Was the "ZF short to ground" as a result of retrofitting an RNS-E? If so I'd be interested to know how they fixed it.

If it was the "RNS-E retrofit into 2007" error, I can't believe they would have done anything other than clear the fault. As I understand it, you either need to fit an expensive aerial diversity unit, or re-wire the rear screen aerial connections. They surely wouldn't do this for a non-factory fitted installations?

I'd be very interested to know how (or if) they did fix this. I only know of two options, one is a boot rewire to replicate the old antenna system and the other is fitting a Golf V diversity module behind the RNSe. I have parts on order for the latter (just waiting for cables) and will post how I get on when I have fitted all the bits.

Lee, can you do a vagcom scan tonight and see if the error is still there? I'll bet you a pint it still is.

Another one interested in this - not that bothered with the fault, but it would be nice to get rid of it.

yup, me too. I expect they did something as they'd hardly say they repaired it under warranty if all they did was clear the alert.

If they did just clear the alert, it comes right back the next time you turn on the radio as the short to earth is still there.

Some people have said they don't notice the fault, but I get it every day - my reception on radio 2 is terrible. before fitting the RNS-E I had a perfect signal, now it hisses and crackles for about half my journey to and from work.

I tried to buy an A3 from Leeds Audi 3 years ago - I'm still waiting for the call to arrange a test drive.

What made it worse was I knew the sales person as they used to work at Mercedes and sold a smart to my wife.

I prefer to use the dealer ten miles further west in Bradford where to date I have received excellent service from all staff.

    Just bumping this up again.

If you are around Mitch, would be really interested to know how/if Audi solved your "ZF to ground" error.

That's true, but, rightly or wrongly, the vast majority of the buying public will merely look upon them as 'Audi dealers'.
So any lack of service directly reflects on Audi.
What sort of checks and/or punishments do crap Audi dealers go through?
Could they lose their franchise, or are they okay as long as they pay?

    I'm confused about this now.

I plugged vagcom in to check, and no, it isn't fixed the problem is still there. What's confusing me is that it is now picking up far more radio stations than it did before (which along with being told it was all sorted, is why I thought they'd fixed it).

Sorry everyone, but they've kind of sorted it for me.
Any chance of asking them what they did? Did they know it was a retrofit?
