Hi,

Just come back from my 9th visit to Audi for the problem with my A3 3.2 54 plate. After a month the battery keeps going dead, so obviously there's a small drain somewhere.

Luckily booked it in just before the warranty finished. audi have no idea where the problems happening, so I'm starting to think I've got a lemon on my hands. What do you recon the the chances are of getting a good deal on a trade up.

Looking at a A4 cab or maybe a TT. I've already contacted Audi HQ and I'm thinking of writing a official letter to the delaership. Anyone know who I should address this to.

What I'm trying to get is for the dealership to pay me full trade in price for the A3.

Cheers

You mean the car is stood for 1 month without being used and the battery goes flat? Or are you just suffering with a flat battery once a month with the car in normal usage?

If you have a drain then it should be easy to isolate, do you have any extras fitted? non standard audio? phone kit? Start with these first if you have.

Otherwise connect a multi-meter between the dis-connected battery terminal and the battery post and measure the drainage, try removing fuses one at a time until the drainage decreases and hey presto! Surely Audi will have tried this? Have you got details about what they have done and tried?

I did just the above with a friends astra and we traced the constang battery draining to a faulty rear wiper motor.

nope normal use, no extra's fitted. It's in the workshop with Audi, I'll leave them to it.

Basically my opinion now is I want to get shot of it, they've tried to fix it 9 times without success. I think they've had plenty of chances.

Try a different dealer then or find a good specialist, changing cars is a bit extreme for a flat bettery isnt it?! it'll be cheaper to fix yours than to buy a new car!

doubt it's out of warranty and so far they've changed, fans, ecu, number of different wiring. If I hadn't of caught it in time i'd be 3 grand down by now.

The next Audi dealership is miles from me and I haven't got the time to go round the houses.

fancy a new car anyway, but back to my original question, do you know who I should write to at the dealership with my grievences.

thanks

Either phone the dealership and get the name of the person in charge or address it the The Dealer Principle.

gonna write them a letter tomorrow, or may email. Going to put somthing along the lines of the current experience has tainted my idea of audi being a premium brand. But i'm willing to give them a chance as long as they can give me a good deal.

I'll also mention logging the call with Audi HQ, any other suggestions

thanks

State your case clearly and concisely. Be polite. Don't slag them off. You want the person you're addressing onside not with raised hackles.

bit of an update, got call from the service manager saying that the dealesrhip principle had read my letter and although they agreed with my concerns, they still had to established where the fault was coming from and they would be keeping my car for a month and using it daily to establish if the fault reoccurs.

not good me thinks

copy of the letter if anyones interested

Dear Mr. ******,

Audi A3 – Registration No.: ******

I am writing this letter with grave disappointment following my constant issues with my Audi A3. Over the last 6 months, my car has been in and out of Audi West London Dealership over 9 times in an attempt to get various reoccurring faults rectified.

I have taken 9 days holiday in order to get my car to yourselves, which has been far from convenient and a complete waste of my time and holiday.

On one occasion, I was instructed to lie to the RAC mechanic in order to get my car transported to your Dealership. Your off-site engineer removed one of the fuses so that the car would not start and they would then be forced to transport the car. This is not the kind of solution I expect from a prestige company like Audi, and I certainly would not want to be put in that kind of position again, especially as it could potentially void my policy with the RAC.

On another occasion, I was told I could not take my car to West London and would have to take it to Audi, Victoria. Victoria told me they were unable to look after me which left me in a rather frustrating situation, hence I had no other choice but to approach Audi West London again, via Cathy the service supervisor. Once again, the car is currently with yourselves and when taken in, I was told “there isn’t a problem”. To prove my point I was left no other alternative but to send you a picture of the failed dash which, with luck, I had thought to take.

Low and behold a day later the car displayed the fault whilst at your dealership.

The latest update I have had, is that the fault cannot be established and that the car is required for a further period; this does not instil much confidence in me.

I purchased my Audi believing I was putting my money into a premium product, however so far, the whole experience has been far from what I anticipated. When I purchased this vehicle I was reassured that the car would serve me well and the service I would receive from you would be of a high standard. As you can see, this has certainly not been the case. I have now completely lost faith in this car and have learnt that I cannot rely on it as it constantly lets me down. This is a great shame as I like your brand and have always aspired to buying an Audi. I would therefore like you to buy this car back from me as I feel that your end of our agreement has not been kept.
I look forward to hearing from you in the very near future in order to come to some kind of amicable solution as I can no longer afford to be inconvenienced by this car.

Yours Sincerely

meeting booked with the dealership principle next friday, fingers crossed all goes well

I'll be keeping my 'gingers' crossed for you too :p

Seriously, good luck, I hope you get the results you are looking for.

Can I suggest that before you go to the meeting, research the value of other cars equivalent to yours and make sure you know what deal you would be happy with. Perhaps itemise your expenses to date, ie loss of earnings, travel, time etc. and make sure you factor this into your deal.

Good luck with the meeting.

Could this be the dashpod fault that plagued Mk1 TTs? One of the failure modes was a current leak that kept discharging the battery.

To me this is insane! you pay for a car, said car has a problem, dealer wants to keep the car, use it daily for a month (Racking up miles on your car) to find the problem - Does the dealer think this is acceptable?!

Thanks dave good suggestion. I'll make a list of time spent, etc and yep I don't think it's resonable to have them rack of loads of mileage on my car.

Thanks for all your replies

right good news, come back from the dealer a happy chappy. They gave me over the average for my car and a heavy discount off a new A4 cab special edition. VAT off plus lots more. The finance also worked out great less than freewaycars.
Overall have to say I was treated great, although I still had to do a bit of bartering on the finance.
Pick up my new motor April time, so hopefully we'll get some Sun by june.

Thanks for all your feedback as it came in realy usefull
