Hey all 1.6'ers, what's the biggest rims that you have on your A3's? I currently have the standard 16"ers and want to go bigger, but my friend says that 18"ers rub on the back? is that so?

Please share your experiences...

Thanks.

CAn get 19's on with no problem. Make sure you've got the right offset.

Had a S-Line Sportback on the standard 18 5 spoke alloys. Probably not a big issue going to 19" but 18"s would be comfy without alteration.

Offset is the key. From reading loads of other threads on this topic, wheels under ET45 may cause problems. IIRC the 16s I had on my SE were ET50, and the 17" Stars I swapped to are ET56.

19's and an et45 offset will go on fine, but it depends on the wheel/tyre width. Mine catch on the liners very rarely on speed humps. I'm not sure without looking what the wheel width/tyre width is, but I can check later

I have 19s, et50, 235/35/19 tyres and lowered on coilovers - absolutely no rubbing issues at the back

20s go on the a3 no problem either but in my opinion - useless!

For a 1.6, i wouldnt go any bigger than 18s otherwise you will seriously compromise power and your car will be even more dead than a dodo!

keep it simple, keep it OEM and dont tack it up!

Thanks all! after reading this I may look no bigger than 18"ers, i don't want my turtle to become a snail.....

hehe, GO 1.6er's!!:rockwoot:

Ju, I can't believe yours rubs and its not even lowered? I'm gonna run 235/35/19 with ET45 as well, I'm gonna drop it coilovers also.

lol. I've ordered ET45 8x19 from america, they should be on their way now, I'm gettin spacers as well, so I'll be getting my arches rolled it looks like. Thankyou guys.

if you are lowering - et50 is the best offset

you may get away with it if you have 225 profile tyres and go for the stretched look

Err........It is lowered on H&R springs, sits just nice.

It rubs a little more now it is lower, but it did very occasionally rub before.

It's nothing too serious though and I may look into installing some different bump stops to the rear shockers. Demon Tweeks sell some, but I haven't worked out which ones yet:readit:

19's do fill the arches nice, although I would look into swapping to some oem 18's if the right set came along.

I don't think it's the arches it rubs on, just the plastic liner!

You need a nice set of OZ Ultra Leggera, these are ultra light compared to normal alloys and so you can get away with a bigger size as they are light.

Only downside is that they aren't cheap :faint:

The plastic liner inside my arches is getting RIPPED OUT then! There is a specialist in Bradford called Adam Baker, they specialise in arch rolling give them a call.

:hi:

can any serious damage be done to anything if it rubs? surely it ain't good ....

Back on the original rims at the moment anyway for the winter and also to sort some minor kerbing.
Slightly off topic but how much extra did you pay for the rims on the insurance, Privilege wanted £120 for 6 months cover and an extra £250 excess!!!:wtf:

thats a bad idea mate - you will get raped if you have an accident

who are you insured with?

check out Greenlight insurance - they are mods friendly and offer really good conpetitive prices - ask to speak to Tony and say Boydie from reallymeansounds.com sent you

Yeh I know. I've been riding that risk since I was 18 with different cars, we'll wait and see basically, I'm gonna have to take out a new policy now because my insurance company won't insure me because I'm not 25. But I'm gonna take out a traders policy as I'm gonna start buying and selling cars anyway, I've got till march we'll wait and see what happens.
