    Question s3 clutch

    Hi

i have a completely standard 2007 s3 and the clutch is on its way out so I'm nursing it until I have enough pennies to buy a new one.

    so what do I buy??

Do I keep a oem type one? Which everyone states is a bit poo and weak.

or do I go for a performance clutch spend a lot more but in the long run lasts longer etc I might do a remap later on. Not sure??

i have a quote from a local specialist £1500 job lot.
    this is for;
    - 6hr labour (quite a lot of work apparently ,subframe down, gearbox out, realignment etc)

    - Sachs performance clutch 400lb/ft kit inc single mass flywheel 02Q (this is £940)

    - clutch release bearing and slave cylinder - luk

    - 6 flywheel bolts 02M 6spd

    - 6 clutch cover bolts

So is this quote expensive? Or reasonable?
is this clutch a decent one? There's so many to choose from Im confused?

    thanks Sam

Could maybe be about right mate if you are paying a specialist to do it. At least then it should be done right. I must have the only standard clutch S3 in the country lol touch wood.

Absolutely no more than £1000 inc parts and labour.

I had mine done at VW main dealer for £800 when I had my 09 S3 manual.

My clutch is on its way out and I have been quoted £1240 fitted. £880 for a Sachs up rated clutch and SMF including everything that's required. £360 for a days labour at a specialist.

And me! Touch wood. Although apparently later S3s had a decent clutch plate in anyway?

£1000 is that for a performance Sachs clutch?

Would a 400lb/ft clutch take a remap comfortable?? That's the other thing I thought was a bit low?

    Thanks for the replys!

I think he's on about a standard clutch, flywheel and labour for less than 1k. The Sachs clutch and flywheel is almost 1k itself without labour!

On stage 1 you'll be expecting around 300/310lb Ft so it's good even for stage 2+

The Sachs is generally quite conservatively rated, and if run in properly, and treated with some respect(i.e.no drag starts etc),it can manage up to 440lbs,as that's where my Sachs eventually started to slip at.

If you don't bed it in over around 500 miles or so,or you enjoy drag style starts, then it will give up way before then.

The Loba/SMF clutch will cope with more abuse, but after that, you're looking at systems which can be a bit beyond what you're after both performance wise, and cost wise.

The Loba item is the Sachs though minus a different flywheel that is apparently more quiet. I'm torn between the Loba+Sachs or just the Sachs.

I don't think I will be doing many drags starts to be honest. Haha.
What's involved in the bedding in process ? Keep off boost!
What clutch are you using alex in your stage 4 monster ?
I was told the smf was nearly unnoticeable to the dmf and lighter so revs slightly easier.
