Stereo Removal

All you need is a set of 4 removal keys (e.g. from Halfrauds) and you can do it yourself.
 
Or be a cheeky sod like I do and go to either a dealers or an I.C.E specialist and just ask them to pop it loose from its cage for you. I dare say it would take a right miserable ****** to try and charge you for sticking four bits of flat metal in four tiny holes!
 
full kit for stereo removal for any vehicle is around £100 to non trade but i just went in and got a friend who works at HAlfords in lincoln to take it out for me and bought her a drink when next saw her:icon_thumright:
 
I would be careful with the cheap keys, I did read people had problems with them jamming in. I would pop to an Audi dealer and just ask if the could release it for you
 
I bought some keys off ebay for about £4, did the job. Weren't particularly strong though, very easy to bend, but as I say did the job.
 
I would've thought even the most miserable Audi dealer would do this for free? Its no more than 30 seconds work. Or if your going to be messing with it again much in the future then it could be worth investing a tenner in a decent set of 4 strong removal keys.

I went to Audi in Bristol and they got me a radio code in under 24 hours at no charge, was impressed!! Maybe you will get lucky like me
 
Why do you need to take it out?

If it's anything to do with the radio code, a dealer is more likely to help if the radio is still in the car.
 
i'm fitting my dension mp3 head unit with a facia adaptor
 
The Halfords ones worked fine on my Symphony II when I added a car kit at the weekend.
 
well , after ordering a new front grill (pheasant ran out :mad: ) and asking the Audi-man over the phone if one of his lads could pop the stereo out while i was there picking up the grill , his answer was "yes no problem" .
Picked the grill up Wednesday and guess what , everyone was too busy to do my 5sec stereo job !!!!!!!!!!!

Typical... Looks like you found the miserable ****** then?! LOL

Getting the keys is a good idea if you plan on constantly having the HU in and out but, if not, I'd still either try another local Audi dealer (if you have one) or your best bet would be an I.C.E. specialist... Theres a specialist I go to that carries on smiling but must be getting fed up of seeing my face! I did take my friend to have the tints done on her car there though and do occasionially buy bits from him so its not all take, take, take! :)

I guess thats why he does it though... If he's nice to me chances are I'm more likely to go back there when actually parting with some cash. A lesson your friendly Audi service manager could learn perhaps?

I used to work at a Jaguar dealership and the SM there was a really nice guy, only too happy to help and often mucked in and got his hands dirty. As a result we got a huge amount of repeat business and (parts) purchases because of him (and the ever helpful techs of course).
 
I'll second the comment on avoiding the cheap removal keys! Waste of time!

I got some of the more expensive ones (still from eBay) and they did the job fine.

Surprised you're replacing that stereo with an aftermarket one however, IMO non-standard stereo's look seriously crap in the dash, but I guess if you want better sound quality and don't care about the looks then its fine.
 
my dension head unit's awesome , i get very bored of music genere's very quickly , so , with a 40gig hard drive i can easily flit from one to the other . The display has any colour so it will blend in (Red) if i want it to as well .

The dealer can ONLY help if it is IN a car and connected, they need to connect their VAS to it and that interrogates a database which retrieves the code.
 
It's nothing to do with a non-working stereo . Just can't stand a 6 CD limit !!!!
 
Just come back from Halfords :noway:
Was gonna buy some removal keys , couldn't find any , asked the resident
spotty teenager if they had any and the answer was "Er , don't fink we do 'em" !!!!!!!!!!! :gun2: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!
Ordered some from crimebay !
Why is everything such a ****** rigmarole these days ???
 
Also got some from Audi the other day, cost me £11.60 for four of them. I got some off ebay first but they didnt work, should have gone straight to Audi, hope yours work ok tho!

Also even though the Audi keys did the job i still had to get a screwdriver down the side of it to lever it out as even though the pins were released it was very tight!

BOSE cars have all speakers driven by the amp whereas non-BOSE cars have the front speakers driven by the HU and the rear speakers/sub driven by the amp.
 
Finally got everything in and working !!!!:rockwoot:
Had some grief with the wiring adaptor , had to join the yellow and red wires together at the head unit end for the constant live .




Matched the colour quite well

 
Blimey, that brings back memories. I had one of those Densions when they first came out. Was a great idea, and ahead of it's time, but I had all sorts of problems with the build quality - buttons not working and the faceplate didn't un-latch properly etc. I also remember the radio reception being a bit flaky.

How are you getting on with yours?
 
Had this unit in about 4 of my cars now (same one)
got no complaints at all , everything still works as it should !!!!!!
Lucky ???????
