lights to Auto ensures the DRLs are on permanently and of course the xenons and rear lights will come on when it's dark or raining.

If I set the switch to sidelights, the DRLs switch on along with the rear lights.

Setting the switch to dipped beam will obviously switch on xenons, DRLs and rear lights.

There's a clever little trick with the DRLs. When you switch on your indicator, the DRL on that side will dim slightly, which I assume is to make sure people aren't dazzled by the DRL and so fail to see the indicator.

Definitely don't have it on my DIS menu. Only 2 lights options are internal lights and indicators.

Are you sure they don't stay on permanently when you switch to Auto? That's how mine work.

His sig says he has light and rain sensor. Isn't that auto lights?

If he didn't have auto lights he would have a DRL option on the light switch dial, which would also enable them to be on all the time. My brother has an S3 facelift without auto lights and he has the DRL option on the dial.

Will try them again tomorrow, but I am sure although I have Auto lights they do not come on in the daylight. Only when they are selected to Auto at night or main lights. According to the handbook they should be on in the lights off position too. Perhaps they should have renamed them 'Daylight running lights when all the other lights are on or its night time'...I guess DRLWATOLAOOINT didn't sound as cool!!

It would certainly be strange if yours don't work when set to auto. As you say, they wouldn't really be DRLs if you can't switch them on in the daylight!

I'm 100% mine are on in the daylight when set to auto. I alway see them reflecting off cars in front of me at traffic lights.
