Just a quick question that I'm hoping somebody can answer.

In the process of investigating a new mod and need to know what bulbs are in the following places:

dome light
map lights
footwell lights
glovebox light
number plate lights
rear courtesy lights
vanity mirror lights
interior boot light.

I assume most of them will be festoon jobs, but if anyone has additional info on the wattages and sizes required.

more info on the mod to follow once I have all the required information.

Do you mean where their origin is? like where they get their source of power?

I thought I was quite nifty with custom mods but you Marc and going to another level lol

The light cover for the map lights and main interior light is a simple pry off job and easy to take on and off!

What are the number plate lights? I saw a BMW the other day and their lights were white/xenon tinge which looks a lot nicer than yellow!

I changed all mine in my 5 series to LED festoons, looked quite cool.

IIRC for the reg plate bulbs you will get an light bulb error on the dash. If theres an easy way around this I would be interested to do my rear number plate lights.

I'm quite interested in this actually. I think the door open and puddle lights could be a bit brighter. And whiter number plate and footwells would looks snazzy!

what i'm looking at doing is replacing all the interior lights and the number plate bulbs with either Xenon or "Xenon LED" bulbs.

have fired off an email to a crowd who do them as a kit looking for a price and info on a possible group buy.

count me in marcus!

Even red for some bulbs would suit those with the interior light pack

Are you timing this so that "august" has finished before you buy the parts? :)

You can fit the ambient light unit into your rear roof light while your at it! You just need a drill and some patience!

Ive changed the main lights which are festoons to leds and they look sooo much better. I changed the map reading lights to leds, the first ones I ordered were useless as the led was on the end of the bulb and it didnt direct the light the right way, so I used one with the led on the side of the bulb. Ill try take some pics.
When i changed the rears I had issues with the lights been on very dim, even when all doors are shut, at the minute I still have the standard bulbs in the rear.

I have changed one of the footwell lights to led but when I change the other both lights go out, think its because theres not enough resistance on the circuit and the car thinks theres a problem so cut power the lights

I did this to my Civic Type R and it look brill! I'm doing it to the S3 when I can be bother to sort it out, gues you'll need resistors...

Shame they arn't the same as the side lights as I got them PIAA ones with built in resistor the other week, they look mint!

andi... are these good LED's that wont blow after few weeks?

I got some last year from some LED website and they only lasted few weeks, and the guy wouldn't reply to any of my emails! :gun2:

I've been looking at buying several bulbs from a crowd called Bimmian.

http://www.bimmian.com/8P

They do the full interior xenon lighting kits (including number plate bulbs) for $32
full interior LED kit (including number plate bulbs) for $64
http://www.interiorxenon.com/pages/IXB/ordering.htm?make=Audi

Invisibulbs - mirrored indicator bulbs, side repeater and xenon reverse lights for $25 a pair (with $10 discount on each additional pair).
http://www.bimmian.com/SOL/8P

Xenon H11 and H7 bulbs at $40 a pair.
http://www.bimmian.com/XEN/8P

HID conversions are $179 a pair.
http://www.bimmian.com/HIR/8P

They mention on their site that they welcome group buys from car clubs so I've emailed them for more info and had a mail back from a dude called Jeremy to say he'll get back to me.

They also mention on their site that these are the last bulbs you'll ever need to buy and come with a lifetime guarantee. I've asked him to clarify what that means, but from reading the site it seems to suggest that they'll replace any blown bulb FOC (you may have to pay postage).

More when I hear more.

Anyone that might be interested in a group buy so I can give him a rough idea of numbers in case he needs them to come up with a price?

probably gonna go for the LED ones along with the front and rear amber invisibulbs and maybe the H11 xenons to go with the PIAA H7s redbutcher is organising.

just waiting for news on a group discount before doing anything more.

on my old A3 I used to have white LEDs for my side lights to go with the xenons but they kept blowing too. Ended up putting 501's back in.

I've looked at these for a while & never moved on them for number reasons from reports I've heard, u need to check they work 100% marcus as alot of people have had issues with led's with dim, or blowing etc with different car systems that monitor bulbs operation, Matt himself has had few issues, I am reluctant to believe they actually have xenon gas inside, most usually are sold as xenon but are usually coated with a colour to give the colour, are they for real?

Best guy I know for lighting is Ian at hids4u.co.uk

Guys sorry and i didint want to turn this into a for sale thread but im new on here as im getting an a3 shortly and couldnt help but notice that i may well be able to help many of you with the products your looking for here.

Just wanted to point out before you consider a groupbuy with biiman in the usa or anyone else for bulbs leds xenons and stuff, i work for a company whom specialises in this stuff customs and one offs too and i can tell you we do mostly the same products but cheaper and were based in the uk which obviously saves alot of headaches.

