    Spacers Question

    Hi All,
    Just about to order some spacers from Damian but has anyone found they take the wheels out of balance or wear the wheel bearings?. I am on std suspension and intend to go 10 mm potentially...
    Porsche 997 Carrera 4 S - Black, Sport Chrono, Sport seats, PCM, Nav, Tel, Park assist and rear wiper (Yes!, its an option!)
    2012 Audi Q7 Sline Plus - Daytona Grey ,Nav+, Wheel upgrade, Storage and tow pack.

    Gone -2007 S5 4.2 ,2008 S3, 2007 TTC 3.2, 2007 RS4 Saloon, 2004 S4 Saloon, 2006 A4 2.0T Sline SE,2002 A3 3.2 Sline, 2001 A4 1.8T,2001 Boxster, 1983 911SC,1992 Corrado G60,1988 GTi.

    Demian. Im still in possesion of these 10mm 8l spacers. Saw your car on Sunday, adn looked out for you, we asked about but no idea where you were, i also trawled around looking for a stand, but it appeared u didnt have one.

    What do you want to do with them???

    My steering wheel wobbles a bit at high speed... somtimes, which is weird. You'd expect to either wobble, or not. but its intermittant. I think the surface affects it.

    I get that also , i think it's more to do with the balance of the wheel , having spacers on will make it " feel " out more than what it actully is.

    Yeah, its not major, just vibrations coming through the wheel, which im sure werent there before. I certainly didnt have any through France (2500miles)

    Just a quick question: Would fitting ET45 wheels get the equivalent effect of 11mm spacers on each wheel?

    Are all your spacers hub centric as I've always had hub centric & never had any wobbling etc on my S3, S4 & A3, does really come down to manufacturing quality at end of day no??

    Mine are H&R Hubcentric. Im pretty sure P's are too.

    Now correct me if I'm wrong but not neccessarily, I think wheel width would play in this aswell as ofset but usually a bigger ofset tends to denominate a wider wheel anyway people no??

    I believe I think Damien at DPM would be best to ask on that.

    Yeah the wheel width plays a big part too, let me try and explain it.

    Say you had 7.5x18 wheels with an ET45 and you went up tp 8.5x18 wheels with an ET45, straight away the wheels would stick out 1/2" more, 1" wider wheel so 1/2" on the inside and 1/2" on the outside.

    You then put 10mm spacers onto these new wheels, you then have the 1/2" or 12.5mm plus the 10mm spacer so that would give you 22.5mm further out then the standard 7.5x18 wheels originally where.

    I get exactly the same thing, at around 80ish.

    Actually its kind of as I expected and its put me off. My commute 3 times a week is a 180 mile rmotorway roundtrip sat at 80!... Given that wheels often have like 1g or 2 g weights on them, i think spacers would need to be manufactured in perfect conditions and be balanced themselves to be spot on ?..

    Maybe I'm being thick but if its hubcentric spacers that are perfect fit & the wheels fit perfectly on the spacers how can this create the issue, just for my own curiosity, Damian@dpm maybe you could help us on this one no?

    Whats chance of someone taking spacers of & testing without see if goes, I could understand with universal spacers that arent lathed to fit perfectly on hub but not ours that are centric

    They are not a " perfect " fit or they wouldn't go on. they are slightly bigger to fit on the hub.

    There fine for day to day , and giving it a good thrashing , but if i wasdoing a track day i'd take them off.

    Sorry but I disagree, if they were bigger then they wouldnt be hub centric in other words would move about on the hub itself like a universal spacer, that is after all the reason why the are called hub centric no, so they sit on the car hub centrally, dont know about yours but mine were not bigger they are just the inversed of the hub fitting so they fit together like a glove in other words the phrase "perfect fit" , but if we are getting down to semantics like mm measurements I guess your opinion would be true but I dont think we're that pedantic are we??

    Anyway back on cue, anyone able to take there's of & test without to see if it goes away, mine have never had these issues & they were all "hub centric" & this was on an 8L S3, B6 S4 avant & then the A3 8P which were removed as to wide for the arches so rubbed, just gotta stick FSD's on 1st & then check widths can get away with.

    Well yeah i'am being pedantic , but not to you or anybody.

    We are only talking slight vibrations and three of us have it and we all have " H&R hub centric spacers " so the small tolerances i'm/we are talking about do make a difference.

    There's a thread from a while back , where somebody was saying that the MTM hub centric spacers are a better/tighter fit than the H&R's , but there 110 a pair inc bolts so maybe worth it?

    Well maybe you should chat with the guy I get from cause I can say hand on heart they fit abolutely perfectly & not once had wobbling, actually tell a lie I did slightly when I was trying not to spill my wine glass, lol, seriously they were great on my S4 & when tested on my A3 they were just as good, they fit so well they just sat on the hub without even having to hold in place when fitting the wheel, now thats a good fit no?? I even had to wedge them of when removing thats how good they were in terms of fitment, I had MTM on my S3 for while & they just fell of & had to be held in place, not these ones.

    I think one thing to bear in mind is that spacers exagerate any poor wheel balancing..... maybe thats what myself, L6ON and Phantom are seeing.....?
    I'm going to remove mine and un some tests tomorrow....

    I'd have to agree.

    Hubcentric wheel spacers won't make your wheels to be out of balance, although, and this is the thing to remember, they may create a more noticeable effect if your wheels were already slightly out of balance.

    We have 10mm H&R spacers on the back of our S3 with 8.5x18 wheels and coming back from GTI last weekend i felt no wheel wobble and no vibrations because of the wheels being out of balance and that was at 'similar' speeds to 80 mph.
