Audi's new 1.8TFSI engine

If anyone sees any road tests that include the new 1.8TFSI engine I would be most interested. I am considering changing my current 2004 2.0TDI and I am seriously considering the new engine. Many thanks.
 
Basically it's similar to the 2.0T but only 160ps. It makes an A3 with one around £1200 cheaper than one with the 2.0T and it will be cheaper to insure. 160ps is more than enough for me - it's 20ps more than my current 2.0TDI. Whilst I like the 2.0TDI it is noisier than a petrol engine. I had 4 1.8T Sport A3s before my current diesel and loved them all, but when I bought my current one there was only the choice of the 2.0FSI, which was hopeless and the 2.0TDI which was much closer in performance to the 1.8T Sport hence my choice of the diesel.

I'm not sure yet whether I will go for another 2.0TDI-140 or the new 1.8TFSI-160.
 
I'd be interested to read a review of it too. The 160bhp is only 10 up on the 2.0FSI engine which doesn't sound much but the torque should be significantly better with with 1.8T. I had a 2.0FSI loaner for 5 days a few months back and it couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding compared to my TDI, despite having 10bhp more.
 
Exactly how I felt when I test drove the 2.0FSI before I bought my 2.0TDI.

According to the article I read about the new 1.8TFSI it produces 165Nm at just under 1000rpm with max torgue of 250Nm from 1500-4000rpm. Likewise the peak power output of 160bhp goes from 5000-6200rpm and it's designed to run on normal 95RON unleaded.

Depends what 'designed to run on' means.

Current 2.0 FSI is able to run on 95, 97 and 98 though gets best peformance from 98 according to the brochure - therefore by definition it is designed to run on 95 and 97 and 98 as it can do! You'd need to check whether the new 1.8TFSI needs 98 for best performance like I imagine the 2.0TFSI does or whether it performs to its best on 95 - though this is not what the current VAG petrol engines tend to say in their brochures. Most say runs on 98 though can run on 95/97 with slight loss of performance iirc.
 
I usually use standard 95 RON in my 2.0T. I've tried 98 RON for a couple of tankfuls, but couldn't really tell any difference.
 
Always use 98 or even 99 (tescos) on my 2.0TFSI, means my ECU isn't trying to ****** or advance the timing everytime a different grade of fuel is used.
