Noticed on a few occasions recently.. only happens first thing in the morning or after a cold start, 2nd gear seems obscenely difficult to engage..

Anyone else had the same problems or just me?.. :(

Ta,

Yes I had exactly the same problem and I went to dealer. They replaced the whole gearbox under warrenty!

Just one of the many things that has gone wrong with my a3!

My manual A4 was hard to get into first gear when cold.
REALLY hard.
Like grunting and shouting "coooome oooon" hard.
Only took a few hundred yards to become fine though.
No fault found by the dealer.(quel surprise)

Even on a "good" gearbox 1st to 2nd is notchy at best, never smooth like the rest of the changes.

I've not had problems with 1st to 2nd, but 4th to 5th can sometimes be awkward if you try to rush it. The spring centering seems a bit weak.

I've had problems 4th to 5th too. Just doesn't like to slip in easily every-so-often.

I'm finding it difficult getting it from 2nd to 3rd sometimes, it always nudges to the left towards 1...

Never had a problem. My gearbox seems extremely smooth, whatever the temperature..

Thanks for the comments..

It isn't every time and always clears up within half a mile (a few changes), so not thaaaat fussed.

May get it booked into the dealer to have a look anyhow although don't really want them to have to replace the entire gearbox
