    My New Pride and Joy!

Sorry for the delay in getting these pics up, have been having way to much fun in the car. Every 5 minutes I have been asking the other half if she needs any more milk just so I can pop down to the shops with the car.

(Oh she's a little dirty as well)

Terrific car - those wheels really set it apart.

Also like the Wrigley's Extra in the tray aft of the gearstick. Exactly the same as my car!

    Half black/Half silver Nappa leather?

Didnt i say those wheels look good on a black A3?

Plenty of wheel sealant to keep them easy to clean is the key or else brake dust will be a nightmare to remove once embedded (i wouldnt like to start using strong acidic wheel cleaners on those rims).

I'm amazed how many people seem to prefer the Sportback. Personally I think the original 3 door shape looks so much cleaner.

WOW, thanks for all the positive replies.

All my cars have always been black, so was a no brainier really. Apart from deciding if I should go for the metallic as the solid black maybe is too black. I'm glad I had the balls and went for the solid its really does look stunning for an about 2 hours after it gets cleaned. (Thats only downside really)

And again the wheels where a total no brainier really. You can only get them on an s-line so thought it would make my car that little more exclusive. Seems to have worked!

Got 2 mods on the horizon.

    1. I went down to R-tec on the weekend to get some silver indicator bulbs and a clear fog light bulb to clean up the light units. But had a heart attack when I saw the clearance to get my hands in to change the front builds. And was left scratching my head as how to get to the rear clusters!
(Does anyone know how to do this?)

    2. Vortex side skirts are going on next month!

(Does anyone know how to do this?)
Look inside the boot behind the lights and there's a small plastic disc set into the trim. Remove this to get to the bolt securing the cluster. Undo the nut using the screwdriver in the kit in the spare wheel recess.

Now you need to ease off the cluster from the outside which is where it gets tricky. The back of the cluster (edge near the tailgate) will move quite freely but there are two metal lugs on the front edge of the cluster and it can be a right pain to get these to pop out of their holes. You need to rock it back and forth easing the cluster out a little at a time.

Once the cluster is out there's a plastic moulding on the back it which contains all the bulbs, you need to release the four clips and remove the moulding to get at the bulbs.

One thing I've never worked out is how you're supposed to get the plastic disc back into the trim after you're done. It looks totally impossible to me which is why I now have two holes in the trim where the disc was

Beauty in the eye of the beholder, and all that. But I just remembered another good reason why I bought a Sportback, and parkers.co.uk has just confirmed it for me:

    2004/54 2.0TDI SE 3dr part ex: 12790
    2004/54 2.0TDI Sportback SE part ex: 14555

The difference in cost brand new was 520, but come trade-in the Sportback is worth a staggering 1765 more! Still like those clean lines?

Anyway, don't want to go too far off topic - A3_3.2_S-Line's car looks fab.

Lovely looking car, perhaps I should persuade the wife she needs one, she seems to drive my car before using hers, or is that because she doesnt have to fill hers up then.

All you need know is a OEM BT kit for your rnse

Thanks for that, I managed to fit them, but like you said impossible to put the black plastic trim back. (will post pic soon)

    Does look a mile better.

Shame i cant replace the fog light like i wanted to as they have used a red lense instead of a red build. DOH!

Had another go at doing the front ones, but there is no way my hand will fit around the tight gap.

Yes thanks - company car so residuals don't matter to me

Seriously though, I'll confess to being surprised how much more the Sportback is worth but I spose that's the practicality of 5 doors combined with the fact that the young couples with small kids market is a big one for the A3.

I find the Sportback kind of strange looking. When I see it from directly behind I actually quite like it but from the side I just can't stand it. Still each to their own.

I do appreciate that everyone has different tastes and this is what annoys me so much about the JD-Power type surveys they do. They can survey owners as much as they like and ask all manner of questions but the one thing they can't judge is the looks of the car as if you didn't like it you wouldn't have bought it. Yes the most reliable car in the world may be a Toyota Corolla but you wouldn't catch me buying one
