I got one from Euro Car Parts last week, part number 422 44 0260, fitted and the car is runnig better than ever. They said when they cross checked the part number that it was the one for my car, 2004 2.0 TDI Sport DSG (BKD). Cost 135 plus vat.

Is that because of the IMF ?

As mine doesn't do what yours does and the ACs working fine...

My IMF jams and then starts working again after a bit...

Thanks a mill for that part numb, helped a mill !!

Its 174 from Euro Car parts for a Pierburg Unit? Is that the geniune ones? or an aftermarket one?

I can't get trade or it would have been 160

Or, i can get a genuine one for 130 (no guarantee however).

Which one do i go for?

The decisions is entirely yours, but as for me I was offered a used one for 70 no guarantee but opted for the new Pierburg Unit from Euro Car Parts, which as I have said previously in this post Pierburg are OE manufactures so unit should be good, fitted it to the car, runs great and have had no problems since.

That all tallies with a faulty one, it detects it is jammed - the fuse pops - no signal (no power to it) and fan issue as the fuse also runs the fan controller.

Replacing the fuse will do nothing - you have to replace the flap

    Solved :D

Right..sun was shining and went EuroCP. They ripped me off and charged me 205 but didn't care as i had to get the part in today as otherwise, I'd never do it.

    Firstly i disconnected the battery....

    The part to change:

    Got the part:

Got the part off. Three screws and the hose clip. Also removed the air intake for the air filter and undid the oil dipstick to get better access. To get to the third screw at the back of the IMF, i had to get my aunt to hold down the thick pipe so i could undo it...

Here's the Old Part (really dirty considering a cleaned it a few weeks ago!):

Got the New part in (it came with the rubber seals so didn't have to buy anthing else...thats one of the reasosn i left the EGR valve in as i didn;t want to waste precious pennies on seals! (Im starting Uni Next month!)

There's a seal on the thick black pipe, i changed this when i cleaned it out so didn't see the point of changing it again (3.30 from Audi - whata rip!).

The thick pipe just pushes in. You line up the bits that stick out and push it in and then clip it into position. On my part, the clip doesn't come out but pulls about a cm and then you push it back in when the seals in place.

Changed the F8 Fuse (The red one behind the big relay thing that says 458) - 10amp: (also connected the battery after changing the fuse)

Put all the other bits back on....Took it for a whiz and all the lights went off that came up when i put the battery back on (traction control, steering etc.) went off

    Came back and Vagcomed it.
The Fault codes still came up:

    Bingo :P

Sall sorted out and as for the radio fault code, thats there because i got my aftermarket Alpine in it!

There was also the bulb in the boot which had blown so changed that too..That fault registered on VAGCOM too but once bulb changed and code erased..taht was gone too..

My cars running sweet again with no yellow engine management light (MA). No rough idleing and the turbo sounds different (like its getting more air through it - healthier basically)

    I'm a happy laddy again :D

A Big Thanks to everyone who helped me out on this one! (helping finding the prob, the part, the TSBs, etc.) Thanks guys and you know who you are and seriously guys, i really appreciate it :D

is the part number: 422 440260 definately the one to get from Eurocar parts to replace the manifold flap?

will replacing this solve my problems as in my last vagcom scan?

However, I didn't change the seal on the EGR valve to the manifold which resulted in an air leak which meant the car was juddery at times but once that was changed..all was good.

Just change all the gaskets and all will be ok! The reason i didnt do ti as Audi didnt have it in stock at the time.

And The EuroCarParts part was the geniune so there's been no issues with it and I've done around 600miles and its been a nearly 3 months! (I dont drive a lot do i :S)

I think there is a revised part out now with M at the end instead of the L. Thats the one i got :D

But you've got the same faults as mine and changing the IMF should see that annoying engine management light out!

Got sorted with my Emission light problem and the above faults!

Fitted a brand new throttle body and cleaned teh EGR valve, erased the codes on VAGCOM and voila! So far so good, no emissions light, no ECON mode and the car seems to idle nicer - no judders!

But will keep you up to date!

    thanks

My 2005 Golf GT TDI recently started logging this V157 error and hitting upon this thread, via Google, has been a great help. Following a few weeks gathering information, and today under the bonnet, I thought I give a little back with a summary of my experiences and a few new images.

So ahead of today all the symptoms lined up to a stuck (open) Inlet Valve. My car is running fine (60mpg on my motorway commute) just that troublesome "Emissions Workshop" message, and light, every time I drive. Clearing the single V157 code, via VAGCOM, sees it return immediately I restart the ignition.

In preparation for today I purchased:
    - A can of carb cleaner 4.99
    - New O-ring for between our favourite inlet valve and the EGR valve (VW part no. P AN 909 787 01 - 5FGD05 Seal) 2.50
    - New inlet pipe circlip (VW part no. P A1J0 145 769 G - 5FFC03 Washer) 0.50

I wasn't surprise to find the valve wide open once removed (given I've noticed no performance issues at all). Whilst the insides were caked in a bit of oil and muck - nothing major. So I tried manually moving the valve and it wouldn't budge - locked solid. Tried a bit of WD-40 down the seals - but expected nothing and wasn't proved wrong.

