Yep, it's not only sat1983 who's come back to his car to find it in a state.

Went to cinema on saturday at Purley in Croydon, come back after seeing Transformers (good film btw) to find some di*kless piece of sh*t has screwed up my front bumper and dented the bonnet!
Absolutely lost for words, just filled with rage! Went to local police station & local council to check CCTV but it doesn't seem to cover that area.

So went to Tuning Werkes today to get a quote on the work and it came to a whopping £800+!

Front bumper - £189.30
Grill - £17.39
Near Side Grill - £21.60
No. Plate Holder - £25.60
No. Plate - £20
Paint Job - £140
Labour - £288

Total ex VAT - £700+
Total inc. VAT - £800+

Just trying to weigh up whether to go through insurance or not. Also considering getting the single frame fitted instead (if I don't go through insurance).

Is there anyone out there that could get ahold of another bumper for me, preferably do the work too. I'll pay up but no where as near as £800, that's just too much!

Here's some pics of the damage that the bast*rd done:

Any pics from further out?

If it's more than the excess, then it may be worth claiming. But then your NCB goes down (and premium goes up 'anyway'...).

All these hit'n'runs are making me nervous...

I'll go take one now from further out. Excess is £220 but I do lose my 2years no claims + add another claim. Think i'm gonna have to carry on driving like that until I can get the money. It's embarassing but got no choice.

Just don't wanna go through insurance, not until I can protect and I can only protect it when I got 5years NCB. Kinda makes me think what's the point in having insurance!

I probably wouldnt cliam as its gonna cost you more in the long run.

Just an idea but if you not in any mad hurry to get it sorted Id probably just try and pick the bits up second hand on ebay and the likes. Its not like its undrivable.

Good luck, and although very unlikley, I hope they catch the scum.

Here's 2 more pics of the front end taken further out:

Thanks petewon, I hope I find whoever it was too, I truely do!

Well I just got a couple of quotes with exactly the same details but with another claim and without my 2years NCB and it adds another £1000 or so. Think i'll just work hard and get the the front end done.

I'm considering getting the single frame conversion done, should cost roughly the same right since it needs the same parts missing.
Thing is, think it might decrease the re-sell value as it'll be seen as more of a tuning mod then just a OEM replacement if you know what I mean.

Yea I just found that too, just wondering if it's got headlamp washers. Thanks though but thing is both the guys at Tuning Werkes & Audi told me the same thing:

"although you may see other bumpers around, they will have different fittings and it will not match your car. You may get it and when it comes to fit it, you'll find that the right/left side is not flush. It will not work..."

What do you think about that? It can't be completely true can it?

What about a 'smart' repair?

(from a suitable recommendation, of course)

i have seen chipsaway sort out things like this.

i would find out if they can fix the damage first and if they can whip the bumper off and replace the grills and let them sort the rest.

no way is that £800 to fix.

i had both sides of my car reprayed for 500 notes

Just checked on ETKA and for a 2004 A3 there are only two bumper covers available, one with headlamp washers, and one without. So I'd say that bit of advice was incorrect.

What do you mean Sam?

Yea I think £800 is wayyyy too much! So anyone know any places I could pickup one for with headlamp washers?
If I find one, anyone up for fitting it on there for me?

I'll also continue looking on eBay since that "bit of information" is incorrect! Is there such thing as a fake front bumper?

I could do with all the help guys. Really do appreciate every bit of input :friends:

emzino I feel for you. I really do. Just looking at the pics, I felt so bad for you. I would be full of rage if that was mine. You'll get it sorted soon I' m sure. What is up with this past week and damaged cars!!

I hope so mate, I hope I get it out the way soon. Just looking at the old pics on my PC kills me. It looked so perfect before and now it looks like I don't care for my car or something. It's heart breaking man... i'm just speechless :blownose: :sorry:

i hate to see cars in a mess liek that makes me cringe! - its gonna cost you to convert to newstyle grill though as you will have to chang the bonnet also - and by the look of that damage it prob doesnt warrant that - any bodyshop would say it is better to repair that than replace (well cheaper anyway)

The cheapest way is to ring around some scrappies and try and get a bumper already painted in correct colour and in good condition and this will save you getting it resprayed and also prob be factory painted and so better quality paint finish. Other bits are easy enoughth they are just various plastic parts

Mmmm. Hey steve you reckon it's possible to get the headlamp washers cutted out onto a bumper that doesn't have it? I've had a guy offer me a black 2003 front bumper just like mine but without headlamp washers and no grills for £50!

You've heard of the various Chips Away/Dentmaster stories (good/bad/ugly) - what I meant was to get a quote (and work done) from someone who has been recommended from someone on here in the past...

(if that's what you decide to do)

Aha I see. Well a3guy gave me some websites, dunno if he's recommending them (are you a3guy?) but i'm gonna give them a call along with an e-mail with the pics and see what they can do. Got alot of closeups so hopefully I don't need to drive all the way down there just to find out it's still gonna cost me a bomb.

Be careful out there Sam mate, alot of scum about.
I mean, if the guy left a note with his details and what not then this wouldn't a problem, but when your left on your own and there's nothing you can do about it when it comes to whos taking responsibility, it's a nightmare...

that looks like the one.

why don`t you get him to pack it up and send your own courier to collect it.

i have done this loads of times.

Will it defo fit a3guy, like are the brackets and fittings the same etc =/

And send my own courier? Haven't done this before  Who would you advise I use as a courier?

why would it be any different it is the same is it not ?

someone mentioned there are only two kinds of bumper listed for 2004 models

with or without the washers.

so you will be okay.

use these guys for the delivery www.interparcel.com

how much does he want for it ?

Ok cool. Well I just got off the phone with him. It HASN'T got the headlamp washers which is a bum. He wanted £100. Got scratches and stone chips on it too.
He also said it's slightly purpleish grey...?

Anyway i'm gonna call the websites you gave me and see if they can give me a quote.

Spoke to the guy at PlasAuto and seems like a sound guy. It's wayyy up north though =/

Called up autopaint4u and i've just sent off the pictures as well as caradan and scuffs-n-scratches.

Hopefully they can do there magic. Thanks for your help again a3guy :)

Hey you know on eBay where there breaking parts, is it possible to buy say like a S-Line Spoiler and fit it onto mine? Would I just need the adhesives or something...

Agree with some people on here thats no way £800 to fix!

I was reversed into on my birthday a few years ago while in the pub in my red 8L S3 and the rear bumper completely split. Got stupid quotes from various places stating "oh thats a new bumper, it will need painting etc" so took it to a bodyshop over the road from Teeside Audi and they repared it and you would have thought it wa a brand new bumper.

Think they plastic welded it or something where they heat and fuse the plastic together to hide the scuff/split.

Keep trying cause believe me you will get a cheaper quote than this, yes you might have to travel a bit but whats the cost of a tank of diesel compared to a big saving on repairs?

it depends wheres its damaged though - if its damaged on a smooth section with no tramlines or shapes then yeh it can be plastic welded but it cant be welded if there is too much detail in the vicinity of the damage - it just wont go back together right and look good.

I'd defo say a whole new bumper from the scrappy wold be a better option.
