Also, today went to Park Lane BMW to see in flesh the Coupe... they did not have one and the lady had a certain attitude towards me that I did not like... That won;t stop me if I want a car but I will make sure she does not get the commission....

As you all now I am on the market for a small diesel car like an A3 or a Volvo C30, keeping the S3 of course... Like that I can have a left hand drive S4 for Portugal and would have a diesel hatch to drive in the UK...

Today I just thought that maybe if I trade in my S3 I could get a fast diesel that would do them both so I just though 3 series coupe and went there just to have alook... 335D def not, don't like autos so 330D is an option...

Good thing is that they part exchange my S3 even if it is a lefthand drive... I would be ripped off of course but..

In the end I am in no rush and maybe nothing will happen but the coupe is growing on me I actually like it.

    Enough said... Audi forum back

I might be about to show my age, but does anyone remember an Audi ad of yesteryear (1980s probably) where a guy in red braces turns up in his BMW at an Audi dealer and goes for a test drive in an Audi. During the test drive he is cursing other road users beeping the horn at all and sundry and shouting share deals into his mobile. At the end of the road test the guy says to the dealer "nah, sorry mate, it's just not me". The dealer smiles knowingly to himself and the guy goes back to his Beemer, still shouting into his mobile.

Don't know what bought that to mind in the middle of this thread

I almost bought a BMW last week, infact I had a deal on a BMW direct 325d, then fortinatly the dealer "lost" the car, they said HQ had sold it twice!

So I then went and tried a 320d - great car, but fortinatly Bowfer helped me out greatly. He told me via a thread that BMW were offering upgrades on specs 1000 for an M Sport upgrade . ........ that sounded alarm bells.
The 3 series is changing this year, as with all manuafacturers - including audi - they're running out the model.

It was enough to make me think residuals ...... so I changed my mind.

    Cheers Bowfer

Since when did this become an Audi owner only site for those too short sighted to hold views on other makes of car?

The post was clearly titled...if you don't like the sound of it, why waste bandwidth replying?

Once upon a time this site was populated by enthusiasts. Not just Audi enthusiasts...but car enthusiasts in general and discussions regarding other makes were a good thing...as opposed to now where it seems that the corporate 4 ringed blinkers are down and no other maker is as good.

That's a sad and shortsighted view, populated by those who love to hide behind the badge snobbery associated with Audi drivers of late..and with owners opinions like that, I'm pleased I sold mine.

And on the subject of Chavs...how many D3s do you know of that are scraping their sumps 'cos they've been 'slammed on coillies' and have the usual overly large exhaust/wheel & tyre combination in a typical well-off-Chav stylee?

    And how many Audis?
    Especially A3s?

    Chav eh?
    Look again...

I never mentioned anything about being sad, just strikes me as a bit Aberdonian that's all.

    Interesting...can you explain that?

I just like noising Aberdonian BMW drivers up for the sake of it because I am a Glaswegian Audi driver. Childish I know. Sorry.

I can only assume you've read the post wrong.
    I wasn't suggesting the A3 is a 'lesser' car.
I was suggesting the driver of an A3 isn't best placed to say another car's styling is unimaginative and dull.
    I think that's fair comment.
I'll take the driver of a 159 telling me my 3-series looks dull, but I'll openly laugh at an A3 driver telling me the same.
They're both pretty dull mate, it's like arguing your BHS slacks are nicer than M&S ones.

So you accept it's my opinion but then say i'm in no position to have one? I'm sorry but the more you talk, you just sound plain thick. You don't listen, you have no tolerance of differing opinions, you're a bit of a bigot and an internet forum where open discussion is encouraged is clearly beyond your grasp. Have i come on here and told you to stick your garish alpina up your ass and f**k off? No, i joined your discussion and gave an educated opinion as a former BMW owner. I even said it looked a nice enough car and good value....So what's your problem? Seriously, have a look at yourself.
As a designer by profession i'll sure as hell give my opinion on the design of a car if i want to.

On that note, my A3 in my opinion is a better car in every respect than my old 325ci. I'm not asking you...I'm telling you, so save your comments.
Before buying my A3, i test drove a couple of new shape 320i M-Sport models (petrol, i don't do diesel - i don't commute far so have no desire to save a few quid) and they were nothing more than OK. DEFINITELY not a superior car to the A3 in any way. Pretty sluggish engine, felt very basic, not particularly sporty, styling didn't feel solid and 'quality' enough to me and i was just left thinking...not much car for the money. Incidently the 3 series was the same price as the A3 with maybe a few more extras to boot.

