hi girls/guys

started engine and removed oil fill cap and i could here a wooshing noise. is this normal.

iam still worried about my cam chain ahhhhhh.

is there any chance that we could put together a list of symtoms related to cam chain , iam sure iam am not the only one.

so far for me its been very bad tick over for 30 secs then ok and slight miss every 10 secs. but then no one has said its this .

with no fault codes , audi say its normal and so do an indi audi specialist . but then thay have not heard it from cold.

this list may help other people with the same issue in the future.

thanks Ray

now iam noticing like a scrapping noise from the bottom part of the chain . when i remove the oil filler cap i cant here any rattling noise from there just a gentle wooshing sound.
it had the codes read again but there is nothing there all ok .
but its still very lumpy from cold and missfiring at idle . the vwaudi specialist who i left it with over 2 days said its a strange one could be egr so he put some cleaner in it and said drive it for a while to see if this improves. its still the same. he also said it would through an fault code if the chains were out. so dont worry. is this correct.

ahhhh

i realy do need help now .

I'm guessing it's a 24v. It's not really that hard to physically check the timing on the VR6 engine, you do have to take the inlet off and the cam cover though aswell as the top timing chain cover. Every part has timing marks, the crank pulley, the intermediate shaft and the cams VANOS units and they have notches in the ends that a plate should fit into if properly timed, you don't need the proper metal plate though, just a 6mm plate cut to the right shape

full chain rattle sounds like shaking marbles in a jar, mine makes a smooth wssssshhhhhhh kind of noise but not a scraping sound
