I have owned my S3 for about 4 weeks now and just wondered if the front brakes making a gentle squeak at low speeds when braking gently is normal. Only happens when coming to a gentle stop.

Anyone else have this on theirs?, cars done 13k miles so doubt the brakes are life-expired.

Thanks for any replies

if it helps, my 140 tdi does this too, as a matter of interest, are yours DSG? I think this is why mine squeak as they get more use "creeping" in traffic

Copper grease on the back of the pads will help but the main problem is asbestos, or rather, the lack of it. Modern pads have substituted metal particles for it. Most of the squeal comes from contact between the pad and the disk causing high-frequency vibrations in the same way as rubbing a wet finger around the rim of a large thin glass. A low speed squeal is of little concern. It's very difficult ro remove. Abrading the pads may provide temporary relief but it will probably return. It's made worse if your car stands unmoved outside for days. The thin film of rust that forms contaminates the pads and adds to the problem.

Some of my previous A3s have had this problem, but my current 170 (with a DSG) doesn't 'squeak' at all - thank goodness!

My 3.2 does it. It also gets left standing for a long time between runs. it has covered about 13k miles.

No DSG!

Mine does this periodically and is quite annoying, I mentioned this at the dealership in passing to the service Tech who said no-one had reported any issues so glad to see I'm not alone. If enough customers mention it perhaps Audi will change the type of pad used - or perhaps not !?!!

Good point - it must be the pad compound as mine had new pads fitted at the last service and still squeaks slightly (It also appears to happen quite randomly)

Mine does this and ****** me off, you only really notice it in the underground car park or NCP, so the sound bounces around and everyone looks expecting to see the N plate escort
