    Just REVO`d

    As title.

Had it done on Sat, the car absolutely flies now.

MUCH quicker, transforms the car, even better than I had expected.

    Recommended 100%.

BTW Im running Fuel=9, Boost=7, Timing 7 and always on V-Power.

Just need to exercise some restraint or will be seeing MPG in teens quite regularly....

    Cheers
    Paul

Nicely done! I'm on REVO stage 2 now running F3 T1 B8...she feels oh so smooth! Fuel consumption, 8.9lt/100km. On B4 T2 F8 she guzzles fuel! Consumption on these settings 16.4lt/100km! The REVO stage 1 map for me is an absolute blast...I love it and the zorst tone is just superb! Enjoy mate!

    Cheers.

Exhaust/Turbo/Induction noise have all changed for the better.
The car has got audibly more `edgy`.
    Love it.

    Not yet.

Plan to get one from e-bay, they go for 75 on there which is half of the REVO rrp.

Not that I will be switching it off very often.....

All that extra grunt is VERY addictive

Good luck in choosing which map, this is my 3rd REVO`d car and its an excellent product.

    cheers

Welcome to the Revo stable mate. Nice isn't it?
I would suggest knocking the timing down to 5 or 6 though. Especially during the summer..

    I couldn't agree more!
I'm visting my parents up in the north and spent today cruising the north yorkshire moors.... it's the first real driving i've manged since the car had the springs, ARB's and GIAC map fitted..... I'm really pleased with it all and have really surprised myslef with the pace at which it covers ground now..... The ARB's set up even invites the rear end of the car to the party making it far more adjustable.....

Why turn the Timing setting down? Whats the significance of running 5 or 6 instead of 7?

The standard (if you can call it that!) map settings are F9, T6 & B6. Running too much timing or boost with hot weather conditions will mean that the ECU has to pull back the timing and can put the car into limp mode. I'm sure one of the Revo guys will be along soon to correct me if i'm wrong.

I'm sure I'm wrong but this all sounds like a bit of a ball-ache. Don't you just want to make your car faster and better ALL of the time without fannying around with settings ?

No ball ache at all actually. Its fun trying out different settings...you get to fine tune your car to what you like. Summer days I wind down the timing and enjoy the fact that my car doesn't feel lazy. On cold days, jack up the timing and unleash the ponies!

I ran my Golf on the same settings, B7, T7,F9, all year round and it never felt any different??
Obviously cold/damp days when the air was nice and dense on full of O2 it was better but thats also the case on a std car.

My REVO agent seemed cool with these settings and previous conversations with REVO direct have never suggested `seasonal` settings??

Sould I get the timing wound down?
    Should I worry?

    cheers

I wouldn't worry to much mate. Just going off what my tuner said really.. Mine is set on 5 and I run Tesco 99 all the time and going off VAGCOM it's running sweet as a nut and has been for 12k now. I can go to 6 he says, but on really warm days (not that we've had any really lol) it may pull back a tad he said, so left it at 5. When the cooler weather comes I shall knock it up to 6 though..
If you have race fuel or BP102 then you can up the timing a lot more.. But on pump I was advised to leave it at 5-6..
Where's Kev when you need him?...

    Cheers for the advice.
Maybe I should be on T6 then.

Its been 21deg according to the DIS today and Ive been out for a little run and its been Ok.
And, 21deg is tropical for the North east !

Vtec is bang on the nail, T6 is for the likes of Tescos finest, but on hot days it can pull back so T5 is a good compromise. T7 would be for Millers and superunleaded.

Until I can get to my REVO guy will the car be ok on T7 for now then?
Im assuming as Im running within REVOs user parameters that the car wont suffer any ill affects?

No you should be fine, the safety mechanisms built into the ecu software are all still active. What will happen is that the ecu will detect knocking and pull the timing loosing you power.

The reason that you optimise the Timing setting is because if you let the Ecu pull the timing it will do so a bit on the coarse side and as such you will be running below the optimal timing.

VAG-COM logging is your friend here, or workout a set with your dealer and use a select switch, with settings depending on the conditions.

IIRC Im sure I ran T6 on my MK5 and never changed it and it seemed fine in all conditions.
On Sat when I was at the dealer I had a bit of a brain fart and couldnt remember the Timing setting I ran on my Golf. Im on F9 and B7 which is the same as previous and we took a bit of a guess and went for T7.

    Will get it changed shortly.

In fact, is there anyone with a Select+ around Tyne&Wear who fancies helping me out?

    Cheers

    Thanks for the offer mate.
Im in South Shields (near Newcastle/Sunderland) so could go back to the REVO dealer in Darlington (Golf Centre- Alan Fishburn) and he will sort it for me.

Was actually trying to save me a few miles and track down someone a bit nearer. Darlo is about 90miles round trip for me, Leeds is a bit more.

    Thanks again

Hey Guys, sorry I've been away this week!

There is no be all end all setting for optimum performance all year round for all weathers. The optimum settings would differ depending on the fuel quality and conditions, for example: on a hot day you'd want to run slightly less than on a really cool day. That's when you're running the car to it's potential though, if you want to have it upgraded and use it all year round then your dealer will set it up that way running settings that would be ideal on the hotter days but more than fine on the cooler ones. It's not a necessity to 'play' with the settings, it's just a benefit for those that want to.

The dealers should not be 'guessing' at settings... especially if running higher settings. It needs to be datalogged and setup correctly. If I was 'guessing' I'd be running timing 5 or 6. Although I don't like guessing, I like to follow our guide: https://www.revotechnik.com/products...uide_V0707.pdf

    Thanks Kev.

