Re: 2.0 TDI DSG ECU Tuning???

LOL...I'm not even going to attempt to explain but mine behaves the same way, if I let it rev out and click at the same time the ECU changes for me! The click on the wheel is ignored!

J Sportback,my DSG behaves exactly like yours,so rest assured you're not going mad.

If you pull the paddle at roughly the same time as the auto-change up,it will go up two gears.

I can't see our cars having different software from everyone elses,so we must just be timing our gearchanges differently.

    It'll be our fault...

bowfer, we must get together for a back to back test sometime. I'm curious as to whether they're are changes between the present and pre-facelift models.

Re: 2.0 TDI DSG ECU Tuning???

Hmm thanks guys, looks like I'll have to take it up with Audi, maybe there's a software fix?

  7. #46

Re: 2.0 TDI DSG ECU Tuning???

A fix is only a fix when it fixes software that is in some way faulty. The software on the DSG is not faulty. It works exactly how it was designed and how the vast majority of users want and expect.

What you are asking for is a software modification to makes it behave in a manner different to it's design. I think that would have to be from a tuning house rather than Audi and I very much doubt if any tuning house would want to mess around with the DSG control software. From what I have read it's a lot more complicated than the engine ECU software.

Having said that, there is no harm in asking.

mine revs to within 100rpm of the red line, and then changes up, though i tried this click the paddle when its going to change itself numerous different ways and it doesnt go up two for me - so there is be a difference somewhere here!!!

That's exactly where mine changes up too, however, I tried to "beat" the gear box, or let it beat my, one of the other! What I found is it doesn't do it all of the time, only sometimes.

Whatever it does it's still infuriating, but I'm hoping that I wont want to rev so hard when I get the Revo, and this will go to some point in erradicating the problem,

Other than that, I'm happy I chose the DSG, as 90% of the time, it's a joy to drive.

On a different note, isn't the traction control one of the best on the market? It really is far better than any other system that I've tried, very unobtrusive and allows you to exploit a pretty good chassis! I reminded myself of this today as the roads were pretty dry for a change, and I was in full on sports mode when testing the DSG out!

What sort of performance are we talking once chipped though? as in faster than a Golf GTi and a lot of the other hot hatches about (Clio 172 etc)?

  16. #55

Re: 2.0 TDI DSG ECU Tuning???

Bowfer - Your more than welcome to a copy of the DSG software from my A3 although mine is a different model to yours. Perhaps that would stop your constant moaning about your DSG, though I very much doubt it. It was obviously designed with my way of driving in mind and was not designed to suit your way and it's about time you accepted the fact and changed your car for something that you do like. I know, company car and all that - stuck with it etc. Then accept that you made a serious mistake by not trying it before deciding to have one and rather than keep moaning about it, try spending some time learning how to drive with it rather than against it. You might even enjoy it in the same way as I do.

By the way - what happened to you sense of humour or do you not have such things in Scotland.

David, firstly this thread was raised by a poster experiencing exactly the sort of problems I've noticed with DSG and I've merely agreed with him and shared info.

If you take that as "constant moaning about DSG",then (quite frankly) tough ,it's a public forum, not an Audi love-in or a private pub chat.

It makes a change to see someone else experiencing the same problems as me,as it proves there are problems with it that can't always be solved by your preferred option of "changing the way you drive".

Should we all change the way we steer, just because Audi can't build power steering that works properly ?

You're willing to forgive the gearbox it's foibles,we're not, simple as that.

With regard to the sense of humour thing,I think,on plenty of occasions,I have displayed I do have one on here.

Perhaps if you posted something funny....?

  22. #61

Re: 2.0 TDI DSG ECU Tuning???

I thought the items about the software were funny, but each to his own. Your reply was pure sarcasm about my 'perfect A3'.

As I said many times before, if you don't like the DSG - change you car for one that does not have it fitted. Audi are not going to change it as it does what it was designed to do.

But when you do change cars, please make sure you test drive it first. If you had test driven any car fitted with a DSG you would have known about all it's 'foibles' BEFORE you decided to have one rather than finding out afterwards.

You could have then made an informed decision about whether it suited your style of driving. Your the one that is unhappy with it not me. I love it just the way it is and enjoy using it every time I drive my car.

    David!

We seem to have a board sport of 'Bowfer baiting' in which Bowfer (bless him) rises to the challenge almost every time.....to the amusement of many of us. And yet most respectfully I enjoy many of Bowfer's contributions however none PC they might be....

And now as moderator you are joining the fray as a baitable target.

I always thought a 'mod' nailed threads (like this one) and individuals (like you and myself now) that wander too far away from the subject.....

Perhaps this thread has run it's course?

  24. #63

Re: 2.0 TDI DSG ECU Tuning???

I tend to agree with you cosmicblue. I think enough is enough. If I have upset poor liitle bowfer then I'm sorry. That was never my intention. He just seems unable to accept that some of us think there is absolutely nothing wrong the DSG gearbox and love it just the way it is.

By the way I am not a moderator. There is another member with the usersname of DavidR but that is not me.

I have just posted a post in the 'door handle' thread about quality. I think I'll repost that as a new thread just so that other members can see where I am coming from.

Re: 2.0 TDI DSG ECU Tuning???

Just to add that my 1/9/04 `05MY 3dr Sport DSG exhibits the "GEAR=GEAR+1 WHERE DAY or TIME=`random'", progamming!, mainly when accelerating hard, & completely at random (or at least not coinciding with any condition I can attribute to it) if I paddle-shift almost at the same time as the `box conducts a shift, I get jumped up 2 gears not one.

Also, if I plant my foot on the gas hard am increasingly seeing the box drop 2 gears (or it could even be 3? - my DIS just shows gear number when in "stick-over-to-left" position) which simply means I get about 1 or 2 seconds of the engine near/in redline before it upshifts one cog to protect itself from meltdown - why bother! I'd rather it drop 1 cog and hold on to that for longer.

However, my BIGGEST irritation tends to be on very large roundabouts==>dual carriageways where you've rounded the "final curve" and begin to accelerate back up along the straight ( gently, and in "D" mode) and the bl00dy thing has changed up midway round the corner so the acceleration is stunted and the engine groans more audibly in complaint...

  26. #65

Re: 2.0 TDI DSG ECU Tuning???

David67 - have you tried using Sport or Tip-Tronic mode in the 'very large roundabouts' ?

I tend to drive in Tip-tronic mode 90% of the time and never have a problem with acceleration. The only time it will upshift is when it hits the red-line.

Also, try paddle shifting at around 3500-4000rpm and the box will only shift once. There is little point in leaving it much latter as the engine has already reached maximum power. It is a diesel after all.