Noticing the cover looked removable (although never looking replaceable :-) ) I thought I might as well have a look inside. A reasonably sized screwdriver and a few seconds later I was looking at this:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...3TnyKPa4OqBYYg

It was then immediately obvious what the failure had been. Notice the crunched gear teeth in this close up:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...0T4HvspwOhdIaQ

So I removed the crushed teeth and everything moves nicely. Obviously the flat spot still means the mechanism is useless, but it's nice to see exactly what the problem was.

It was already Saturday afternoon so no parts now until Monday. Not wishing to tempt fate (and the fact I already know it runs fine wide open) I've refitted the exposed valve (manually set in the open position) and using the original seals since they looked fine.

I plan to head off to Euro Parts on Monday armed with the following information:

    Original Part No. 038-128-063-G
    Latest/Revised Part No. 038-128-063-L
    Euro Parts, Parts No. 422 44 0260

Lastly VW quoted 250+VAT this morning for the new unit so fingers crossed Euro Parts will be able to supply me one for closer to the 150 mark flagged previosuly in the thread....

The latest revised one is 038-128-063-M IIRC. i paid around 200 from EuroCP not trade.

Also, when i was undoing my throttle body, it mvoed the EGR valve a fair bit so it may be worth changing the seal on that to avoid an air leak (as i did). I changed the metall gasket on the side of the egr to be on teh safe side and its defo worth cleaning it all.

i;ve still got my old part, im going to strip it and see the damage on that but it jammed every now and then so im pretty sure its a cog.

I was thinking about this the other day and thought if i could remove the butterfly flap and find a way to turn off the yellow engine managment light, wouldnt you have the same effects as an allard delete pipe?

Euro Car Parts, Part No. 422 44 0260 (stamped 038-128-063-M)
206 inc VAT (Non trade) includes new seal and circlip described previously.

Fitted in an hour (with only two swearing outbursts on the back of dropped bits/tools )

Manually cleared the codes with VAGCOM and all is good

    Hi all,

I'm getting the following VAGCOM error on a 2.0 TDI BKD Golf:

19559 - Motor for Intake Manifold Flap (V157): Malfunction
    P3103 - 000 - -

As this isn't causing a fuse to blow or anything, could this be something different? Is there anything I can check first before forking out for a new part?

    Thanks,

    Colm

Give it a good clean matey and if it still comes back, it will be the IMF.

Do I need new O-rings or gaskets if I don't take the EGR valve off?

I'd advise it! Can cause a lot of probs if they're perished or stretched

I have been reading this thread with interest as over the last few days, apart from my dodgy battery, which I will be replacing in next few days, my car has started its trick of not starting when cold again. It turns over, but doesn't fire or fires only while starter motor is turning.
Now Audi diagnosed a 'distorted seal' on the cylinder head, so I have had the cylinder head and faulty EGR valve changed in September.

As it refused like hell to start on Sunday evening I called Audi Assistance. The guy who came out, just put his foot flat on the accelerator, turned it over, it coughed several times and then started with a huge black cloud from exhaust.

He said that the EGR valve was sticking, (wrote this on the report) but after reading this thread, I am wondering if he meant the IMF is sticking. I have had a quick glance under the bonnet and to me the IMF is a lot dirtier than EGR valve, so I think this wasn't changed by Audi when the EGR was changed.

Has anyone else had difficulty starting their car when their IMF failed? Should I be trying to get mine back into Audi to get this changed before the warranty expires, or am I barking up the wrong tree, and just need to get it back to them for diagnosis?

Did Audi Assiatance not do a diagnostic check?

Get someone near to you to perform one and it should bring up a fault code!

If Audi replaced your EGR valve in september, did it come with warrenty?

No he just started it, stated that he thought the EGR was sticking, and that his mates car did it all the time.

I have Vagcom on my laptop, but I haven't had chance to check it yet this week. When it did this previously though neither Audi Assistance or Audi were able to find anyhing on diagnostics.

As for warranty, although the car is an 05 plate, i have still have 3 weeks of the Extended warranty left. As I bought it in Jan 08.

I just saw this thread when searching for 'EGR sticking' and wondered if this may have actually been the fault to start with. The only thing that goes against it, is that I don't appear to have blown Fuse F8, and I haven't had the emissions light come on.

Replaced the IMF (038 128 063G) at the weekend and car going 100% again...Got the part from Euro Car Parts. It had part no: 038 128 063M...206

Took the old one apart and it had the same problem as dobbing with the crunched gear teeth. Pity you couldn't just replace that gear as I was able to get the cover back on again and crimp it no probs. I'll definitely be lookin into this if it goes again.

    Thanks for all your help.

Got the dreaded V157 P1033 throttle body failure on Sunday. Mines a 2004 with 45000 miles on it.

The original motor had a suffix "G". New part supplied looked identical but had suffix "M".

    Best price I could get was 169.99 plus P&P & VAT = 203 delivered.

In case anyone else needs one, got mine from www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk

Thanks to everyone who's posted earlier providing info on the diagnosis and how to change the part.

I haven't opened up the gears in mine, but given that you could hear the gears crunching as you turned off the engine and the flap tried to close, I suspect it looks just like the pictures above...

I have the same problem at the moment. You will notice a nasty shuder on shut down where the flap doesnt close and the engine is given no fuel and a lot of air causing the shudder. I am trying to get the improved part direct from my mate at VW. If its too expensive though I have a warranty on the car which I took out with warranty direct that will be used so that Audi can do it for me for the sum total of 50
