Guys

Take a browse at the photos i took today of my A3, some **** did not see me and turned right just in front of me.

My big question now is ? Will it be written off ? I do not want it back after an impact like this plus if i ever sold it i would have to declare it and loose £1000's from book price.

i doubt that will be written off either to be honest - yes there is a few grands worth of damage - but its gotta be worth £12-13k ish right?? if it costs 8k to fix they will fix it i think.

Ouch, hope your ok. I'm 90% that will be repaired. Sorry if thats not what you want to hear!

****** hell, must have been quite some knock to make a mess like that!!

Do all the doors open ok and what are the shut lines like now? Has the engine itself been hit and suffered any damaged? I see that the screen is smashed, is there any dmage to the structure round the screen?

It looks from the photos that the soft part of the car has been hit and that some relatively simple bolt on parts will repair it.

If it was mine I really wouldn't want it back after a knock like that and would be hoping it was written off. If they do repair it and you sell it on, you will only be asked if the car has been classed as a total loss due to accident damage. A few years ago my 12month old Hyundi Coupe took a bad knock to the rear quarter creasing the boot floor etc. It was jigged out and repaired and rapidly sold on by me. The dealer that bought it and HPi'd it and it came back clear and I declared and signed that it hadn't been written off.

Glad you are ok and fingers crossed you get it all sorted to your satisfaction.

It was a big impact.
Doors open ok worst luck!
The engine has been hit but cant see to what extent.

Where do i stand if i say i want it repaired at an Audi dealers rather than their prefered back st garage ?

I will sell it or px straight away if it comes back to me, would never trust it again in an accident of the same magnitude.

I recently had to send my A3 to the body shop to have 8 panels repainted due to vandalism.

Direct Line initially tried to insist that I use one of their 'Approved' body shops which are well known to be ****** awful.

I told them in no uncertain terms that I was going to use the local Audi Approved body shop and they said "oh ok". All they said is that they would not garuantee the work and that the body shop of my choice would need to submit a quote for approval.

It turned out that the Direct Line Inspector visited that body shop twice a week to inspect cars and approve work.

Be firm with them and choose the body shop of your choice.

Good luck!!

EDIT
Just to add that the Audi Approved body shop give their own warranty on the repair work anyway.

Well i will see what the inspector says then if it has to be repaired i will insist on an Audi bodyshop. At least i will know it has been done properly when i sell it on.

sorry to see those pics of your pride and joy mate.

I would guess it will get fixed.

as for where you stand on repairs: its YOUR car and YOU decide where it gets fixed, you need to stand your ground with insurance companies.

Gutted for you, hate to see a car like that :blownose: #

Doubt it will be written off, after my mum crashed my golf:banghead: 6 grands worth of damage, 3 months to fix and I got it back!!

Took it to my insurance bodyshop as I had just started new job and wanted little problems as possible, needless to say I would always use Audi Bodyshop now! Car Promtly traded in and now Audi Parked outside

I'd love to see my sportback looking like that.
I would imagine, after checking everyone was alright,my first thoughts would be about what I could get as a replacement.
I often joke with colleagues when they borrow it.
"If you're going to crash it,make sure it's written off".
Bummer if you like your car though.

My A4 had £1500 of damage for a simple rear-ender at some traffic lights.
It was nowhere near the damage of yours !
It didn't even smash any of the lights and it was perfectly driveable afterwards.
In fact, some people couldn't tell the car had been rear-ended at all.
Still,£1500 all in for a scuffed bumper and a bent subframe underneath.
Massive labour bill you see.

I'll take a punt and say your cars written off, given that it's a 54 plate.

Using Audi will affect resale more believe it or not - not because its bad quality but because they will document it in your service history at the back in the body repairs section. Whereas somewhere like direct line will not - i guess its a case of whats the better of two evils unfortunately.

And if a potentional buyer asks if it has ever been involved in an accident, what would you say.....

Better to be able to say Yes, but it was repaired by an Audi dealer and bodyshop.

When the old woman rear-ended my A4 her insurers (Tesco) wanted to take it to some bodywork place I'd never heard of,with some pish loan car like a Kia or something, probably with spaz stickers all over it.
I insisted it was repaired by Audi and I also insisted I got an unmarked A4 loan car.
If you're the injured party, you can demand what you like.

Just make sure they don't do what they did to that Focus on 5th Gear last night! Not good...

Hope you get it sorted tho matey.

How will you feel if it is repaired ?
I know I wouldn't feel the same.
I'd be looking at any creaks/rattles as a sign that something isn't right,I know I would.
To me,it'd like trying to reconcile with a bird that has shagged someone else.
They're just 'spoiled' and that's that !

You can push to have it repaired by an Audi approved bodyshop. I did that after mine was vandalised, took a little longer for inspectors to come out etc. but they did approve everything.

Sadly thats where it all went wrong for me, the work they did was disgraceful (orange peel paint, flattening marks and even badges in the wrong place). Its currently with them again for 'Rectification' but I do wonder whether I'd have had the same hassle from the insurers repairer..??

