rattle/ clanking noise from under car

hi guys
i have an a3 3.2 quattro (2005)
for about a week now i have had a clanking noise under the car when driving over bumps or potholes in the road. had a look under the car and nothing hanging down or been banging on the floor so couldnt figure out what it could be. the clanking gradually got louder the more i heard it and just today i realised it had stopped and no warning lights showing and car running normally. i wondered if any one had any ideas at what it could be and should i get it checked out or just leave it?

Check the plastic stone guards on rear axle on each side, they break & rattle when driving.

its like a metal banging noise would that be them?

doesnt seem to be the stone guards :/

I thought the same, mine were on and looked good. Taken them off and replace the push fixings. That's what I did, at the same time check your springs, have a feel around in the mounting cup for any broken bits

I had the same problem. Mechanic said it was the brake duct clip that broke ($18). Problem fixed.
