Brief review of common rail 2.0 TDI 170

I read that too, sounds promising all they need to do now is give it some more power to match the quattro drive train.

Hello,

Can you please clarify for me....
I have just taken delivery of my new Tdi 170 Sportback three weeks ago (and love it!)

This can was a special order and was manufactured in the third week of Feb 2008.

Does this have the common rail motor?

No, that will be the old PD engine.

The new 170 CR engine has only just come out. It can be ordered for the TT now, but not for the A3 until November (at least in Europe, anyway).

The PD 170 is a bit of a hybrid however. It has the piezo injectors of a common rail design, but still has the mechanical camshaft driven fuel pumps of the older PD engines. A true CR engine has a very high pressure electric fuel pump feeding all cylinders via a common chamber (hence the term 'common rail').
