Please help me!!!

There is a loud 'grinding' noise coming from the rear drivers side wheel when I go over a speedbump, large pothole or round a sharp corner too fast. It sounds like a grounding noise almost - metal on metal. No sound at all when hiting minor bumps or cruising on the motorway.

Took it to a garage and they said they could hear it but were unable to diagnose the actual fault. Thought it could be my exhaust knocking, but checked and it was fine.

My girlfriends dad said that he had the exact same problem on his old BMW and that one of the bushes had gone - could this be my problem?

have you excluded wheel bearing failure?
It would be all the time not only in bumps and potholes, though...

Good luck with that and keep us posted on findings, mate

Wasn't there an issue with rear shocks making a noise on 04ish cars?

maybe your one never had them replaced?
