How to put new Gearstick on DSG Box

Hey Guys,

Im look at changing the top part of my gear stick on my dsg box. I was done out of the perforated holed stick which should be on all S-Line A3 DSG's and got the plain leather one on sport models. Its currently on Vagparts.co.uk for £48
Air leather auto shift knob A3 (8P model)

Can anyone tell me how to release the old top half of the knob and insert the new one?

Is it easy?

Any answers would be most appreciated.

I can post some illustations and instructions from the electronic workshop manual.

Does yours have the leather gaiter or the old metal slide cover?

Gd question. Umm basically my car is not the one with the big old clunky piece of metal surrounding the knob. Its the most upto date refined version. 2006 A3 2.0TDI S-Line DSG or S-Tronic. Whatever floats your boat!

Right. In that case these should be the instructions you need:

selector with boot 1
selector with boot 2
selector with boot 3

If you need anything more, let me know.

H5DJR you are a star mate!
Looks a lot of hassle tho in my opinion. May just leave it as it is before i make a hash of it. lol
Thought there would be a simple release button somewhere to release old one and pop new one in! Oh well...!
