What car have you LEAST enjoyed

Obviously from recent threads some would say their A3 but what about those of you who happen to like your A3. What is the worst or least enjoyable car you have owned and why?

I'll start the ball rolling by admitting that I once owned a Triumph Dolomite. This was back in 1975 when cars were no where near as well made as they are today. It was not bad to look at and the interior was very pleasant, but the reliability was something else. It only had two fuses covering the whole of the electrics on the car. When I collected my nice shinny new car I managed to get about a mile down the road and switched the button on the gear stick to engage overdrive. Suddenly everything stopped working. I walked back to the garage - no mobile phones in those days - and they picked up the car. It turned out that the wire from the overdrive switch just dangled out of the bottom of the gear stick and had got caught and snapped thus blowing one of the two fuses. This happen a number of times after that and I just carried a box of fuses.

After that it just went downhill. The ride was very shaky as high speed and it eventually turned out to be that the alloy wheels were not completely round!. That car spend as much time at the dealers as being driven by me. And in those days the dealers were less than useful. No loan cars or other such luxuries.

I got so cheesed off with it that I changed it after a year for a brand new Mk1 VW Golf. What a difference. Nothing mechanical went wrong that Golf in the 4 years I had it. The only problem was some rust on the bottom of the doors and the tailgate and the dealer got a VW engineer to have a look and he agreed for it all to be repaired at no cost to me and that was before any warranties on bodywork or painting.

Although I've looked at and tested numerous cars since then I have always stuck with VAG products.

02 plate, Golf TDI tip-tronic, company car. Thought I'd scored the day I started work and got that. I was a tip inside though and clearly whoever had it for the 20k before me didnt care about it.

Long story short, off the road for 4 months of the 2 years I had it with tiptronic and turbo issues... drove like I was sitting on a sofa and had zero feeling... i hated that car and its put me off VW for ever...

    so I got an Audi!?

You know how I feel about my A3, so I'll save the bother on that one.
Aside from that, I was given a 1.4 Golf as a company car once.
VW were doing SE Golf's, at the time.
They looked like a Gti, and you could get 1.4 or 1.8 versions.
I asked for the 1.8, the MD cocked up and ordered the 1.4
I've never driven anything so slow in my life.
At the time, I was doing a 15 mile commute, cross country.
I hated that car, I just hated it.
It got to the stage where I handed the keys back to the MD and told him I was sorry, I just wasn't prepared to drive it any more and I wanted out.
He immediately ordered me a dragon green Golf 2.0Gti, which I loved.
I also had a Rover 220Gti, which used to drain it's battery at a moment's notice, so you had to park on hills.
That was a pain, but it's one of the best handling cars I've ever had, so I forgave it.

MGF - I think I was having an early mid life crisis, hair line started to receed so bought a 2 year old bright red one - hated it. It leaked with the roof up which was fixed under warranty, numerous electrical faults followed all fixed under warranty, I also felt a bit camp in it, cut my losses and sold it/px after 10 mths, bought my first Mk4 Golf GTI about then in 2001 and have enjoyed 6 VAG cars since with no issues with the exception of minor stuff on the wifes Jetta which ahs been fixed under warranty. To date my Audi ownership experience - 2 x A3 2.0 TDI, 1 x A4 2.0 TDI and the current S3 has been faultless and enjoyable if not a little expensive.

    toss up between an E46 M3 and a a 172 clio

sold a E30 M3 sport evo and was on the hunt for a 911 but found the E46 at a knock down price for a 18 month old car - too good an opportunity to pass up

the first week I had it I drove London - Newcastle - London for a business meeting

I couldn't walk from the back pain and the steering in comparison to the E30 was dire - I sold it after 3 weeks as I just didn't 'get' it, it pretty much drove itself

the clio was a replacement for a 205 1.9 that was parked on by a tipper truck - the brakes had no feel, the dash lights flashed on and off at will, it would pogo over bumps (when it didn't crash over them) and it continually pissed out power steering fluid despite being fixed - plug one hole it would find a way out somewhere else

    pfft, amateurs.

When my Astra GTE was nicked I needed something cheap whilst waiting for my FTO to arrive from Japan.

Seat Ibiza 'Designer' 900cc. Had it over an incredibly hot summer and it used to overheat a lot. Only way to mitigate it was to put the heater on full blast

I've not really had a bad car, I've now had 30 plus of the damn things.

All done what they said on the tin without any real hiccups but I did have two exceptionally boring cars

1st was a w reg toyota avensis 1.8 vvt, Reliable very tinny, plasticy and boring to drive, had to keep it three months as my wife wasn't happy with me changing cars so quickly, if it was up to me I'd have traded it or sold it after a week.

2nd Nissan Primera 1.8 02 reg...God I hated that dashboerd and stereo setup, kept it one week...lol

I had one of these. It was my first brand new VW and I was thrilled, I was ready to burst by the time it arrived. However, proof positive that Friday/Monday cars are still made. Everything went wrong on that car. I was on first name terms with the service department at Gilders for all the wrong reasons.

It was on contract hire over 3 years and it was so bad and I kicked up such a stink with VW that after 18 months they swapped it for another brand new one.

Well really it has to be my MG Metro Turbo - was great for the first few months of ownership but then just fell apart !

Mountings, suspension, head gaskets, gearbox, rust, etc etc - I spent a frigging fortune keeping that heap of British sh*t running.

We have come a long way since the cars of the 80's !