So am I `safe` with B7,T7,F9 at the minute ?

I plan to reduce T7 to T6 to mirror the settings I ran on my Golf Gti 20T.
The car seemed spot on all year round on these settings.

Can I set the S3 the same?
REVO not publish some kind of optimum `year round settings`?

    Appreciate your help on this.

    Cheers
    Paul

    Paul/all,

How bizarre given our last conversation . I was searching on Allan Fishburn as my nearest REVO agent in the NE and stumbled on your thread.

I was looking to see if anyone had previous experiences really. I see that you have used him and there were no adverse reports. So is it safe to assume he knows his stuff?

I have to say I visited the premises last weekend, but sadly it was closed. But (and i know about book and covers...) I wasn't overly taken by the look of the place - hence my trepidation.

    Any opinions gratefully received.

Really straight up genuine guy, used him a few times for remaps, as has my brother and a mate of mine.
He a very knowldgeable old school petrol head and will happily chat and give advice if needed..

As you have witnessed, his premises are very `limited`to say the least, but as the remap process could essentially be done anywhere, Ive not let that put me off as he knows his stuff.

When I had my MKV Golf Gti it had bout 4 dealer reflashes due to various software recall upgrades/warranty work and each time he reflashed the REVO map FOC.
He also helped diagnosing the DMF problems I had with the car, and fitted a new DV for a nominal charge

I have 3 other REVO agents closer to me than Fishburn but am more than happy to do the 80mile round trip if i have a problem.
Certainly worth having a chat with him.

Feel free to PM me of you need any more info before you commit.

    cheers

Very many thanks for the swift response, it is appreciated and I take on board your points and experiences. You are right, experience and ability far out-weigh neon lights and coffee machines.

I will give this guy a buzz later then and see where he is with pricing. I will let you know how I get on .

Paul, Dont you think that timing 7 is a bit high? Or is it just me? my fuel is also 9 and boost is also 7 but my timing is on 4 - 5 as the low end feels very aggressive already. I am afraid that if you go higher the engine will be closer to detonation...

Or are the S3 engines better against detonation due to the lower compression when compared to the regular 2.0ts??

Not sure mate but my understanding as that the 0-10 user definable settings are pretty much idiot proof so if a novice starts `experimenting` he/she shouldnt be able to damage the car. At least in the short term anyway.
I also understand the ECU will apply correctional factors if there is something it doesnt like, to keep things in check.

That said, Ive had mine turned down to T6 for a while now just to be sure with B7, F5 still the same.

    All seems well so far.

The REVO Oracle (Kev) is the man to speak to for more info.

Iggu has also done a lot of playing with his Select+ and logging so should also be able to chip in if hes around.

    Hope this helps
    Cheers

You should definitely always run F9 as long as you put in Optimax, Ultimate or Tesco 99 (as you should anyway on these cars).
Paul is right - you could run all 3 settings on 9 and the engine could not detonate: the ECU just pulls back and you see "correctional factors" in Vagcom. So higher settings do not always equal the best performance.
You need to tweak the settings to the point where the engine is delivering its maximum output but not pulling back.
When I was stage 1 my car ran on B7 F9 T6 for a year with no problems - and 344 bhp (342 lb/ft). Every car is very different though - I know Stage 2+ people who run B9 all the time with no issues at all but on my car B8 is the ceiling before the CFs start to ruin the fun.
In the summer it is wise to knock the timing down a notch as the CFs may increase due to higher running temps.
Enjoy your Revo mate - it is the king !

    Just a quick update:

As above, I went to the MarkIV Centre, Darlington and met with Allan that same night (Monday). As Paul stated in his post, Allan is a straight up guy and is very knowledgeable. He uploaded the REVO trial software and set it to 6 6 9 (IIRC) as I use Tesco's finest. The software had a problem communicating with the ECU initially (2007MY S3), but he managed to resolve it - using a file (?) from the record saved on Paul's car.

I don't want to bore on, as there are lots of posts on this subject on ASN. BUT...the difference was immediately apparent and this is with the 80% fill. Throttle response in 1st and 2nd is far better; 3rd is as you would expect - quick; but for me 4th is the software's best moment as the increase in torque makes it a far more progressive and useful gear; there is a slight flat spot on the lower ranges of 5th, but I am sure that can be resolved; and 6th is now able to keep pace with the ebb and flow of typical UK M'way traffic (when not nose to tail).

Down side so far? *cough* 18 MPG

Currently 2.5 hrs into the 5 hr trial and work permitting I am going in on Saturday for the full map.

I will try not to make this sound like an advert, but Allan has assured me of what effectively is a FOC careplan for the life of the Map, i.e. he will adjust settings as required and re-map in the event of the worst.

I now see why those with the maps believe they transform the car. I just have to resist the urge to do anything more after

Thanks to Paul for the advice by PM.

Block's post was from last August mate - he's been remapped for nearly 10 months now.

Resistance is futile. Revo transforms the car - but just wait til you get a Milltek and Cold Air Intake on there: insane power ! And then get the fuel pump and go Stage 2+.
Don't fight it - it is your destiny my son.

Anytime matey, and once the full software version is on, Boost set at 7 and ECU adapted, you will have something to really grin about.

For a while anyway, unless you get bored and follow Iggs `power junkie `route (yes I have/am thinking about it!)

    Enjoy

    Cheers