If you are in the North East think carefully before going Audi approved though.

sorry to hear about the damage.

Some insurers over here have been known to write a car off if there is average damage to the car if the airbags were deployed in the accident, which your did.

I will push the inspector hard to write it off, if no luck i will go the Audi garage route for repair (at least i will have piece of mind when i sell it)

I have been given a E Class Merc as hire car....better than a Ford KA i suppose.

They said if repairs are more than 55% of value of car (£14000) then it will be written off. Going on Audi prices i am sure it will cost more than £7700 to repair as the labour costs will be massive on their own.
Say £80 per hour so that means £3120 for 1 person for a weeks work.
Parts will be £3k-£4k surely.

Hopefully i won't be far away....I will keep everything crossed

Sorry to hear about the car, hope your all ok.

Here's a question for you guys. I wondered about this myself when my last A3 was damaged. (In my case I just let Direct Line send it to their aprroved repairer. The work was guaranteed as well)

If you insist on an Audi approved repairer, do they use Audi bodyshops or do they send the car to a local body shop specialist and send out an Audi inspector?

If it's the latter, then could it end up at the same place your insurer would send it to?

Let's just be crystal clear - you decide where to have it repaired, not the insurer.
An Audi bodyshop won't document the damage, most are nothing to do with Audi, they're just approved, not necessarily part of the dealer network, and obviosuly you don't leave your service book in the car for them to deface. Durrr!

I've heard as low as 40% of the value is borderline right-off.
Just another part of our throwaway society you see.
Chuck it,get another one.

I don't think you should just insist it gets repaired at Audi. I'd be finding out who the best bodyshop is in your area and get them to do it.

When our A4 got damaged Directline insisted it went to JM in Aberdeen. Initially I thought the repair standard was OK but I had to take it back about 5 times and there are still a couple of things I'm not happy with. However I've not heard good things about the Aberdeen Audi bodyshop so I may have been no better off there.

If I had to do it again, I'd get it up to a local guy I know who does excellent work. I may still get him to repaint the panels as I don't think the paint quality is much good and the repaired door now has a ding in it anyway.

Finally I think that's probably repairable unless the engines been moved by the impact. Front end damage always looks worse than it actually is because the parts are designed to deform in order to absorb the impact.

They did my A4,it was fine.
The only 'gripe' I had was the fact they didn't valet it,but I was hassling them to get it ready so it was partly my fault.

As with everything there's good and bad stories.

One good thing about going with Audi is that there will be no quibbles regarding bodywork warranties in the future.

Sorry to read about that rabs. It's looks a borderline write-off to me, although more likely it'll be marked a Cat D and someone will buy it from a subsequent salvage auction and repair it.

Hi Rabs

This might help if you want your car written off. You can claim "Diminution of value" of your vehicle after a major accident like yours, but this is an unisurred loss, so you have to claim it yourself from the third party insturance company (i.e. not yours). This is normally 10% of the market value of the vehicle (replament cost not trade in value) and this added to the cost of repair will often tip the scales into write off. The problem is your insurance company wont include this in it calculations because they don't have to, but the insurance company paying the final bill might. I had exactly this situation a couple of years ago, my insurance company wanted to replace the body shell on my 6 month old car, but the third party insurance company would have had to pay out more than a write-off costs by the time the diminution was taken into account. The claim was settled with the third party insurance company and the car was written off.

Either way you don't have to stand the £1000's off the book price, you claim them now amd put them into your bank :)

Hope this helps

Chris.

I would say its a 90% chance that the car will be written off, you are looking in the region of £2000 just to replace the dash and air bags, thats before you even start on the bodywork. It is very often that once all the air bags have deployed, it is a very expensive thing to repair and ALL the sensors would have to be replaced.

You do have the right to have your car repaired when YOU want it.

If I were you, I would rest assured that the car won't be repaired and you will get a settlement figure. I would be god smacked if it repaired.

Unlucky, i'd say it's written off.

But were there's blaim there's a claim.

I hope it's a write off for your sake. The damage looks quite severe and you would assume the chassis has taken quite a hit and the damage may well be throughout the length of the car.

btw, what about the guy who hit it? is he insured? has he admitted fault? etc..

Yes he was insured and liability was never an issue as the guy must of been blind.

Just noticed the E Class Merc i have as a hire car is costing £2900 for 22 days !!! I don't think i will be waiting a decision much longer ....

blimey mate as long as your ok,and after all that hassle collecting it aswell, did you get around ti fitting the springs in the end.

Hi Tinka

Nope the springs never made it on the car.....Fitted Cruise Control on the morning of accident but never got to try it out !!!

Think i will buy a bright red one next time so people see me coming

More pics from winess at scene of accident.

Oh the lady on the floor was discharged from hospital straight away

what have the insurance company said about the repair/write off,or have you decided what to do as yet.

Still waiting on the engineers report. I have told them i do not want it back even if it is repaired. I have had to send off my V5 the receipt of purchase and certificate of insurance as they said they will be claiming from the 3rd party for a total loss.

Fingers crossed