Going back a few years I had an Austin Allegro. I was relieved when it snapped the front tie bar mounting as I could finally scrap it!.
Come to think of it, I've had a lot of crap cars, the pick of the bunch were
A Mini that was snapping in half,
XR3i mk3 that had rusted it's roof rails off and used a gallon of oil in the month that I owned it. I only bought the car as I liked the janspeed exhaust that it had. It failed the MOT on the exhaust anyway!
    XR3i Mk4 that turned out to be 2 XR3i's
Nissan Silvia Turbo that went through 2 engines, 2 gearboxes and 3 turbos.

Also going back a while but had to drive British Leyland cars for a few years and I can honestly say they were all total rubbish. The Allegro, Princess, Dolomite and Marina (got my feet wet if I drove it in the rain) were all shockers but the worst of the worst was the TR7. Before you ask why I went for a TR7... I was seduced by the pop up headlamps and the exquisite red tartan interior!

If i had to pick one even though I've had a Truimph Acclaim,VW polo, Honda VTI's & Type R's and then a rush of Audi's. It would be my Quattro Sport TT.

The idea of it on paper was great. Stripped out, extra BHP over 225 and strut brace over the back. Yip went like stink and cornered great but after 11 months of it i suddenly grew tired of it.
The obvious here being stripped out meant more noise that i got fed up with. Jostled the hell out of my spine. Got fed up slinging myself in and out of the seats as it was so low. Always was pulling to the left. Audi wanted 400 to correct. And finally after washing one day i spotted rust bubbles on roof line to door frame. Could have got it done under warranty but felt i would never be comfortable with that so it had to go. It was a blast to drive but it was what it was a toy that had some burst stitching and too hard to live with. The one great memory was roasting it up to the Isle of Skye and back on some fantastic roads and seeing lots of cars disappearing in my rear view mirror with tardis like speed.

The most dangerous car I ever drove was a mini with the back end chopped off and castors fitted. The old motorbike petrol tank strapped over the engine was reassuring, Luckily it was nearly impossible to get it up to a speed where a crash could be too harmful !

The most disappointing car I have owned was my MCS. I spent about a year trying to find a replacement for my then 18month old Golf Gti 1.8T. Due to budget constraints ( I had around £17-18K) it had to be reliable and reasonably cheap to run (hot hatch kinda cheap) as I needed it to cover about 35K miles a year. So it had to be new or nearly new. So after spending 6 months looking and test driving various cars I test drove a mini cooper S. Wow I thought, perfect. Drove it for an hour and a half and loved it. Booked another extended test drive a week later. After this test drive I placed my order.

Picked the car up 6 months later, had it for two weeks and realised I had made a massive mistake.

I had made a deal with, my now wife, Claire that I would replace her Mx5 with a Mr2 roadster before I changed the golf but it took a little longer to find a Mr than planned as they where all kicked (even though we were looking for a 2 year old example) so the mini came before the Mr2.

When I mentioed that I hated the MCS and wanted to shift it she threatened me with my goolies if I didn't get her a new car before replacing mine.

After 2 more months searching for a good mr2, I had upped the budget of her car so that we could look at year old exmples, I was so desperate to get rid of the mini that I bought Claire a brand new mr2 so I could change the mini. Bought a mkIV R32 to replace it and loved every minute of it.

So while the MCS might not be the worst car I have ever owned it was definately my least favourite.

I've had a range of company cars for most of my 55 years, everything from an Escort to a BMW, and for their day all were fine.
The one I liked least when I started paying for them, was my black 3 door Rav4. The heater didn't work on collection (they'd fitted a CD changer for me and obviously pulled a wire!) but other than that it was reliable, solid and quite nippy, but as somebody else said of a Toyota, it was just so boring.

One of my fastest was probably my company 2.0i MG Montego - I can still remember the pull of the steering wheel if you accelerated too much on a bend or rounabout.

My Sportback is only the 7th car I've owned in nearly 14 years of driving, and I suppose the worst was a 950cc B-reg Fiesta while a student (I'm always amazed when I see Audi-owning students posting on this forum given the transport I could afford at the time).

With around 40bhp it was helplessly slow; I remember driving up the South Downs on my way to see a mate on the south coast, hammering it in 2nd gear in the crawler lane of a 60mph-limit road while the traffic flew past. And on long motorway journeys it would develop an airlock in the fuel tank so every hour or so you'd have to stop, open the fuel cap to let some air in, and then go again.

    Happy days really

MG ZT 190, courtesy car whilst my S4 was in the detailers! Slow, heavy, ugly, uncomftable, and all round hard work!

Oh dear Toyota Carolla no idea what mark it was, the grandad one with brown interior F reg i think. Wierd engine size 1.5 i think with an odd number of valves. 4 headgaskets later fobbed it off to a dealer in part ex for a 306 xdt which did me proud ... well it would after that piece of utter **** wouldn't it.

I was seduced by the pop up headlamps and the exquisite red tartan interior!

LOL!! Same reason I bought a 1986 Celica, gotta love pop up's

My first car was a 1.2 V reg Opel Corsa. Had that for 3 years then sold it for a 1.6 51 plate Vauxhall Astra. That car was my least favourite! It was just so damn boring to drive!!! Dont get me wrong, it was reliable. Took me on a 2000+ mile road trip from Lands End to John O'Groats with no problems at all. It was boring as sin! Had no life or character in it at all... So sold it after a year and got my A3. Currently the best car I've owned!
