Lumpy idling

Hey guys, I have a 2.0 tdi 140bh and when it's idling it seems to be very lumpy and judders but then when I give it some revs it goes away. I had it serviced today and the fuel filter was filthy! So we cleaned the cylinder up so all the dirt/grime was gone and changed the filter and it's still the same. What could be causing this juddering? Any advise would be great! Thanks!

I done a bit of searching and some say injectors and some say engine mount or flywheel. But by looking at how dirty the fuel filter was today got me thinking it could be the injectors being full up with dirt or one of them might be down. So that's where i'm stuck.

If its flywheel its normally a ryhtmic steady judder.

Injectors can be ultrasonically cleaned and some people report improvements. Injectors are normally less of a rhythm than flywheel, mine judders for a secnond then nothing for a couple then judders again.

Yeah mine does that, it feels like one of the injectors isn't work properly or if at all. its fine up the revs, its just idle.

If it's fine throughout the range then the injectors are most likely still serviceable. They aren't an easy item to remove and re fit though.

Ideally you want them taking out and cleaning at a diesel specialist.

Redex and similar additives don't really make a noticeable difference , especially on PD engines.

If it is fitted with the hydro engine mounts and the fluid has leaked this could cause erratic idle had mine done on my a6 felt the difference after
a scan will pick it up

Mine does this. It led me to have my flywheel changed (that and poor starting and a metallic rattle) and imagine my disappointment when the car came back with new flywheel and new starter motor and it still vibrates.

Sometimes barely noticeable, other times a fair shudder (oddly I'm convinced its after a motorway stint and pointing uphill on an exit slip).

Would love to find a fix as it does my head in.

At least being a dsg if I leave it in "D" or "S" it's almost imperceptible.
