    Shell Fuel dispute

Managed to get my usual V-Power top today up no problem.

Is it a storm in a teacup or is it coming?

I don't know but the media don't exactly help do they? They sensationalise everthing to the point of making everybody feel they should rush out and get petrol before it all runs out - which of course would empty all the stations if there were no supply problems at all...

Bit like a run on a bank...

Government and the media are abit silly, the government knows there will be a fuel shortage yet they announce it to the mass media to tell people not to panic buy. So what would more likely to cause mr average to panic buy fuel? Knowing nothing about the fuel shortage or reading massive 'FUEL SHORTAGES' headline from tabloid newspaper?

Already I only have 2 V-Power outlets within 15 mile, but at the same time I want the protesters to make a difference.

Cake and eat it I suppose.....

Hopefully it won't effect me too much. I off to Germany and Switzerland for two weeks on Sunday and I already have enough diesel in my tank to get me to the Channel Tunnel. Once in Europe diesel is also much cheaper!

So, you might go without a tankful of V-power for a week (although unlikely). Get a grip people!

I thought the Government's strategy was actually rather clever. Promulgate a 'don't panic' message a few days before the strike secure in the knowledge this will make many do exactly the opposite. This then enables tankers to refill the stations before the strike starts reducing the likelyhood of shortages when it's underway. As I've posted previously, psychology is a powerful tool when employed wisely.

I Know that not everyone has that much money, but i find it incredible that the companies think that the way to relieve the queues and the problem with pumps running dry is to issue a maximum spend on fuel of something like 10.
As far as I am aware, thats exactly the problem, go to the garage and people are queueing up to put 5 of fuel in their car. Most of the time is spent in the queue to get to the pump, then again waiting to pay. 5 will get you about 50miles, so these people are probably wasting half that as they drive round in the search for 'cheap' petrol.

Storm in a tea cup deffo.. but some people.

Good sized queue outside the Ilford Tesco petrol station on Friday, where there was a police presence to make sure that people were only buying 20 litres and not trying to fill up jerry cans, water bottles etc with additional petrol/diesel.

    A bit OTT IMO..
