    Watch out for bird poo!

Hi, a colleague at work picked up a new A3 on Saturday. She saw it on Friday when she went to sort out paper work and noticed bird poo on the bonnet. She mentioned it to the sales guy.
She picked up the car on Saturday but after a couple of days noticed a strange mark. Yes you guessed right the bird poo had etched into the laquer and they had just tried to polish it away giving a swirly patch on an otherwise pristine bonnet.
As you can imagine she is not happy and is going back to the garage this evening. I would not like to be on the receiving end as she can go mega mad when needed!!
Moral of the story- don't buy a car on the 1st Sept when they have to prep loads of cars and let them stand outside. If a bird does bomb your motor get it off asap.

This pissed me off when i got my car back in march. I told them i didn't want it on the first cos i didnt want it rushing through - so i said id have it on the 2nd. Wen to see the car two weeks before and found it had alredy been stripped of the protective coating and i asked and they said they had already PDI'd it - all that was left to do was wash it the day before... I was thinking oh right cool so if birds **** on it its gonna be left for weeks unattended. Luckily they didn't and it was ok, but makes you wonder.

Have noticed with my dolphin grey A3 a couple of times now that the etching does 'heal' itself in some instances (prob if not too bad) - if not a good quick cure is 3000 grit wet and dry sand paper, followed by a polish up with some ScratchX

Get a few coats of good quality wax on the paint and it should give extra protection. I've had my car 2 years, its been bombed a few times but always got it off in less than 2 hours and no etching what-sover. My car is Avus so it has laquer over the paint and I'm not sure if some colours are more susceptible than other. I guess Misano will be cr@p at withstanding as it seems to have difficulty staying on the car without bird adding the contents of their dinners.

My Sportback is absolutely covered in marks where bird s%^t has etched away at the paint, doesnt seem to matter how long its left for though, even after cleaning off after 2 hours its still etched. shocking paint honestly!oh and the dealer is obviously "very" keen to help

As many of you may well know I'm on my 6th Audi A3. I used to wash my car every week, but now, as I do a few less miles because I am retired and do not have the daily drive to work and back, it's generally every couple of weeks, depending on the weather.

I used to use a product called Simoniz Liquid Diamond to 'polish' the car. This seems not to be made any longer and I now use Autoglym Super Resin Polish. I use this two or three times a year on both the car and the wheels.

I can honestly say I have never suffered with any problems with 'bird poo' with any of my A3s.

Aberdeen has a SEVERE seagull problem and my car can sometimes look like the things were re-enacting the bombing of Dresden.
Never a problem with the paint marking, even if the poo stays on for days.
Although I do use a good wax now,I haven't always.
Even prior to the good wax,no problem with the paint.

Well I had a pair of egyptian geese "bomb" my bonnet badly last week outside a restaurant in garden setting.

My S3 is sprint blue - and 3 hours later, after hosing the large splats off, there were 3 large "burn" marks in the paint. Like a slight discolouration of the clear coat - which can't be seen in direct sunlight, only at sunset or under flourescent lighting - say in a parking garage.

    Horrible nonetheless.

Specialist body shop I know (they are one of the few places allowed to fix Lambo's here in SA) managed to get 2 of the 3 burns out. Last one is just too deep.

Will get a bonnet respray sometime in the near future if it still bugs me.

    Damn birds.

That's what poo with a pH of 3.5 will do.

I shall have to watch out! I having a train ride to Aberdeen at the end of October so no problem with the car. Just travelling up on the Saturday, stopping one night at the Britannia Hotel and travelling back on the Sunday. Perhaps I should remember my umbrella.

The station is within spitting distance of the harbour,so you'll notice all the roofs around there have a white hue to them !
You don't see many convertibles driving around there with the roof down.
I think the Britannia is in Bucksburn ?
    Close to where I work.
Any reason to choose there,as it's not usually the sort of area people choose for a weekend here ?
Nothing wrong with it,just a bit far out of town.

Wifes pearl black VW has suffered from this on a few occasions even though I remove it asap, very annoying.

I've now waxed it with Bowfer recommended Collinite 476 so will let you know if it makes a difference, it had better as my shoulder still aches from all the hard work
