    Are they Oakleys??

On topic though, me and my old man went in to look at the new 4x4 hybrid thingy and felt the same lack of enthusiasm.

When we finally approached said saleman, and broached the subject of trade in figures, he wasnt willing to even discuss without us bringing the car in, i dont think he believed such a pair of toe rags could own a 57 plate Jag XK convertible.

    Went a bit like this:

Me "lets assume its in good condition for pricing purposes, what would you offer"?

sales "I cant do that until i see the car"

me "yes but for a rough estimate, to give us an idea, lets assume the jag is in good condition what you you offer?"

sales "i cant do that unless you bring the car in for us to look at"

me "yessss, but for the purpos......."

You can see where this was going.... nowhere fast! Me and the old man laughed all the way out the front door!

Not as much as a smile, no acknowledgement of my existence at all, no hello, no goodbye, and because of that, no future business from me. If I'm after a BMW at any point in the future I'll avoid that place like the plague.
I can relate to this with Bedford BMW. Spent a while looking at the 1 series coupes outside, went inside and looked around, flicked through the coupe brochures, looked at the sales staff, stood doing nothing waiting impatiently, went back outside to look at the cars, got in my car, drove straight to Audi. I started to think I had turned into a ghost.

My car was in Bedford Audi recently to get the electric windows problem sorted. The whole time I was there I was treated like a valued customer, even to the point where when my car was ready the service desk jockey drove it from the bay to the front so I could get into it easily.

A few days later I got a call from the network asking if I would answer a few questions about my visit. I told them everything was great apart from every time I wanted a brew I had to get the receptionist to get it for me. I'd rather have got it myself! I couldn't fault their service. A++++

I was not very impressed with Bedford BMW either. When I called in, again to look at the 1 Series, it was ages before anyone spoke to me. I was with my wife and when she asked some very relevant question the salesman ignored her and directed the answers to me. Ignorant so and so. I had a much better experience with Murkets BMW in Huntingdon.

I've never bought a car from Bedford Audi, but whenever I called in I have always been treated very well. Both Bedford Audi and Huntingdon Audi (where I have bought all my A3s) and in fact Bedford VW where my wife is currently buying a new Polo are part of the Vindis Group. I have known Nigel Vindis for many years and still recognises me and comes over for a chat whenever I happen to see him in one of garages.

How is the Alpina going by the way. Lovely car...
Contrary to popular belief on here, I'm not anti-Audi, per se.
If they ever make a car that twists my nipples, I would not instantly dismiss it, just because it's Audi.
I'm enjoying my Alpina very much, but there's no way I would say that's me a 'BMW man' for life, for example.

Christ knows where I'll end up next, but I did get a real kick out of driving a new C-class Merc in Prague.

    I do hate S3's though.
    I'd ban them.

    Bedford Audi

3 visits, not one of them correctly diagnosed the, I think it was, 4th wheel bearing replacement

Asked for a test drive in the A4 cab as was thinking of getting one for the missus, was told that I could book it for............5 weeks out and that they'd have to come with me, when I asked for an extended test drive was told they "don't do those here"

Bought a Mini from BMW in Bedford, service was superb..........I guess there's huge amounts of inconcistency in the same places!

Spot on, this is the problem.
Not only do brands lack consistency, but specific dealers do too.

Im sure many of us consider themselves working for a decent company.
But I bet it has its fair share of bucknuts, has it not?

Does that make the whole company crap?

Unfortunately if you are unlucky enough to deal with one of these bucknuts then you will naturally form a negative opinion of that outfit.

iirc one of the guys on here has had very good experience with a local dealer (Sunderland AUDI). And yet on my brief visit I found them a disgrace and damn rude.

    Who is right?

I test drove the new C-Class. I was impressed by most aspects of the car but the dash wasn't quite up to Merc standards in my opinion. A wee bit plasticky with that push down plastic sat-nav cover. Not that I could have stretched to one anyway.

The boy across the road from me has just bought a white 200 Kompressor with the AMG bodykit and 18" wheels. I have to say it looks VERY nice.

There are bad dealers no matter where you go. To some extent I think it's just luck if you receive satisfactory service but I also think the attitude of the customer can have a strong effect on the sales staff. If you go in to visit them on one of you 'off' days they are bound to pick up on it.

    Mini Aberdeen

1/ I went to get my wife a Mini. They offered me a derisory trade-in on her existing Clio, so we ended up keeping the Clio instead.

2/ My brother-in-law, just last week, went to buy his wife a Mini. They offered her a derisory trade-in on her existing car, so they ended up buying a new Corsa instead.

Safe to assume they have the luxury of only wanting to deal with 'cash deal' customers then?

If my wife ever decides she wants a Mini again, and even if we don't have a trade-in, I will not be going back there.

I went out this afternoon to get some more fuel and decided to call in to a BMW dealers to get the latest on the 1 series. Huntingdon BMW where I got good service last time now only sell second-hand BMWs. Strange!

So I called in to Bedford BMW. The last time I called in there the sales guy was really useless. This time and a different chap and he could not have been more helpful. We talked about the car and all the options. I said I would probably be interested in an auto-gearbox and what was the chance of a day-long test drive. No problem - he would get whichever model I was interested in through the dealer network and I could have it for a day. Quite a change from the last time. Still not sure I like the 1-series but it will certainly worth having one for a day to see what it's like to drive.
