1st problem :(

I've just picked up my 53 plate 2.0tdi sport (83k on clock) and as i was driving the turbo seemed to stop working?
It was as though a hose had come off (no boost) but this wasn't the case, it struggled to go up a slight incline as there was no power at all.
This happened as soon as the low fuel beep/ light came on (can it be connected?)
I stopped, switched ign off, left it for a minute and restarted and everything was back to normal?
I know about limp mode (i've had 3 1.8turbos) but there was no warning light (ems) so not sure this was the case

Has anyone else had this problem?

if the cat was at fault wouldn't it throw up a warning light and wouldn't the problem be there all the time?
