But I read about some new cars that put the Hazard warning lights on automatically if you're braking very hard, surely that is better than extra brake lights or multi-part lights. Problem is, in the dark you'd never be able to tell if the entire brake light is lit up, or if just a portion of it is lit. Also, with the vast age span of cars on the roads, some cars brake lights are brighter than others, so you'd never know whether the bright brake lights are for hard braking, or just a fairly new car. Same goes for dim brake lights, is the car old, or is the guy just braking gently? I think the hazard warning system would be the best.
