Why I like Not Driving My S3!

    Hi,
Just thought that I would let you know why I like not driving my 8P S3 all of the time!!
I don't use it for going to work as teach in a secondary school and only last week one of the "little dears" ran a key along the flanks of 3 cars in the car park. Instead I use a Clio 1.2 with the slow 8V engine and so the S3 only comes out to play for evenings and weekends.
I have been really busy for the last few weekends and so the S3 has remained locked away. Today I was supposed to be doing the garden and my wife had taken the children out for the day as nobody had wanted to help me!!
The sun was shining and I thought forget the garden, there is always tomorrow, time to get out Sid the S3.
I always let him warm up thoroughly and have a look at the oil temp before any right foot action.
70 miles later and Sid is back in the garage. A thrash a long quick A and B roads is what the S3 is all about. The Clio is running out of puff at 3000 rpm but the S3 is just getting going. Amazing power all the way up to the red line with that gruff deep exhaust note. I am still very impressed with the way it pulls in 6th gear let alone the lower ones. I never give it full beans in 1st or 2nd, I value the tyres too much but it is still like a rocket in 3rd. I can only imagine what a remap must be like.
So there you have it, if you get the chance to drive summat slow for a while do it and then get back in the S3 again. You will remember why you bought it in the first place. Sophisticated, well put together and a very swift motor when you want it to be.
    Cheers prt57

I'm looking forward to the day I own an S3. I was heart broken when they stopped production for a while!

I only have a MKV GTI sadly not an S3 yet - but I occasionally drive my girlfriends 206, and boy is it nice to get back in the GTI, know exactly where you're coming from. Nice to fully appreciate what you have sometimes

Thats a long time to wait for an S3! I'm not getting one yet. Always loved them tho. Got myself a TDi 170 S Line in October. Was waiting since July. Waiting for an S3 must be even better! (or worse depending on how you look at it lol) Still a student so doubt I'll be able to foot the fuel bills! lol One day tho. Still keeping my fingers crossed for an RS3!

I too save the S3 for best/fun. The wife has got a old Renault Kangoo van for work , and TBH we spend more time in that.

Last week we went to buy a puppy , it was in a very rough area of Manchester so we went in the Kangoo.

Im a DJ and only one of my gigs do i take the S3 coz it wont get noticed with all the DB9, M5s , ect around , better to be safe than sorry IMO , and the miles are not going on the S3 LOL

Use trains, buses for my daily commute so most of my driving is done at the weekends.. and the S3 just takes it to another level .

As Nutkins said, good to appreciate what you have.

I drive the wifes 2.0tdi DSG and although remapped to 180 it still feels slow in comparison, I find I keep checking the handbrake to ensure it's off.

To be fair the 2.0tdi is fast once on the move but no match for the S3.

Does it not work out as a very expensive toy in effect if it only gets used now and then? I'd love an S3 but I'd be using it everyday - if I wanted a toy I'd have a kit car

My daily drive is a beast of a motor. Known as THE FERRARI to many it is the stunning.... Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7 TD
I tell you guys what the most reliable car i've ever known. Unbelievable.
Done about 30,000 miles in it under 2years and its still going... strong-ish.
But anyways my S3 weekends and fun times only love to drive day to day because it's a car that you can do so in... but the roads have grenade holes in them and every road around here got humps... i mean EVERY.

But prt57 you are right.. after driving "THE FERRARI" for a week once i drive the S3... WOW.! Thats all im going to say on that. Just awesome... and if it were remapped... i'd probably pass out.

When I'm a bit more flush I might get a Noble M400 for the weekends

The fuel consumption in the city is ~ 6.5 L/100km (that's 43 mpg i think) and on the country roads is ~ 4.5 L/100km (62 mpg).

I own this car for almost two years and i had absolutely no problem with it. Also it can accommodate 4 grown-up persons if it has to, it corners well and although it has only 68 Bhp it is quite frisky :-)

EDIT: I forgot, the luggage space is very tiny :-)

yeah, but are you a cool science teacher like my former one called Mr Boon, who had a science project called 'Boons Bomb' (although clearly in these times that would probably get the police reaction force in with guns blazing) or are you more like a Mr. Holt, who was a doppy bloke, with his shirt hanging out and noone listened because it was sooo boring?

Science lessons... rubbish at the beginning of the week, great at the end!

I guess you would have to ask some of my pupils about this. All I can say is that I run the Science department in a Science specialist college.

I still prefer to leave the S3 at home. Only last week 3 cars were scratched in the car park at random. The people were not targeted as one of the cars belonged to one of my technicians. He is a really good bloke and has never fallen out with any of the pupils.
The quotes to have the damage fixed came to about 1000.
Why do people carry out this mindless vandalism? There is no way of catching the culprits as we do not have CCTV in this area at the moment.

    Cheers, prt

These little twats need to learn a lesson, the hard way!
Bring back the cane!!! Human rights? blah! Dont talk about human rights or child abuse if the damm kid dont know how to respect others, let alone himself.

Love the way Singapore handled the situation.

I hate people who vandalise cars (or stuff in general). Are you too chicken to bring up your problem and solve it face to face with the owner? Is it "cool" to attack an innocent & defenseless car?

    Fvcking tossers...
