Retrofitting a MFSW S-Line

I picked up my S-Line the other day, and was hugely dissapointed to find that you cant use the bluetooth properly without a MFSW. The car I brought is a year old so I didnt get to choose the spec, as I would have wanted this!

I was wondering if you guys would know an Audi Specialist in the Guildford area that could retrofit a Sline MFSW, and whatever else I need to get the full functionality from the bluetooth, and my stereo.

The car literally has every spec option, except the one I'd consider the most important!

Its a relatively simple retro-fit, you might also need a new steering wheel ECU and slip ring as well as the MFSW (which wont be cheap!)

Airbag should be the same as long as your not fitting the flat-bottomed wheel, You'll also need access VAG-COM to recode the car.

Job should take you just an hour or two at the most, I retro-fitted cruise to mine which obv involves removing the MFSW and that took about 45 minutes. HTH
 
I retrofitted the MFSW to mine and it was straight forward although I did need a new airbag as the fixing arrangement on the back was different.
I didn't need a new steering wheel ECU, maybe this was down to already having paddles on the steering wheel?
You will also need it recoding at the dealers or by somebody with CAN compatible vag com though

Definately recommend it , although I believe it should of been standard equipment on what is already an expensive car!

Tell me about it! I really not comfortable doing this job myself, I dont have anything to recode VAG, and Im the type of person who would fit this together, and end up with some parts left over!

I might give the Audi garage a call, how much do you think the parts alone would cost? 400-500?

well my dealer wanted close on £2k for the full job including parts, needless to say I haven't bothered and like you I don't fancy doing it myself. Must be an opportunity for someone out there, happily pay sensible money?

Wow 2k for a MFSW.

Parts are about £380+vat and about an hour to fit and recode the car.

The only additional thing some may need is the steering wheel control module. If you have cruise already then you have this but otherwise it is about another £80.

any competent DIYer or garage should be able to fit the wheel then it's just a matter of finding someone with VAG-COM to do the coding bit.

Ha Ha £2,000, you've got to give them credit for trying I suppose !
 
Ive got a flappy paddle gearbox, dunno if that means ive got the steering wheel control module.

If I brought all the parts from Audi-Accessories (when its back up), maybe I could find somebody to fit it. Would this effect the warrenty?
 
No shouldn't make any difference to warranty (unless it was a fault related to the MSFW). The control module isn't specific to DSG (mine is DSG). I think if you have Cruise control or Factory fitted RNS-e then you should have it. My car didn't but I retrofitted Cruise Control first and changed the module then. It is easy enough to check the part number of your current module if you have VAG-COM.
 
I had cruise retrofitted at the dealers when I bought my car. They didn't need the steering wheel ECU as it was already there.
When I did my steering wheel apart from the airbag issue, it was a 10 minute Job to change and that's with a tea break in between.
I just then put up a vagcom request and dropped someone some beer tokens for their trouble!
All in it cost me about £70 , I even made £20 on the airbag swap:icon_thumright:

Just get stuck in and do it!!!

Where did you get the wheel from?

The only concern with doing it myself is messing up the airbag, is there a picture tutorial of someone removing the steering wheel? Also how hard would it be to wire in the new wheel etc, the last car I worked on was a 1977 MG Midget and things have moved on considerably since then!
 
Good old ebay!

The airbag comes of by undoing 2 small bolts at the rear/side of the wheel(behind 2 plastic covers).
The airbag will then unplug, just make sure the ignition is kept off while its out.
The actual steering wheel is fixed by a torx headed bolt.

My suggestion would be to just get a wheel and then worry about the fitting after, there's plenty of friendly help on this forum if you need it!

My 2005 had a spine bolt holding the wheel on.

Sorry if i am intruding on this thread

I have a 2004 and want to fit a MFSW and cruise control and i have the DSG paddles. Do you think i will need a steering wheel control module for the cruise control.
What parts would i need to do a MFSW conversion?

Another way to use the bluetooth is to get a switch to go in dash (in one of the blanks next to the ESP button) for £7.24 + VAT from VAGparts and wire it into the MFSW connector.

I am going to wire it into the button on the phone cradle which I removed of the dash.

Quite correct , it's an M12 sized one.

Well I didn't need a new one, mines an 05, but I suppose there's only one way to find out

Not too sure the MFSW was an option in 2004? If it wasn't then you may have the added problem of missing wiring looms
 
The signals from the mfsw controls use the same wires that feed the paddles.
 
Do you think a regular garage would fit this for me if I brought all the parts?
