    AirCon question.

My aircon has supposedly been killed by a stone causing Ł745 to replace car is not even a year old & under 7k miles.

I would not have thought that Audi would make somthing so easly broken by a stone that costs Ł745 to fix everytime.

Has this happened to anyone else?

You need to be more specific Kitsch. What is being replaced??

A compressor costs about that much, is it that?

This would be covered by your insurance, would it not?

I would have thought that insurance would cover that - subject to your excess.

Does seem like a lot of damage by a stone.

The problems with air con faults is that if you want to replace a part you have to do a full recovery, replace the part, vacuum the system down and then recharge it. The vacuuming alone can take a couple of hours (depending on the size of your house of course).

Very funny - thing is the recovery (if there is anything left to recover) vacuum down and recharge is automatic on most systems these days.

I would be tempted to get a quote from a local aircon specialist too.

It's not fully automatic. So there's still some labour to pay for, not to mention the labour for replacing the part itself. Also the system integrity may still be ok so you'd have to do a full recovery in that case.

If you're doing a deep vac the car is sat in the workshop for 2 hours with the recovery equipment being used just on that one car and someone has to keep checking it to see how far along the process it is. How much do they charge for that? It's an automatic process but you can't expect them to do it for free.