Your ignorant, childish comment regarding 'an A3 owner shouldn't be making comments on Alpina styling' made me chuckle. Audi tweak the styling of it's S-line, S and RS models in a very effortless, and mostly subtle fashion. No one else does it in quite the fashion that audi do. It suits my taste, it's not obvious and it's tasteful. Because of this i find pinstripes, 90's style alloys, air splitters, ridiculous walnut dash's etc etc outdated and just make alpinas look like a wide-boy's motor. My opinion and i'm entitled to it.

Hope that cleared things up for you...and now i'm done. Before you even consider replying or quoting anything i just wrote. Get your brain in gear, find some tolerance for other opinions, think and then type for once.

    Good day.

P.S. Sorry to other users for Bowfers threads always becoming an argument...Funny that isn't it? Go figure...

3 series hasn't been stylish for years, and when are they going to stop glueing that chrome moustache on the front.
Find me a hatchback that's more stylish than nicely specced A3? Alfa's may come close but they terrible so they are out.

What do you want on an A3 to make it more imaginative? fins, portholes, bonnet ornaments, bangle flame styling? Less is more I say.

I own an S3 , but I have no problem in saying that they are probably one of the dullest looking hatchbacks around , just in my opinion obviously, before I get stoned to death by the people that dont appear to like it if someone says something negative about something with 4 rings on it.

Lets get this straight, nothing is perfect and every car on earth will split opinion. A mate of mine had an A4 and it was a bag of ****e, constantly in the garage. I'm no Audi-phile. There's fault in every brand.
The opposite to the S3 in hot hatch styling terms is probably the Honda Civic Type R. So if the S3 is dull i whole heartedly admit to being 'dull'.

Personally, I find the A3 a tad bland.
Understated perhaps...fantastically well built and nice enough to drive..just lacking in imagination.
The S3 even more so after the 8L...but these are personal views.

I preferred the early 8P A3s before the silly goatee beard grille...

Again, personally, I think Audi have lost the plot styling wise...the new A4 isn't sucessful to my eyes, the previois one was more awkward than the one before...around 2001-2002 it wasa truly pretty car...now, not so much.

I'm not a fan of the current styling direction...

Can't argue with the interiors, or the general build quality...

Does this get me burned too?

Hell, I criticised the 8L S3 a lot...which many didn't like...I still bought one though as it suited my needs...but I didn't get overly defensive of aggressive just because others didn't like it.

I don't care what others thing of my choices...it's a pity others don't hold a similar view.

The S3 even more so after the 8L...but these are personal views.
Look at S3izzo's signature, and say it looks bland.

I don't think you're getting to the heart of the issue here (not with the vast majority at least) - I don't think the majority of people here are blinkered towards the Audi brand at all and you are well entitled to your opinion on Audis just as much as the next guy is entitled to his or her opinion of Alpina (in this case)

The main gripe seems to be in relation to Aplina/BMW post in this section of the forum. Whilst I agree the thread is titled as a BMW post and nobody has to read it but then i'm sure you would agree it would make a tidy forum if it was in the forum setup for other makes. Either way this has all turned very petty.

I have to admit the S3 is a little bit on the boring side, would be nice to have more flared arches for example, and 19" alloys would be a nice option to have from the factory. I find the new RS6 is pretty boring too.

I love the R8 styling (not the diesel one though), although I have to admit it did take me a very long time for it to grow on me, really didn't like it when I first saw it.

I agree. That and the silly matching centre to the steering wheel.

But I like just about everything else about the A3 so I have to live with the bits I don't like as well.

Even i'd admit that's it's duller than dishwater to look at, but is it well built and mildly entertaining to drive at a price I could afford - yes..hence the reason I own one

Have to agree they are boring & understated to look at, but when I bought mine I was choosing between mk4 R32 & my current 3.2 A3 and the understated looks is the main reason I went for it, having owned a scooby & various GTI`s before I wanted something that when out on the road every boy racer & chav monkey in town didnt notice and want to either race you or f**k you over & nick-so for me I like the boring look-I am getting old though!!!

Firstly there are other A3 owners on here that have expressed an interest in the D3 and Bowfer did, until last monday, drive one. So I dont really think there is a major issue posting about it in here. Yes technically speaking it should be in the other brands section.

Thing is where does moving posts to their correct sections end...I can move them of course but it means any quesitons relating to tyres, vag-com, suspension, cleaning, fuel, what remap to have, trips abroad etc etc

This place is pretty laid back, occasionally tempers flair but most of the time it's a good place to post. Most have a good sense of humour and there is a decent bit of banter.
