    Wink Mod Friendly Insurance Companies??

Need to sort my insurance out over the next week and I'm just wondering what companies people out there have got with their mods declared. Main ones for me are tints, remap, coilovers, 19"s...

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    N8.

    Hi mate

Simple answer is, there isn't any!

You will get spanked where ever you go, I declared suspension as a test on my forthcoming S3, the price more than doubled, and did this on Confused, and Go-compare, so most companies covered.

Also tried the like of Adrian Flux etc, all reddddiccculous prices.

    Good luck

    Cheers

Yes there is. Greenlight - http://www.greenlightinsurance.com/i...allyMeanSounds

put in www.reallymeansounds.com in the "are you a member of any clubs" - they will email you a quote

I got quoted £750 from them (I live in NI remember - higher insurance) and I declared everything from my remap to amplifier

however my current insurance company (ireland only) beat them and covers me TPFT on other vehicles

Greenlight never seem to fill me with confidence when I'm talking to them. Other brokers to try are Adrian Flux (previously mentioned but competitive for me) and Chris Knott. I've got both our cars insured with Chris Knott. The wife's hasn't got mods anymore but they were still cheaper than Direct Line and all those fools. Take off the 'voluntary excess' that DL etc add and they're no better than anyone else.

There's no point discussing actual prices because everyone's circumstances are different.

I used go compare and got a quote with no mods. Esure were the cheapest but didn't appear to be mod friendly so wasn't going to go with them as was considering a remap. They then called me and asked if I wanted to take up the quote so I mentioned my concern and asked how much extra with a remap. They spoke to the underwriters and came back with a quote only 75 more than as standard.

    550 for remapped S3 - I'm happy with that

Adrian Flux who I was with before wanted 900 standard. Noel Dazely who covered my modded TT wanted 850 remapped. - Both were supposed to be mod friendly

Greenlight will not insure cars over 30K, so if you have a new S3 spec'd up forget it.

First Insurance Co. that i have come accross who put such a low limit on their insurance.

    Oh well

I'm with greenlight, I pay £480 for my sportback it doesn't have any mods at the minute but they will be declared with the golf which was the same basic car but with remap and other bits I paid £480, the excess on the A3 has gone up though.

I've not had a problem yet, my cabby is with HIC and they are cheap, £150 fully comp limited mileage policy.

just to show how stupid insurance companies are, with elephant i got my renewal through£1427 for 10 months. i then went online, and for the same car, everything declared same everything, except i increased the vallue of the car the quote was £1005. i have taken it over the full 12 months so i am paying 1127. how do they justify prices, this just proves that it is completely random. its like they make a random figure up. anyway, i think my last quote was pretty reasonable seeing im only 20 and the amount of mods i have. if it was standard it owuld be 650 quid. cheers guys, mark

Every insurance company is obviously different and you will get quotes with huge differences, I remember declaring a set of OZ alloys on my old RS4 and the insurance company wanted an extra £600 from me, I had gone to another company and they covered it at no extra cost. I also have a 590 brake 996 Turbo that I also use for the track and have declared all mods and I get track day cover also all for a total of £890.00, what I done was take photos of the vehicle with all visual mods and note down all engine mods and put everything in writing/pics to the insurance underwriters that way they have everything in Black and White and you also have peace of mind knowing that you are fully covered, they seem to like that.
I just think talking to some insurance companies over the phone regarding modifications on vehicles sometimes causes confusion and the poor person doesn't have a clue what they are declaring.
If you get a good quote, get it in writing!

It may sound strange but I found Direct line the cheapest and even asked them for a quote with a remap and they have a set chart they use depending on % increase in power. They were the cheapest with and without a remap. I even got an additional discount as my wife has a policy with them.

Simon, my Good lady is also with Direct Line.

You are correct, most insurance companies are now working on how much additional power is made this way it's easy to calculate

lol, wonder how they would get a write off on the Dyno to check though, lol

Adrian Flux have been my broker for years they are mod friendly as long as you tell them.

Sky insurance is another good one and are interested in club members as they specialise in modded and performance cars, google for their number
Skint because of my car, the forums made me do it
