Need New Brakes - Go OEM Or Aftermarket?

Car is a 2.0TDI SE but has all the Sport trimmings too inc. suspension. I state that because i'm not sure whether there's a brake size difference between the two models.

Well my car is in need of a service and I need to change the rear pads + discs and front pads but i'm going to chane the front discs too.

Now i'll be getting a GIAC remap in the near future and was wondering, what I be better off long term to get some after market brakes to give me that extra stopping power?
Nothing crazy expensive like Brembo but something that's close, price wise, to the OEM brakes.

Just as a sidenote, won't be needing anything that will be used on tracks. Strictly road use only but it'd be nice if they last long...

    Thanks in advance.

I have my car mapped and still using standard brakes which are perfect

You can upgrade to 2.TFSI or S3 brakes for roughly £500 but you will have to bleed the brakes and get a garage that has VAGCOM to change them

Don't ask me why vagcom is needed, it just is. A mate changed his 8L S3 brakes without it and nearly went into a wall!

For what you want a good set of discs and pads will do. Brembo do remplacements not groved or anything and they can be cheap, I think I paid £20 for a pair on my escort, pads wise Ferrodo standard pads should do you, If you were to upgrade only would only go for different pads and use standard discs.

Hmmm £500... might stick to normal brakes for now you know. I'm only wanting to do a remap and nothing else for the moment. Ah well I haven't got cash to be really throwing around so i'll stick with OEMS. Didn't think they'd cost be that much heh.

Many thanks though guys. Appreciate the help =)

    Hiya mate,

Maybe a 312mm conversion would be the best bet for you?

Grab yourself a set of 312mm discs from GSF or Euro car parts etc and a set of caliper carriers for the 312's from the dealer or even try a breakers or somewhere like PSI tuning as Andy usually keeps a few sets in stock..

You'll then have upgraded your standard 288mm brakes to 312mm as fitted to the A3 2.0T/ TDI 170/ MK5 GTI for around 200 without the hassle of bleeding the brake system as the calipers are exactly the same and don't need to be changed,

Relatively cheap and easy mod to do with a noticeable improvement imo

Have a look here for some part numbers:
