Finally gave in.... Revo stage 1 booked

I've been putting this off for ages because I'm scared it will ruin the car but I've booked it in for a Revo stage 1 on Thursday.

    Good idea?

What should I expect? How have other people got on with theirs? Is there any change in MPG?

It won't break the car....just enjoy it.

You may get slightly better MPG if you use the torque rather than all of the power, but either way,it'll be more fun.

Cheers Alex. So no need to worry about the clutch? Oil changes needed more regularly or anything? Or carry on as normal? but faster!

Got 20% off the remap so happy times!

I had a superchips remap on my previous golf GTTDI and the clutch, turbo and cam shaft all went at different times. Hence the put off...

At stage 1 im having issues with the clutch, as its a weak point, but some ppl have no issues at Stage 1. And yes if I was you id change the oil on a regular basis, as the TFSI engine does drink more. An Audi tech did admit this to me. But go for it, I'm glad I did and can truly recommend it

Most of the time, clutches are OK at Stg1,but not always.

Oil should be changed more regularly than Audi's long service schedule, and mine for instance gets the oil changed every 10 000 miles or so.

    Seriously,I'd do it again.

My clutch was fine at Stg1,and gave up at Stg2,which is pretty much what you'd expect.

If the clutch does pack in,a Sachs plus DMF will come in at around £1k....not cheap but way better than the original.

Thanks Alex that was going to be my next question. Its DSG. will that make a difference?
I want a miltek at some point too.
I know the tuner Dave, I also get 20% off at TPS so that may come in handy when/if I need a new clutch. People like me and give me money off stuff what can I say lol! I wonder if they'll do uprated stuff at TPS???? Hmmm

If its DSG no need to worry about the clutch, the twin plate clutches in those are very good and can handle stage 2+ power no problems. Just enjoy the extra torque! Its a surprising difference to stock.

    Ahhhhh....DSG.

That does make a big difference.....the DSG clutch pack is generally good for up to 400+lbs with software revisions,so you should be onto a winner there.

Bad news is if you do ever get a big turbo on the car,the clutch pack upgrade is expensive, but below that level, you should have no problems.

That's great!!! Love the DSG even more now. I think I'll stop at the miltek (I would like some more noise from it) and maybe an induction kit.... I cannot wait now! Getting a full set of Eagle F1s to help with getting that power down too

If you're doing that you may as well add a HPFP and go stage 2+, much easier for you with not having to worry about the clutch.

Alex, I have an annual service but am unlucky if I hit more than 6k p.a. Do I need more regular changes?

I got Shark Stage 1 and my DSG is mapped too. You will love yours too when you get it done!
Audi are currently 'filling' the S3 with Shell Helix Ultra AV-L 5w30. That is what I use.

    As above....!

Seriously though, the difference even between Stg3 and 2+ (i.e. first stage big turbo build) is huge.
The car is transformed again and the feeling of the car running out of puff is gone.

Had my S3 s-tronic remapped 3 days after I got it, back in the beginning of Feb

It's a substantial difference to the standard car, which felt pretty quick already I reckon.

The one thing I noticed was just how quick the speed piles on, combined with a relatively subtle exhaust. I wanted a little more noise (I got used to driving my S4 V8 from the revs which indicated speed etc) so just changed the catback exhaust on the car last week.
I debated going full exhaust etc and stage 2+, but the car is plenty quick enough for me and within 18-24 months it will be sold for a B8 S4 so didn't want hassle trying to sell a heavily modified car.
I can swap the non res milltek off the car easily come sale time and recoup some cash.

Non res catback was deffo the way to go, it's marginally louder than standard, but not at all intrusive.

    Enjoy the re map.

did the cat back make much of a difference with the noise. I think the S3 is a bit quiet as standard apart from the botty burps it does when changing gear with the DSG

Yes, it improves it noticeably, but in a good way.
I've got no drone at 2k rpm or at 70-80mph, the only time I know it is fitted is when I put my foot down.

I was very apprehensive about going non res, some said it droned a little, but I do wonder if the 3dr and sportback have different acoustics in the cabin.
Worst case scenario is that you can buy a resonated centre section from Milltek for £100 if you don't like for it any reason.
I went cheapest option first, with a view to adding it if needed.

Nothing worse than going resonated and then deciding it isn't noisy as you then have to buy the non resonated section which ends up costing you more money overall.

Be good to hear your thoughts once its fitted. Enjoy.

Yep, I added my remap and exhaust (despite not having them fitted at the time) when I substituted my S4 for the S3, so no increase in premium at all.
Insurers are much more remap friendly these days, Aviva covered mine without any issue.
The last time I had an S3 8L (8 years ago) I had to go through a specialist insurer as Aviva (Norich Union at that time) wouldn't touch maps back then.

Yeah I was a bit relieved to be honest. I had the same thing with my previous Golf and had to change to another company. I'm not having the Miltek until next week as they don't have the middle section so Remap today, Miltek next week.

Just got it back. Remap is awesome. Hard to describe but the power is just there and kinda just feels right... It should be like that as standard.

    Eagle F1s are also fantastic.

Apparently I need new discs and pads on the front though

Good to hear, driving after a remap (any decent one) will result in instant ear to ear grin.
The amount of long ways round trips I have done in my crappy auto Golf since it was mapped is an awful lot.

Great news, glad to hear you're enjoying it.

Eagle F1's, I love em. Had them for the past 8 years on my cars, and as soon as I've worn these Falkens (on the car when I bought it) down to 3mm, I'll be getting them on again.

Loving the remap. Got the Miltek non res put on today too and that sounds lurvely. Had the car scanned by VCDS whilst I was in and its showing a Haldex clutch pump intermittent fault on one occasion. Anything to worry about?

I quickly googled the terms you put in your post. Whilst the reply below is not S3 related, it is Haldex related

I'm hoping it was just from when the software was changed as I know when they're mapped it will throw up a load of faults. Just went out for a spin and tested the difference between 2wd and 4wd by putting the handbrake on one click then flooring it thus disengaging the haldex and there is a huuuge difference so I'm fairly happy the 4wd is working

I'm not 100% sure they actually remap the DSG software as part of the Revo Stage 1?
I thought, but could well be wrong, that the DSG remap was a separate piece of work and charged accordingly?

I'd not worry about it if it hasn't flagged the fault since it was reset.
