Hi Guys and Gurls

Some HID XENON CONVERSION KIT Questions!!!!

Im looking for the best Legal HID Xenon Kits for Audi A3 Car, Any Ideas anyone??

Im only interrested in kits, which include the headamp adjuster, allowing them to be dipped, if that makes any sense.

Does anyone know the manufacturer of the original OEM Xenon Kits which can be ordered when car is new??

How long do HID Xenons Last??

To be legal you need auto adjustment and headlamp washers. Kufatec sell a Xenon kit (I think it has the adjusters too, but they can be bought seperately). I hope your sat down, it costs 1377 Euro.... As for the headlamp washers, you may want to search around to see if anyone has done this for ideas on parts and prices.

Xenon life? Cant say for sure, but I didn't have to change any bulbs in my 8L S3 and I had that for over 5 years.

lol thats too expensive for lights, not worth the money at all. im gonna keep looking for somthig around 200 quid. as for washers, i wont need them, onl the adjusters, when u say washers, u mean like nozzle to squirt water onto them. why do they ned washers???? are they seceptible to dirt more than he standard lights.

I have the aftermarket HID conversion kits and despite being completly illegal I've been through 2 MOT's and driven passed the fuzz without being stopped more times than I can count.

If you can get over your conscience of being illegal and fit them properly by means of adjusting the light pattern then they are well worth the money. The only people who will kick up a fuss is the people on these forums who have OEM HID lighting and have that "Not in my club" mentallity

even thought they are illegal, iv never heard of a case of policeman stopping someone just because they have HID xenon kits, anyhow as long as they are adjustable i think they pass, correct me if im wrong anyone!

As you will see from the link to the DfT document, any Xenon type of headlights must adjust automatically. Manual adjustment is not enough.
Also to be legal they must have headlamp washers.

As far as being stopped by the police, unless your exceeding the speed limit you unlikely to ever to stopped by the police for anything!!!

Whilst at the moment even the MOT does not seem to pick up on illegal Xenon headlights this could easily change at any time.

You may also need to do something to the Autocheck system to stop it from constantly telling you your headlight bulbs have blown.

do all audis come standard with auto check system u mentioned above, iv never had a fused bulb yet, so i dont know. if it is the case then further investigation will need to be done.
iv had my car nearly 3 months now and im still waiting for the damn user manual, from the dealer....the "auto check" maybe mentioned in their, but i wudnt know.

however i definately need Xenon HID lights, the standard audi lights are absolutely ******'z, they make me tired when driving at night, so its an issue prety high on my "to do list".

As for the washers, does anyone know if its possible to install them on audi A3? and why are they a compulsory requirement???? do they make a difference to the light thats ommited?

As far as I'm aware all A3s come with the Auto-check system as standard. There have been items on this forum about people have to include resistors etc in the wiring for the headlights because the voltage used to supply Xenon units is different from the normal halogen units.

Have you thought of trying some of the latest type of high output halogen bulbs. These can dramically improve the normal headlights. My current A3 is my 6th and the first one where I've had Xenon headlights. With all the others I've used the high output halogen bulbs and they made a big difference and with no requirement for auto-levelling or headlamp washers.

www.kufatec.de do a full kit for the auto dipping lights that works with the oem xenon lights - these have a 4-wire lamp adjustment stepper rather than the 3-wire system for the 0-3 type manual height adjustment

so you need 380 euro for the height system
approx £300-500 for a pair of uk spec oem xenon headlamps if they include the bulbs, igniters and ballasts.

and to do things properly, a set of washers - the parts run to about £150 as far as i can see from ETKA

cheers dunk, but i already got the MTec kit, but the washers i am interrested in, the labour to fit them seems intensive?

looking through the part catalogue, you could probably get the 2 washer sprayers and the bottle pump for about £100 from vagparts, but you'll have to spray the covers the same colour as your paintwork

the tubing could be any old stuff, and there's a relay (£3) and a wire to run from the central electric control unit to turn on the pump with the properly delay of the washer button - usually 1sec delay but programmable with vag-com

i presume you could easily fit yourself - bumper off in about 15 minutes, although getting to the washer bottle might take some effort.

im thinking of a non-franchise specialist for 2-3 hours to get the parts fitted so labour should be about £80-£100 with £100-120 parts.

i'll definately sort out the relay and wiring myself though.
