    help please

Brought a 30 day old ex-demo sportback TDI S-line about 1.5 months ago.
It had a knocking noise from the rear and noticed this 2 days after buying the car. I went into audi and informed them of this problem.
I booked the car in for repair and it took them 3.5 weeks because they didnt have any loan cars to give me.

My car is now in audi and they have had it for over a week now trying to fix the knocking noise.
They can hear it but cant find it or fix it. They have now filed a report to AUdi HQ in germany.

Where do I stand with this. The service engineer worried me today saying Audi might sugguest returning the car to the customer with repair...

What can I demand and what are my rights?

Everyone and their granny knows it's (probably) the back shocks.
    Known fault.
Either your dealer is clueless,or it's something else altogether.

As bowfer has said there is a known knocking sound from the rear! Might be worth suggesting it to them... Ignore the "they all do that!" relpy though...

I haven't had the issue but others may be able to expand on the knocking noises they have experienced from the rear.

From memory they have been either probs with rear shocks which have to be replaced and the balls under the parcel shelf that hold the string in place.

Someone who has had the probs can hopefully describe them.......

I have told them this 3 times now and each time its not this. Well thats what they say.
I have been told that they now requested help from Audi and basically cant do any more at the dealership.

They are not allowed to replace the rear shocks so say. How can I get them to change them and see if it fixes the problem.

This is driving me mad and they dont seem to care or keep me updated.

I told them that I read on the internet it could be a common fault regarding the rear shocks. The master engineer was talking to me on the phone and has looked at all the lastest internal audi forums/faults and its not the rear shocks....so say

And mine. Audi state this is not a fault, but then released a revised part no.

Your dealer should be able to replace them......if they cared.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Mine is a 2006 built in May this year
    Was this problem fixed then?
Are both your cars 05 before the fixed became the norm on new built A3s?

Mine is also a S-line if that makes any difference?

They went mad over the phone when I told them about other dealers and replacing the rear shocks.
I did tell them about the rear shocks 1.5 weeks ago and was told let the engineer do his job.

They have phoned me today saying my car is now ready. They have stripped the rear shocks completely and rebuilt them. I am going down tomorrow for a road test.

What our my rights now. Can I refuse the car because its a fix not a replacement.

I dont like the sound of all this to be honest

Went mad?? Who's the customer here?

To be honest I'd get the car fixed and never set foot in the place again.

They said I wasnt helping by phoning different dealers and that I should leave them alone to fix the car. They had a chef master super enginner on the case.
I did explain that after 1.5 weeks they should at least listen to me and follow it up. But oh no....he didnt like that.

Then I asked what we both wanted...he wanted the car fixed and out of his dealership and I wanted to drive my car again. So I then explained that phoning dealers which might already have this problem and could help. But oh no he was off on one again saying that they know everything about audis

Basically shut it and go away

Stripped the back shocks and rebuilt them...
What a complete pile of ****e...
Even if they are strippable shocks, and not sealed units,I very much doubt they have the tools, parts or technicians trained in rebuilding shock absorbers.
I would very much doubt a volume car manufacturer bothers with rebuildable shocks.
Not worth the hassle stocking shims/damper rods/seals etc.etc.
They'll buy them for tuppence-ha'penny and sell them as units.
I would take that comment with a very big pinch of salt.
Do they keep sheep on their premises, coz I think they must need a lot of wool to pull over their customers' eyes.

Take it up with Audi Customer services and threaten to write to the letters page of the likes of Autocar, AutoExpress etc. saying how badly you've been treated by the dealer.

I'm sure they'll rather get the dealer to sort it out than get bad press.

I have to say that my local dealer (Poole Audi) has been faultless, even to the point of offering to fit a pukka MP3 installation free of charge as they couldn't get the car ordered with piano black inlays that I'd requested (and was having second thoughts about).

I'm sure not all Audi dealers are shysters, so if your complaint fails to strike a chord with Audi Cust. Servs. why not try another one?...

I should have said, when mentioning Specialist cars Audi in Aberdeen replaced my shocks,it wasn't quite as simple as that.
There were several visits that resulted in the usual "no noise found",but I just pressured them and mentioned I knew it was a known fault.

I have done that for over a week now. They tell me that my car built in may this year doesnt have that fault.
They wanted to send the car to germany or request help from them direct.

I have asked for my money back or a different car. Basically NO was the answer and they got CS manager to cool me down.

I have agreed to give them another go at fixing it. The master engineer came out for a test drive today and was gutted when he could still hear it.
It made a comment saying that yesturday it was fixed and must be the heat..

Does anyone know the audi HQ phone number please?

The funny thing is now, they want to stripped a brand new sportback s-line and start replacing the parts from that donar car. Then when they know what part is at fault order that part for mine..

Sorry but is this really AUDI here...It feels like I have taken a step back into a CAR SUPERMARKET which sell ford and vaxuhalls by the millions.

How can these people charge 96 an hour and be called skilled

He was told by the workshop manager I was beening negative towards them#

I feel sick and which I never brought the b*****y car now. I really felt Audi would be better than VW....GUTTED

    Blimey,that's actually pretty unusual.
I understand your frustrations, but if they were genuine with the above statement, maybe they are doing all they can to find the problem.
If you don't get any satisfaction from them,or Audi CS,maybe you could try paying for an AA/RAC report ?
Might cost you a few quid, but if they find the fault that the dealer couldn't you would have a case for getting the money back off the dealer/Audi.
    Just a thought.

Audi Customer Services phone number is 0800 699 888. It is actually a separate company that runs the Customer Service operation on behalf of Audi UK.

Audi's Headquarters in the UK at Milton Keynes is 01908 601 000.

If you do phone the HQ number you will almost certainly be put through to Customer Services.

Write down on paper that you are dissatisfied with their service, along with all the steps you have told us here and the time taken for them to carry them out. Make it clear that you consider the vehicle not of merchantable quality and that you feel you have given the dealer ample opportunity to fix the problem.
Insist that you require a full refund or an equivalent replacement vehicle and will take the matter to your solicitor unless they comply within 7 days. Do NOT let them talk you out of this.
Take the letter and hand it PERSONALLY to the sales manager and say that you will be sending a copy to the dealer principal and your solicitor the same day unless they comply with your wishes.

    Watch them back down fast.

Oh and by the way - the spare wheel IS bolted in properly isn't it? :D Had a noise like this once and it took me 3 hours to find a spanner loose under the spare wheel....

DAVE R - what was the name and email address of the nice Customer Services director that replied to your letter from the forum mentioning a lot of us were disatisfied? This contact might be useful to beerglass? Didn't she say people could contact her directly if all else was failing?
