I have just been in a dealer, and apparenty the S3 sportback can now be ordered. However he still did not know about S Tronic on the S3 - Does anyone know if this is going to happen on the S3?, if it is Ill wait to place my order.

Thanks for any info in advance

I understood that as well, but theyve just released with the TT-S!!!

And if they do make a DSG S3, there would be no rebate for the sweet short shift specialist manual gear box of the S3, just another £1400 for the stealer, ch-ching.

Maybe they think the TT-S will still appeal to the hairdressers that bought the mk1 TT.
;)

Having driven the TT on the track and on the Autobahn, I'm in no doubt that the TTS will be a better car than the S3!
:sadlike:

It was one of the heads of Audi that said the S3 would only ever come with a manual gearbox so I think we can believe this.....

They also said that the A3 would only ever be a 3 door car! They do change their minds from time to time, as is their want.

My dealer said yesterday that the S3 5 door is not happening to the best of his knowledge.

Don't think many hairdressers are buying the new TT, completely different car. image, performance handling, cool for folks who don't want to make rear seat passengers 'sick' as I have found in current S3. TTS will be great S3 engine Quattro and good looking, high residuals. More than a match for Alfa BMs etc

Isnt that funny, your dealer says its not coming out and yet the dealer I spoke to said its in build now - They all know nothing!!! He even saidto me look on the website - nothing there - surprise, surprise

My dealer confirmed the arrival of S3 SBack early this summer, he phoned me to try and sell me one as he knows I have a one year old daughter and thought the extra practicality would suit me - plus he was after some more commision.

Be interesting to see how it looks but I'm sticking with 3 doors as my car is classed as the '2nd' car in my home.

Strange that there's no info out there for an S3 sportback and conflicting reports whether or not it exists. I for one would be interested to know if it's true as I think it would have a serious effect on the future value of my 3.2:crying:

As for the DSG, I love mine and I never thought I would like an auto.

having been in touch recently re an s3 to order, my dealer also mentioned that the s3 was in sback form and i could order from april, again trying to sell to me because ive always had 5 doors, its taken me 4 years to realise i never sit in the back !!! 3 doors here i come!

They better ****** not as I have just bought the A3 sportback and would deffo have gone for the S3 if it came in 5 door!

id bet someone elses money on it, probably yours moisty, it looks quite likely to happen.:icon_thumright:

I was also told that for some reason there would be no s-tronic version of the s3.

And there was me thinking I would keep this car for 2 years!!

So, if I upgraded the ECU to the same levels as an S3, have I got an S3 with 5 doors or is the S3 different to an A3 2.0t Quattro s-line in many ways, not just power output?

I am only interested in manual gearbox so that doe not worry me.

The only thing you will have in common with the S3 is the colour:icon_thumright:

S3 sportback would kind of make sense, especially for the UK market.
3.2Q sportback is band G and arguably costs as much as an S3 in s-line trim with xenons and a few other options to bring up to a similar spec. Perhaps people aren't buying 3.2's anymore due to the whole 'green' debate.
S3 engine slips in nicely under the Band G banner so for a lot of people it would make more sense!

With regards to 3.2 residuals - are these not hurting at the moment anyway with the green branding anything in Band G as evil???

To answer the question above re: S3 and standard 2.0TFSI - A remap would not give you the same car as an S3. The S3 has specific brakes, suspension springs, dampers and lighter weight suspension components, the engine internals are re-engineered and made from different materials, clutch.... the list goes on!

I'd certainly consider sportback S3 when I consider changing mine.

Thanks for that, I assumed it might be a lot more than just engine management. I will be soooo ****** off if they come out with 5 door. I did want the S3, but needed 5 doors more than the increase in performance!

Does that mean my car is faster than a standard A3 as I have S3 paint?

It would be interesting to see an A3 with the 3.0TDI engine in ... if it fitted. Serious diesel power - and green too!

Spoke to one of the other dealers I use, today, and the S3 sportback i definately happening, and they were 95% sure that the S tronic isnt.

Hope that clears it all up!!!

first of all Hi to all!
I also want to confirm that my dealer here in Greece said that S3 SBack going to happen in june but had no infos about S Tronic.he knew it a month ago....

I actually phoned Audi UK yesterday, and they said the sportback is avilable here at the end of the year and no news of the Stronic -So looks like Im going for a 3 door manual then!!!

Perhaps they will save the S-tronic for the RS version.

Which is strange, as I was told by my dealer yesterday, that you can order the S3 Sportback now, as its being released in July!!! Obviously you wouldnt be ableto have it before the release date

Who do I believe??

I really wanted a sportback, but my order is in, and its too late to change

S3 Sportback comes with the facelift model which is due in July/August. But you can't order it yet.

They are probably just trying to get an early deposit out of you.

I agree with Audi, that S-tronic, as it is, will not suit an S3/RS3.
It simply does not give the control that a true sports driver requires.

yeah but lets be honest, I wouldn't exactly classify the S3 as a sports car. It's a bit fat and lardy for that. Your argument would stand if we were talking about Elises/Caterhams et all but not a tubby euro hatch.

Audi are fitting it to the TTS so why not the S3.

True. But many sports type cars aren't driven by 'true sports drivers'. Many are driven by WAGS, posers and the sad who, as psychologists tell us, see their car as an extension of their member.

I would take a stab that Audi think the two cars will attract a different type of driver, perhaps with the S3 driver being less likely to put up with things like the gearbox 'taking over' at high revs.
Short of that, you'd have to ask Audi.
All I'm saying is that it wasn't a huge surprise to me when someone on the S3 project decided DSG, in it's current guise, didn't fit in with the ethos of the car.

Was at Audi Mayfair today and one of the sales guy showed me a piece of paper with "planned product launches". The S3 sportback was certainly in there, along with the Q5. No mention of the new S4 or any RS models (except for the rs6).

Having said that, the format looks like the work of a really bored 8yo with Ms Excel, so it's everyone's guess really.

As far as the S-tronic in the S3 is concerned, it may well depend if or when Audi decide to import the S3 into the USA as most American drivers have no idea how to drive with a manual gearbox.