We can do virtualy any bulb in your car in LED, XENON upgrade etc etc

Heres my sites )

Some of my products may be of interest:-

*Xenon-tec bulbs are just £9.99 a set but i could arrange a groupbuy. Believe me ive tested all the range of piaa`s extortionaly priced bulbs and theyre not a patch on these plasma`s.

*We can do LED sidelights for the audi in xenon white or blue theyre £8.99 a pair and you would need some special capacitors with them on the audi die to on board computer and bulb failure systems (as some of you may have already found out) the capacitors are £8.00 for the pair and come prewired.

*We do xenon HID conversion kits for those who dont already have xenons but want to fit them, these kits we supply again have to be a special one on the audi a3 as the car has on board computers so the cheap standard kits (mad ein far east) dont work properly. These HID pro series kits do work correctly on new audi bmw merc etc(specially made for VAG cars) we sell out at £114.99 usually in a H7 for the a3. But again i could apply groupbuy discounts if enough wanted them.

Groupbuys / discount- Im always keen to run group buys for owners clubs or discount schemes if theres enough interest so please just let me know. :beerchug:

couple of things bumble...

1) do your bulbs come with a lifetime guarantee? (i.e. are they replaced FOC if they blow)

2) we are looking at the PIAA chrome mirror bulbs because they are mirrored, not just to get a whiter bulb. The xenon-tec ones are blue when off which is what we are trying to avoid.

3) The silvertec bulbs are cheaper than the Bimmian ones, but interior ones are not.

4) The interior xenon kit from Bimmian which includes the number plate bulbs is STG£17, whereas from you they are £45-£55 (interior kit @ 25-35 plus two number plate kits @ £20/pair). Even a xenon LED kit from Bimmian including the number plate bulbs is £34.

I'm not doubting that you're selling good stuff, I'm just pointing out that your prices are not necessarily the cheapest. I've heard a lot of good reviews about bimmian and they've been around for quite a while selling BMW accessories. Plus they have that lifetime guarantee.

I'll see what sort of discount Bimmian come back with on a group buy and then we'll see what you can do.

Ok some good point being raised here, its difficult with stuff like this as everyones products vary a little

bimmian are good have some nice stuff too ive no doubt m8, in fact my business partner in canada supplies them with some of there stuff (tailored xenon interior kits so i know ours are the same ones)

Obviously they offer a lifetime warranty which is excellent with bulbs as we all Know bulbs are like tyres they wear out and fail eventually. However returning one bulb to america to claim unnder the warranty and then get a new one back 6 weeks later is a real fuss around and most people would rather not mess around like that (well i know i wouldnt in any case)

To answer you questions:-

1) do your bulbs come with a lifetime guarantee? (i.e. are they replaced FOC if they blow) -
We cant offer lifetime warranty becuase all bulbs burn out theyre designed to afterall. Also we dont charge the earth (xen-tec are just £9.99 rrp oppposed to £40.00 piaa)

This is the reason warranty is less comprehensive obvously.
Warranty:-
12 months on everything we sell.

2) we are looking at the PIAA chrome mirror bulbs because they are mirrored, not just to get a whiter bulb. The xenon-tec ones are blue when off which is what we are trying to avoid.
These are a new bulb which will appear much cheaply over the next six months

3) The silvertec bulbs are cheaper than the Bimmian ones, but interior ones are not.

The prices before were estimated i need to know the exact bulb layout of the a3 (but my car hasnt arrived yet god damn audi)

Bit hard to explain this but the leds included in the bimmian kit are just straight 501 led sidelights, they wont iluminate the number plate properly believe me. I can include these type free of charge if people wanted but to be honest your better off with the 12 led superflux panels (cost £20.00) its the only way to get the number plate to illuminate like the picture i put up (bmw 5 series)

My price: Audi a3 led interior kit (no number plate bulbs) £34.99rrp
Audi a3 interior non led type (With noplate bulbs) £20.00 rrp

(GROUPBUY PRICE CAN BE TRIMMED)

"I'll see what sort of discount Bimmian come back with on a group buy and then we'll see what you can do "

Yea i think thats the best idea m8, thing is with groupbuys i can always trim the prices to accomodate depending on numbers, i have more or less same products but available more or less immediately and im in the uk.

Few points to note:-

*The led number plate lights bimman offer certanly arent the same as the superflux panels we use,

*We cant offer the silver / blue bulbs piaa are doing just yet they brand new out

* The leds we use in out interior kits contain 9 leds in each unit so are very very brick, check with biiman but they may be using a 4 or 6 led less bright version.

*The silver tec bulbs we offer are an absolute bargain

* The leds used from company to company can vary considerabley car to car

*If any one has problems with LEDS in there audi blowing or putting an error on the interior computer we have a special capacitor cure for this so dont worry.
