After having the CV boots replaced about 5 times (might be 6) by 4 different garages on my 78k A3, I have noticed the larger clamp on the outer cv nearside is missing. The inner boot was replaced in november on the same driveshaft.

I am considering venturing and doing it myself. After having done a bit of research, i am guessing that I will need a torque wrench, a cone to fit it, and cv boot.

Am I better off getting the boot from the dealer or are the ones on ebay of good quality?
Any recommendations and practical advice will be appreciated ?

Thanks in advance.

the "cone" you're referring to is for "universal/stretchy" type CV boots and are generally crap.

get a OEM one which will require you to remove the whole CV joint it self, not too bad of a job if you know what your doing.

Get a cv gaitor kit from main dealers aftermarket ones don't last and that may be you problem. You will also need some pliers to do the clips up tight.
