Iv given up. I found it a proper hassle to take the v band clamp off and the frustration just got to me. I really just feel like doing it from the top now

I know what you mean, I had to have a couple of cracks at it.

At least now you know where it is, and have a good idea of what you're trying to get to. Shame your not closer, might have been able to lend a hand!

Next step will be to have access to the egr cooler so I can take the two bolts from the pipe off

Have researched two other methods. One not as effective but super easy to do and zero in cost : Decarbonize with water mist. And the other roughly £50 more effective than Decarbonize but like mixed reviews, compared to the infamous Mr muscle, called revive turbo cleaner

I've read about revive. The product makes some bold claims about being developed for gas turbines and cleaning super high precision parts etc.

The only nagging feeling I had was how the product could survive the combustion chamber of an engine, and still go through the exhaust intact enough to make a difference. If it isn't being combusted in the engine, then you are spraying a non compressible liquid into it which could cause hydrolock?

Then again, surely the product wouldn't be selling if it was knackering engines everywhere....

Yeah that is what I thought with regards to the combustion but hydrolock will only happen if you dump sh*tloads of water all in one go link a pint where as for this product you do 2 intervals of water mist.

Just spoke with those who work with revive turbo cleaner and they said providing 250ml is sprayed into the pipe and the rpm is at 2500 (still following the full instructions) then there is no risk of it going into hydrolock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAJS...e_gdata_player

I'm in the process of doing this, from below, via the disconnected exhaust method, all going to plan so far, just about to go back out and spray for the first time. Glad I came back to this thread, as hand't seen the idea of the pringles lid! Nice one. Be back in a few hours once complete and on the road again... Wish me luck...

I've managed to attach some strong garden string to the actuator rod for the vanes, and so now can just go out and give that a few strong yanks to move the actuator. Just hope it all goes back together as its meant to...

All went to plan but went into overboost within about 10 mins of going out, then did it more on that journey than even before. Think its foook£d.

Its been whining for good while now, and overboosting more and more often, hence attempting the Mr Muscle today.

Going to have it scanned tomorrow as my brother has Vag-Com whatsit, so will report back on the readings.

This car is a nightmare, I have had it two months and its cost me £800 so far - I HATE it! : (

Once i'd totally removed the little clamp, it just sort of popped off. I had also undone the bolt on the bottom of the sort of twisted cat support from where it's bolted to the sump, that might help?

Did you Google v band clamp? Should give you an idea of how the clamp works.

David, mine went into overboost after the Mr muscle treatment, and what I had to do was drive it at high revs but light throttle, to get the exhaust gasses hot but not trigger the overboost code, did the trick for me, might help you? I think it's because all the crap is still in there but dislodged, so now needs burning out.

Yh smithy I did google it before hand but it just felt so tonight on the turbo even spraying wd40 around the edges ( with the allen bolt off of course I still couldn't manage) I think good brute force is needed next time

    Yeah mine took some persuading.

Just remember the clamp opens outwards, sort of like a jubilee clip.

A claw hammer under the end of the clamp where the bolt goes can help lever it open.

    Would you have any suggestions?

Hi guys I want to attempt this, this weekend is the egr cooler pipe not very easy to remove? Which method would you say was easier to remove the egr cooler pipe or the cat? Many thanks Mark
